Wednesday, January 1, 1969

We spent the day with Alta & Floyd at Louise Weaver’s in St. J. We then called at the Swartz Funeral Home, where Mrs. Bureche was. It was a cold day & the roads were very icy.

Thursday, January 2, 1969

We did a large washing & I did part of the ironing. Herbert took the Christmas tree down.

Friday, January 3, 1969

Madeliene was here. Herbert & I put away all of the Christmas decorations – I cleaned the piano and back of it. Wayne helped Herbert move it out.

Saturday, January 4, 1969

I spent the afternoon writing letters. Keith Herbert called in the forenoon. Letter from Alma. Keith R. and Wayne did not feel well. A nice sunshiny day.

Sunday, January 5, 1969

We went to church. After church Keith & Janice, M. & Dean took Ann & another girl to Morrisville. Keith H. took Juanita Jones home to Edmeston. Roads very icy. Pastor Johnson went crossways on the road. From the Thruway two different groups of men came to phone & to borrow a jack.

Monday, January 6, 1969

I wrote Mabel Newman. Herbert went to the bank; he washed milking utensils & helped fix a bucket. My bunion didn’t hurt quite so much.

Tuesday, January 7, 1969

L. C. W. meeting at Marion Groffs. Herbert took me there and then to see Dr. Feldstein. My bunion was infected and I was in misery.

Wednesday, January 8, 1969

I couldn’t get a shoe on. I put on a woolen stocking to get around the house. No school! Roads were bad because of drfitng snow. I wrote letters & started some tatting.

Herbert, Janice & Keith attended Pomona grange meeting at Johnstown. I wrote to Marion & Veba. I started some tatting.

Friday, January 10, 1969

Herbert went to Soc. Sec. Office in Gloversville. He called on Genie Christman and brought the walker home. Madeliene Taylor was here.

Saturday, January 11, 1969

Ann and Mary Farmer came in for a little while. Keith H. brought them & Juanita Jones home for the weekend. Hazel Trumbull phoned and told us Bertha Smith had fallen & broken her hip.

Sunday, January 12, 1969

I wrote a note to Bertha Smith at L. Falls Hospital. Keith & Juanita came in for a little while. Herbert went to church. Don & Lilah came in the evening on snowmobiles.

Herbert went to Dr. Feldsteins to get form filled out for S. Security. He called Robert Brown to ask about Hazel. She is some better.

A nice, sunshiny day. I wrote to Leland & Iva Bellinger. Herbert went to Fort Plain. Mildred Gillen phoned and said uncle Milo Smith was ill.

I called Ada Gray on the telephone. I wrote to Emma Timmerman, Gordon Fasani & uncle Milo. A nice sunshiny day. Had a letter from Alma.

Herbert & I did the laundry. I did part of the ironing. I had a letter from Marion & Veba, with a letter enclosed, written by my sister-in-law, Edith to my sister Lucinda in 1914.

Friday, January 17, 1969

Madeliene was here. Keith went to Syracuse and brought Ann & Mary Farmer home from Morrisville for the weekend. A letter from Genie Christman.

Saturday, January 18, 1969

It rained almost all day long. I talked with Hazel T, Alta and Marion Groff. Marion hasn’t felt well for several days. She is dizzy. Keith H. came home for the intersession between semesters.

We went to C. Creek to church. It was communion. Quite a mild day and ice melted some. Ann came in before Janice & Keith took her & Mary back to Morrisville.

Monday, January 20, 1969

Richard Nixon was inaugurated as president. We watched on the TV. I wrote to Ruth Burritt. It was a nice sunshiny day.

Tuesday, January 21, 1969

Beautiful sunny day. I wrote a letter to Ann. Edmund Creedon came in & visited. I went to the hair dresser. In the afternoon I called on Ethel Haig, while Herbert went to the auction.

Wednesday, January 22, 1969

Margaret & Charles were here in the afternoon. I started working on the income tax. Martha Hillegas, Florence Cronkhite & Ruth Failing called on the telephone. A nice sunny day.

I worked on income tax for a while. Herbert went after groceries. He called at Lester Moshers, and Herbert Davis. I sewed a little on the quilt, which I had started several yrs. ago.

Madeliene was here. We attended the annual church meeting & covered-dish supper at Lester Moshers. Hilda went with us.

Saturday, January 25, 1969

Herbert and I went to Utica in the afternoon to see Flo Chase. She was glad to see us and uses her walker. A beautiful day. We stopped at the Dandee Doughnut place for our supper in Little Falls.

