  Diary

  1927

January February March April May June
July August September October November December

In 1927 mother Handy entered the Herkimer Hospital on March 23 and had an operation on April 27. On May 13, she went to Margaret’s to stay a while. Keith and Wilma Mosher were baptized in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Crum Creek by Rev. Luther of Herkimer on June 12. Dr. Byron Fake, our regular pastor was not well enough to be there. He died in July. It was a busy year for Herbert. He, with the help of the hired man, built the silo. He and Dan Cromer had drawn the logs to St. Johnsville to have sawed into lumber for the silo in January. He bought a saw and engine that year. He also bought our first tractor (a Fordson) for $400 at an auction. He also rented a threshing machine from Judson Youker. He sawed wood and did a lot of threshing for other farmers. On Oct. 12, the men put the corn from our farm into the new silo. In Nov. Herbert, Floyd Groff and Floyd Weaver went hunting. Herbert shot a deer. Floyd O. Weaver and Alta Izetta Davis were married on Nov. 26, 1927 at the home of her parents in Vernon. Herbert, Mrs. John Cairns (Alta had boarded at her home for a while, when she taught school in Youkers Bush), and I went with my folks to the wedding. It was a very beautiful day. Mother Handy and Harold decided to go to live in a house next to Margaret and Clarence Beekman’s house. They started to move some of their furniture over in November and December. Mother Groff was very ill in Dec. She nearly had pneumonia. Dr. Feldstein brought up a nurse on Dec. 21 to take care of her. The nurse stayed until Dec. 27.