Sunday, January 26, 1969

Special “Youth” Service at church. It was very inspirational. We took Hilda home & then we went to Dolgeville. Margaret, Charles, Herbert & I ate at the Valmer Restaurant. We talked with George Berberich.

I did some ironing for Janice. I wrote a letter to Joanne. Sunny day, but cold.

Tuesday, January 28, 1969

Hilda & Emmett invited us up for the afternoon and supper. We played 5 games of Pinochle & had a very good time. Wayne passed Elem. Alg. Regents.

Wednesday, January 29, 1969

Keith R. & Janice & Dean went after Ann. I worked on my quilt. We received letters from aunt Genevieve and Iva & Philip Wendell.

Thursday, January 30, 1969

I cleaned some of the kitchen cupboards and worked on my quilt. Ethel Haig and Irene Dillenback called on the phone.

Friday, January 31, 1969

Quite a nice day. Irene Klock called on the telephone. Grange meeting was here. Herbert went to F. Plain after groceries & to the bank to pay taxes. Janice took Ann & Karen to Utica Thruway Exchange to meet Paul to go to Deaf Camp Retreat.

Herbert got up early to take the boys to C. Creek to milk. He waited & brought them back. We did the washing.

We went to church. Bessie Gottung was here in the evening. Hilda went to church with us. Beth Bowers visited with me after church.

Monday, February 3, 1969

I finished the ironing. I wrote up the grange notices for the newspapers. It was a snowy day. Jean Nellis asked me to go to the S. class luncheon on the 8th.

We did not have L. C. W. meeting as it was a very stormy day, with blowing snow. Keith Herbert went back to college after intercession. Ruth Failing and Dottie Crouse phoned.

Wednesday, February 5, 1969

Janice came up and we worked a little while on income tax. We had letters from Mabel Newman and Iva & Leland Bellinger. Bad weather again.

It was a nice day. Herbert went to the auction at East Creek. We had letters from R. Burritt, Gordon Fasani and Gertrude Lance.

Jean Nellis took me to the Study Class Luncheon meeting at Elm Tree Hall. It was the first I had been there in over 1½ years. We received a letter from aunt Genevieve saying her brother Roy’s funeral was Feb. 6. He was 88 yrs. old.

Sunday, February 9, 1969 Snowed.

We went to Crum Creek to church. Keith & Janice, Marta & Dean took Ann & Mary Farmer back to Morrisville. Keith H. went back to Cobleskill. Harland Smith came after the walker as his mother came home from hospital.

I worked on income tax all afternoon. No school. Roads blocked. Leo Crouse & another man got stuck in snowbank between Klemmes & Taylors.

Tuesday, February 11, 1969

I finished the federal income tax. Herbert & I went to Gloversville to the Int. Rev. Office and S. Security Office. Keith went to Ithaca to Grange Exec. Comm. Meeting.

We went to Fort Plain to buy Valentines and then we went to the grocery store.

I made a batch of cookies. Then I made a Valentine for Keiths family.

Friday, February 14, 1969

Keith’s family sent us up a box of Valentine cookies. We had a letter from Gordon Fasani. Herbert went to the doctor’s for a shot of penecillin.

Saturday, February 15, 1969

A cold, sunshiny day. Herbert went to St. J. to have oil changed in the car. My eye bothered a lot and I didn’t feel very well. Keith H. spent weekend at Morrisville.

Janice & Marta rode to church with us. Keith R. went up to see Gordon F. A nice day, but cold. Evelyn Casler called for the Heart Fund.

We did the washing. In the afternoon we went down to school to see Fenton Diefendorf about making out paper for Herbert’s major medical insurance. Then we called on Alma Miller.

I did the ironing. Herbert took me to DAR meeting and he went to visit with Carl Nellis.

Margaret & Charles came in the afternoon and stayed for supper. Keith Herbert came to talk business. We went to Ash Wed. service. Uncle Milo Smith died.

My 70th birthday. I received many cards. Ruth, Bertha and Hazel called on the telephone. Alma called in the evening.

Friday, February 21, 1969

I went for a hair appointment. Then we went to Hazel Trumbulls for dinner. She had invited us, as she had not been up on my birthday. Then we called on Ursula Johnson.

All of Keith’s family, Beth Safford, Miguel Rubiano, & Juanita Jones came up with cake & ice cream to celebrate my birthday. Mildred & Wm. Thresher also came.

We attended C. Creek church. Then we called on Albert & Bertha Smith. Bertha had been home from the hospital a little over a week. She used a walker.

I washed the new dishes & put them in the cupboard. I cleaned some of the kitchen drawers. I worked on my grange program.

I wrote to Joanne & Alice Carlson. Herbert called on Vernon Casler.

I made some cookies. I cut out & pieced blocks for my quilt. Karen ran a nail in her foot.

We had grange meeting here. 15 present. I had a letter from Gertrude Lance, in which she said Gertrude Selter had died.

Herbert & I went up in forenoon and cleaned the church. We stopped to see Zylphia Thomson. I walked from this side of Taylors. The road was bare. Ethel Haig & Margarel Handy called on the telephone.

We attended C. Creek church. Then we called on Clarence & Ada Gray. We attended union service at St. J. Methodist church.

Monday, March 3, 1969

A nice day here, but it snowed in some parts of the state. We did the washing. Frederick Dean stopped in and visited in the P. M.

Tuesday, March 4, 1969

I finished the ironing. We went to the bank and then to Gray’s Funeral Home. Mrs. Lillian Fox had died. We went up to see Margaret & Charles & stayed for supper.

A cold sunny day. We went to see Louise Hayes to try to get some information for G. Lance. Keith & Don Short went to a meeting at Delmar. Karen & Miguel attended a 4-H meeting at Fonda.

Thursday, March 6, 1969

Ethel, Ruth, Florence Bailey & I were invited to Alma Miller’s for a delicious dinner to celebrate Ruth’s, Herbert’s and my birthday.

Friday, March 7, 1969

We attended the World Day of Prayer Service at the Methodist Church. Madeliene Taylor and Yvette went with us. The priest said the Catholics could attend.

Saturday, March 8, 1969

Jean Nellis took me to the Study class meeting at Lore Koppel’s. In the evening Keith & Janice invited us down for Herbert’s 65th birthday. Janice & Don Shuster were there also.

We attended church at C. Creek. Rev. & Mrs. Butterer were there. We went to the Union Lenten Service at St. J. Lutheran Church. It was a hymn sing and a very inspiring service.

Monday, March 10, 1969

Herbert went to the bank at F. Plain and got some groceries. I worked quite a lot on my quilt. We had a nice long letter from Jane Schaetzel.

We did the washing. I worked some on out state income tax blanks. Herbert had to make many trips taking the men up to Crum Creek. Keith was gone to a meeting in Albany.

I finished making out income state tax and did the ironing. Janice took Miguel to Schenectady to see a dentist.

Herbert went to Gloversville about his S. Security. Then he & Keith had to go again in the P. M.

I attended the Community Club meeting. I was on the committee. Mrs. Bibobroka read a term paper, written by her daughter, on the life story of the Beardsley family.

Herbert went to auction at East Creek. Karen bought a heifer. Mrs. Tompson & granddaughter called in the P. M. I worked some on my quilt.

We attended church at Crum Creek. Then we called on Emma Timmerman. We ate supper at Pete’s Restaurant. Then we attended Union Lenten Service at Reformed church in St. J.

Monday, March 17, 1969

Herbert went to Ft. Plain to the bank, bought groceries, etc. I made a cake for Harold Putnam’s birthday. Herbert took me to the library.

I attended D. A. R. meeting. Beulah Sanders went with us. I put on the lineage program. Mrs. J. Tompson meant to be there, but was not feeling well. She wrote the paper, which I read.

We were invited for supper and the evening at Lina & Fred Thodes. Freida was home. We had a nice time.

I went to get a “permanent” in the forenoon. I talked with Alma on the telephone. Floyd Weaver was taken with a poor spell and they took him to the hospital.

Madeliene was here. I made cookies and Herbert took some up to Rev. Hotchkiss. He also called on Bill & Margaret Holl.

We went up to C. Creek in the forenoon to clean the church.

We attended church at C. Creek and the Union Lenten Service at the Congregational Church.

Monday, March 24, 1969

We did the washing. Herbert hung a lot of the clothes outdoors and they dried very well. Dean was hurt on his face and had to have eight stitches put in. Marta was here for a while.

I finished the ironing and worked on the grange program.

Wednesday, March 26, 1969

We took Janice & Dean to see Dr. Muller. The doctor took part of the stitches out of Dean’s face. We called on Floyd Weaver at the hospital. Margaret Mosher had gone home from the hospital that morning. Dad & I attended Lenten service at Starkville.

I wrote some letters & cards. I rode up to C. Creek, when Herbert took Miguel up.

The grange meeting was held here. Keith H, Ann & Juanita came home for the weekend. Former Pres. D. D. Eisenhower passed away. (78 yrs old).

We cleaned up the church. We went up to the drug store in the P. M. to buy gifts for M. Mosher and Floyd Weaver.

Sunday, March 30, 1969

We went to C. Creek to church. Then we called on Margaret Mosher. After that we stopped to see Vernon and Earl Casler. Ann & Juanita came in to say goodbye.

I wrote up the grange account for the papers. I washed & ironed the altar cloth from C. Creek church. Cold & windy. No mail on account of D. D. Eisenhower’s funeral service in Wash.

I went with Eva Williams & Lina Nellis to the DAR Round Table at the Towpath Inn in Ilion. Herbert called on Genie Christman and on Lloyd & Kate Smith.

Easter Sunday. We attended C. Creek church, over 60 present. Keith H. gave Juanita her engagement ring. Ann gave us an Easter lily. They came up in the evening and we had a nice visit.

We ate lunch & then went over to see Iva & Philip Wendell. They were not at home when we got there. They had been to the doctors & to see Philips sister. They came after an hr. and we had a good visit.

In the forenoon I got things ready for rummage sale. After lunch we went to see Mae & Judd Chase & their family. A nice day.

The men finishing picking the corn on the hill. I made cookies. Ira & Edith Timmerman called in the afternoon.

I helped at rummage sale in A. M. Edith Claus went with Herbert and me to Pomona Grange at Sacandaga.

I went to Community Club meeting. Herbert went up to see Margaret & Charles.

Madeliene was here. Herbert, Ann & Marta cleaned the church. Nice sunny day. Keith Herbert plowed. I sprained my leg when I tried to clean the bottom of the kitchen cabinet.

We did the washing in the forenoon. In the afternoon we went to help clean the grange hall. Ethel Reese, Laura Claus & Alberta Koch were there.

I did the ironing. In the evening Herbert took me to the DAR meeting. He called on Melvin Timmerman and also went to inquire about Dick Mueller.

I wrote to Joanne. Herbert put in some window lights in the barn. I cleaned the desk in my bedroom.

Thursday, April 17, 1969

Joanne went to the Bethpage Hospital. I made cookies. We went to F. Plain after groceries in the afternoon. We bought new shades for the dining room.

Friday, April 18, 1969

Keith R. & Karen came in a little while. Rev. & Mrs. Clifford Butterer came about 5 P. M. After supper we played croakanole for a while. Then we visited until late.

Saturday, April 19, 1969

Clifford & Zelia called on Viola B. and the Klemmes in the forenoon. Late in the afternoon we went to Dolgeville to the Lyons Violet store & then we went to the Valmar Hotel for supper. We played Pinonche & Yahtzee.

Sunday, April 20, 1969

Keith, Juanita & Wayne stopped in to see the Butterers. We visited in the forenoon. We ate dinner at 11:30 to get through in time for church. The Butterers left after service at the C. Creek church.

Monday, April 21, 1969

We took off the paper on the side walls in the front east bedroom. Herbert called up Beulah Sanders to inquire about Margaret, who was in the hospital for a foot operation.

Tuesday, April 22, 1969

I called Gordon Tues. night. It rained in the night and all day. Herbert took paper off of the ceiling. Alma Miller was here for supper. Cecil Haney came to see about taking part in a grange program.

Wednesday, April 23, 1969

Herbert finished taking off ceiling paper. I helped clean up the paper. It rained some. I wrote to Joanne & Dottie Crouse.

Thursday, April 24, 1969

Herbert & I painted in the bedroom. He painted much more than I did, but I got all the meals. Received card from Mildred & Will Thresher.

Friday, April 25, 1969

We attended neighbor night meeting at C. Creek grange hall. About 60 were present. Perthshire and Kolaneka put on a very good program. We had a good time.

Saturday, April 26, 1969

It was Janice’s birthday. In the evening she, Keith and Ann attended an anniversary grange meeting in Cortland Co. Hazel Trumbull, Herbert & I went to the frittersupper at St. J. Lutheran Sunday School rooms. Hazel stayed and visited with us for a while. It was a nice sunny day.

Special Events

On Fri. after school Yvette Taylor brought me a bouquet of “Adder Tongue” wild flowers. It was very sweet of her.

We went to C. Creek to church. In the evening we went to St. J. Lutheran church to a combined meeting of L. C. W. and Luther League. Joanne called on the phone. She had come home from the hospital on Sat.

I did the ironing and wrote grange notices for the papers. Keith H. came home in the P. M. and plowed.

Tuesday, April 29, 1969

We finished painting the bedroom. Herbert mowed on the lawns and spaded around the peonies. We were so tired that we couldn’t get to sleep until 3 o’clock.

Wednesday, April 30, 1969

Charles & Margaret came down in the evening. She had been to see the doctor and is going to the hospital for a minor operation.

We went to St. J. to do dry-cleaning of winter clothes. Herbert & I went to Fort Plain and bought wedding gift for Bonnie Bowers. We went to visit Mildred & Wm. Thresher in the evening & had a very good time.

Friday, May 2, 1969

I had appointment with the hairdresser. Herbert called on Richard Mueller. Madeliene cleaned the front porch.

Saturday, May 3, 1969

We attended the wedding of Bonnie Bowers and Wayne Stowell at the C. Creek church at 12 o’clock. Then we went to their reception at Klock’s Park. We had a letter from Gladys and Lynn Sickler.

Sunday, May 4, 1969

We attended C. Creek church. We then went to call on Flo Chase at Utica. We ate supper at Howard Johnsons. Jennie, Lynne & Florence Cronkhite came down in evening.

Monday, May 5, 1969

Herbert went to the bank & I went to see Janice. Marjorie Lee & Lottie Handy called in the afternoon. I made cookies. Yvette brought me some flowers.

Tuesday, May 6, 1969

We called oat Gray’s Funeral Home. Earl Cranker was dead. Then we went to LCW meeting at Alta Weavers.

Wednesday, May 7, 1969

We did the washing & I did the ironing. Herbert worked in the field for a while. Then he sized the bedroom when Wm. T. called & said he would be here the next day.

Wm. Thresher papered the front east bedroom. Janice, Herbert, Keith & I attended the neighbor night grange meeting at Kolaneka, Johnstown.

Friday, May 9, 1969

Madeliene was here in the forenoon. I went to DAR prayer service for Edith Biermon Shults at Lull’s Funeral Parlor. We attended C. Creek grange meeting.

Saturday, May 10, 1969

I wrote to Marion & Veba. I washed some of the dishes from the dining room. Herbert plowed at C. Creek. I baked cake & muffins. Keith R. & G. Fasani cut down a tree in the cemetery (Fair View).

Karen won 1st place in cow judging contest held in Rensallear Co. 8 counties participated.

We went to C. Creek to church. We stopped on the way back & visited with Beulah & Margaret Sanders. Janice & Keith gave us double petunias & Dean gave us a begonia. Mary Failing & her sister Helen Mack Revelle call. Helen used to teach in F. Plain. She lives in Reno, Nevada.

We had a wonderful letter from Joanne & one from the Maloys. Herbert plowed at C. Creek. I wrote up notices for the papers. I washed more dishes from the dining room.

Keith went to Grange Exec. Comm. Meeting at Ithaca for 2 days. Herbert plowed at C. Creek all day.

Wednesday, May 14, 1969

Brooksby Gray came to look over the bedroom to see about the flooring. Herbert plowed at C. Creek in the P. M.

Thursday, May 15, 1969

Herbert & I went to F. Plain & picked out linoleum for the bedroom. Edward Hoffman is home on vacation & came & visited with me in the car. Herbert rotavated the lot across the road & Keith Herbert came home in the P. M. to start putting in the corn.

Friday, May 16, 1969

A beautiful warm day. Herbert & I did the washing. He planted his sweet onion sets. He 7 Madeliene washed the windows in my bedroom. We drove up & called on Harold & Dorothy in the evening.

Saturday, May 17, 1969

I did the ironing and baked cookies in the forenoon. Herbert set out his gladiola bulbs & rotavated for a while at C. Creek, until it rained. I walked down to Keith’s. I rode back with Linda Taylor. Yvette came with some flowers. She & I played Dominoes and had a good time.

Sunday, May 18, 1969

Keith & Juanita stopped in for a little while. Her brother had to return to duty in the Marines. Ann & Tom called in the forenoon. We went to C. Creek to church & then went to the grange hall for reception for Fred & Lina Thode. They are going to Liberia as missionaries. We called on Mr. & Mrs. Cecil Handy.

We attended the 28th Annual Banquet of the F. F. A. at the Masonic Temple in F. Plain. About 300 were there. It was a very nice affair.

Memorial Day. Herbert plowed all day at C. Creek. I made sugar cookies for the grange contest. We had a nice grange meeting. I came out 2nd in cookie contest.

It was a nice warm day. Herbert planted the petunia plants & tomato plants. He worked up at C. Creek in the P. M. Madeliene worked here in the afternoon.

Don & Lilah Klemme called in the evening. The men filled silo at C. Creek. It was a beautiful day & I walked up the road to the line fence.

Tuesday, October 7, 1969

The men drew hay in the P. M. Herbert took Hilda & me to the L. C. W. meeting at Alta Weavers in the evening. It rained.

Wednesday, October 8, 1969

It was a nice sunshiny day. We washed & I did part of the ironings. Keith H. & Herbert filled silo. I talked on the phone with Marion Marie Alter, Edith Claus, Alma & Irene Klock.

Thursday, October 9, 1969

A nice day. The men drew hay & put some corn in the silo. I ironed and canned some tomato juice. I had a letter from Alice Carlson.

We attended grange meeting. The men drew in hay. Emmett Mosher came home from the hospital.

Saturday, October 11, 1969

I made cookies. The folks put in 1000 bales of hay. Ann, Tom Jones & Tom Zedick were down at Keith’s for the week-end.

Sunday, October 12, 1969

We attended C. Creek church. We ate supper at Pete’s Restaurant & then went to call on Charles & Margaret. We visited with John Macon in the restaurant. This is his 5th year as a math teacher in the F. Plain High School.

Monday, October 13, 1969

It was a nice day. The men drew in 1170 bales of hay. Juanita had a cold & didn’t go to work.

Tuesday, October 14, 1969

It rained in the morning. We went over to Grace Drakes. We stopped & ate at Brooks Restaurant. Herbert went to talk with Sinclair Ward. We stopped at Grays funeral parlor. Luke Davin died Sunday.

Wednesday, October 15, 1969

Another nice day. Dean stayed with me for a couple of hours. We had a good time. I made an apple pie. The men drew hay. Keith R. came back from Grange Exex. Comm. Meeting.

Alma Miller & Ethel Haig were here in the P. M. and stayed for supper.

Friday, October 17, 1969

Mildred & Wm. Thresher came in the evening. We had a good visit and played 2 games of Pinochle.

Saturday, October 18, 1969

The men drew 4 loads of hay. Janice & Keith took Karen in the evening to Morrisville so she could attend a dance with Tom Jones.

Monday, October 20, 1969

Dr. Stone called on the telephone to see if I was coming to the hospital on Thurs. We did the washing & canned 6½ qts of applesauce.

Tuesday, October 21, 1969

I attended DAR meeting in the evening. Beulah Sanders rode home with us. I finished the ironing. Herbert plowed at C. Creek.

Wednesday, October 22, 1969

It was quite cold. Snowed in Gloversville & Lassellsville. I did a lot of assorted jobs to get ready to go to Cooperstown the next day.

Thursday, October 23, 1969

It snowed some places. Snow all around us. I went to the Cooperstown hospital. Herbert stayed with me until I had eaten supper. Our refridgerator wouldn’t run at home.

Friday, October 24, 1969

Had bunion removed this morning. Herbert was over in the afternoon. Got the pump working. Refridgerator has gone bad.

The doctor said I should sit in a chair & then about noon he had me walk. He told me I can go home tomorrow. Herbert was here to see me. Sunshiny day.

Herbert brought me home from the hospital. He went to C. Creek church and I visited while he was gone. We both rested well at night.

Letter from R. Burritt, M. Taylor, Keith H. and Marion Groff called. Herbert went after stamps & groceries.

Tuesday, October 28, 1969

A nice day. The men put 4 loads of corn in the silo on the Snell farm. George Paris died. Herbert helped the men in the afternoon. M. Bradley called & brought cookies & bedroom slippers.

Wednesday, October 29, 1969

We went to see Dr. Stone at Cooperstown. He changed the dressing on my foot. He removed the large bandage & it made my foot hurt much more than before.

Irene Klock called in the afternoon. She brought a loaf of brown bread.

Herbert went to grange meeting. Floyd &Alta called in the P. M. I watched a movie on TV while Herbert was at grange.

Saturday, November 1, 1969

Alma, Ethel & Ruth S. were here in the afternoon. The men worked on the corn. Marcia, Karen, Ann & Janice & Linda took electioneering material around F. Plain for Keith R. The boys helped Lulu Streed move to Canajoharie. Keith & Janice, Dean & Marta were here in the evening for “treats” for Halloween.

Herbert went to church. Tom Zedick, Marcia Jenny and Ann called called in the evening before they went back to Morrisville. It rained all day!!

Monday, November 3, 1969

Herbert cleaned up the laundry & put the onions & glad. Bulbs down cellar. Herbert & I canned applesauce for Juanita & Keith & he took it up the evening.

Tuesday, November 4, 1969

Election Day. Keith R. lost as candidate for Councilman. Martha Hillegas was here for supper. We had a very good visit.

Wednesday, November 5, 1969

Dean was here for about 1½ hrs before he went to school. Janice went to a meeting in Fonda. Herbert took me to Cooperstown Hospital. Dr. Stone removed the stitches from my foot.

Thursday, November 6, 1969

Herbert went to Ft. Plain in A. M. He went to St. J. in P. M. and had snow tires put on the car. In the evening Charles & Margaret came down. Herbert, Janice & Keith went to Pomona Grange meeting at Mayfield.

Friday, November 7, 1969

Herbert took papers to St. J. for the DAR paper drive. Madeliene had returned from N. Y. City and came here about 4 o’clock. Keith H. plowed in the evening.

Saturday, November 8, 1969

Keith R. plowed up on the hill. It rained in the forenoon. I made a cake and fixed steamed apples. I talked with Beulah Sanders & Etta Allen on the telephone.

We attended C. Creek church. There were 20 present. (The Richard cow had a heifer calf.) Herbert called Wm. Thresher to ask about Mildred. She still had pain in her head.

Monday, November 10, 1969

We did the washing and got most of the clothes dry in the house. It was not a drying day.

Tuesday, November 11, 1969

Herbert attended church council meeting at Lester Moshers in the evening. I did the ironing. The men picked corn.

Wednesday, November 12, 1969

Dean was here for an hour. We went to the funeral parlor where Harvey Glosser’s funeral was to be held the next day. We went to the card party at the Odd Fellows Temple and had a read good time.

Thursday, November 13, 1969

I went for a hair appointment. We heard in the evening that Margaret T. was in L. Falls Hospital because of a heart attack. The men picked 10 loads of corn.

Friday, November 14, 1969

I attended Community Club meeting. Herbert went to see Margaret. We attended Grange meeting at C. Creek. Juanita received 1st & 2nd degrees at grange.

Saturday, November 15, 1969

It was a nice sunshiny day. The men finished picking corn here & picked 4 loads at C. Creek. Madeliene was here in the P. M. Received letter from Ruth Burritt.

We attended church at C. Creek. We took Etta Allen home & she had invited us for supper. We had a very nice time. It was cold!

Monday, November 17, 1969

I wrote grange notices for the papers. Herbert called on Clarence Gray. All of them at Keiths, one after the other came down with some kind of grippe. It was Thurs. before any of the children could go to school.

Tuesday, November 18, 1969

We had a letter from aunt Genevieve. She had moved back to her former apartment. I was on DAR supper committee. We got along all right and had a good meeting. Ada Gray had her operation.

Wednesday, November 19, 1969

We attended a Tupperware party at Juanita’s & Keith’s. We had a nice time. It rained on the way up & snowed on the way back. Perry Streed shot a deer in our woods on this place.

I cleaned the china closet in the front room. I washed all the dishes. Herbert moved it out so we could clean behind it.

Friday, November 21, 1969

8 degrees above zero. Herbert had a bad cold & didn’t feel well. Madeliene came in P. M. I cleaned lamp shades and did quite a lot of house cleaning in A. M.

Saturday, November 22, 1969

It was a sunshiny day. In the afternoon I went after the mail & walked down the road for a ways; the first in several weeks. I made cookies & muffins. Herbert didn’t feel much better. Margaret went home from the hospital on Friday. Keith R. and Eleanor Jones came in for a little while in the evening.

We attended C. Creek church. Then we were invited up to Alta’s & Floyds – Bob, Hazel and George, Gordon, Janie & Pete were there also. We had a very nice time. Linda Lyons husband was killed.

Monday, November 24, 1969

We did the washing. Herbert went to Fort Plain. Alma came in the afternoon & stayed for supper. Alta phoned and said Wilfred Black had been hurt a few weeks ago.

Tuesday, November 25, 1969

Emmett Mosher was here for a while in the forenoon. I did the ironing. Charles & Margaret came in the afternoon for a little while. I walked up the road.

Wednesday, November 26, 1969

Herbert drove one of the cars for the Devereese funeral. He called on Edith Claus at the hospital. Keith H. & Juanita had her folks & his folks there for dinner at night. 20 were there.

Thursday, November 27, 1969 Thanksgiving Day.

We were invited down to Keith’s & Janice’s for dinner. Ann planned the menu & took charge of the dinner, which was delicious. Bob & Barbara Goldstein were there for the weekend.

Friday, November 28, 1969

Herbert & I went to Fort Plain in the afternoon & bought a few Christmas presents. When we got home I wrapped them up & Herbert went to C. C. grange Hall to put window in the door in the kitchen.

Herbert was ill with the 24 hr flu, or something like it. I went with Keith, Janice and Ann to an instructional grange meeting at Kolaneka grange.

In the evening of Thanksgiving Day Herbert and several from Keiths went bowling.

Bob & Barbara Goldstein went home. I went to church with Janice & Marta. Keith R. and Herbert were ill. Wilfred and Jane and Mrs. Samson called in PM.

Monday, December 1, 1969

I canned 14 qts of sweet apples. It snowed some in the night. Herbert & I went to Fort Plain to get a frame for a sampler I had made for Keith & Juanita’s Christmas present.

Herbert took Janice, Marion Groff, Hilda, Olga & me to the L. C. W. meeting at Mary Groffs.

Wednesday, December 3, 1969

The men hired a cattle truck & they moved 40 heifers into Ed Christman’s barn for the winter. We went to the Advent Service at the Reformed Church.

Herbert went up to Widankas to get new stanchions for the barn.

Friday, December 5, 1969

Letter from Iva & Philip Wendell. Herbert, Janice, Dean & Mr. Jones went with Keith H. to the auction at West Edmeston where James Christman’s cows were sold.

We invited Keith & Juanita down for supper & the evening. We had a nice time. Etta & Irene Klock phoned me.

Sunday, December 7, 1969

We attended C. Creek church. Marion Groff went with us. Then Herbert & I went to Dolgeville to call on Margaret & Charles.

Monday, December 8, 1969

It snowed in the night; thawed in the day time. I wrote lots of letters & cards. I made cookies, Herbert & I sealed letters & put stamps on them.

Tuesday, December 9, 1969

I spent most of my time writing cards & letters. Herbert started clipping cows. The men drew 2 loads of sawdust.

Wednesday, December 10, 1969

We went to L. Falls & Herkimer shopping in the forenoon. We attended the Advent Service at Congregational Church in St. J. Father Bice of Episcopal Church, L. Falls preached.

Thursday, December 11, 1969

I went for a hair appointment. I prepared the grange program in the forenoon and wrote some letters. It was 57 degrees part of the day.

Friday, December 12, 1969

We went to Grange meeting. Lulu Robinson went with us. Herbert didn’t feel well.

Saturday, December 13, 1969

Herbert took me to Study Class Christmas meeting and Mrs. Pryor & Mrs. McRoy brought me home. Herbert went to see Dr. Feldstein.

Sunday, December 14, 1969

Herbert didn’t feel much better. I went to church with Keith & Janice & family. It snowed some.

Monday, December 15, 1969

It was quite a little snow on the ground. I wrote up the grange news and some letters. Herbert was a little better.

Tuesday, December 16, 1969

Keith R. went to A. D. A. meeting in Syracuse & stayed until next day. Herbert & I put up our artificial Christmas tree & trimmed it.

Wednesday, December 17, 1969

A nice sunny day, but cold. Herbert went to F. Plain after groceries. I put up the Christmas cards, finished wrapping presents & did some trimming. Our colds were no better.

Thursday, December 18, 1969

Herbert went to the grange hall and cleaned it up and bought a Christmas tree & took it up there. I trimmed some more at home. I made cranberry relish. My cold was worse.

Friday, December 19, 1969

Madeliene was here in P. M. Herbert & I stopped for Marion G. and Edith Claus & took them to the church-grange community supper at the Grange Hall. About 70 were present.

We were very tired after being up the night before. Ann had Jr. Grange meeting.

Sunday, December 21, 1969

We attended church services at Crum Creek. It was a nice sunshiny day and warm enough to melt some of the snow.

Monday, December 22, 1969

(6 degrees below zero during the night) 12 inches of snow. The men plowed out the yard in the evening.

Tuesday, December 23, 1969

Still cold. Herbert went to St. J. after the meat & other groceries. Christmas presents & letter from Joanne & Gordon & family came. Clark Burkdorf aged 92 died.

Wednesday, December 24, 1969

We got things ready for Christmas. We were invited up to Keith’s & Juanita’s for the evening. All of Keith Raymond’s went. We did not go as I had to go to bed on time to get up early in the morning.

Thursday, December 25, 1969 Christmas.

18 degrees below zero. There were 14 here for Christmas dinner. (See below). We had a very nice time.

Friday, December 26, 1969

It snowed all night & most of the day. 18 inches. We were not out of the house. Thruway was closed. Keith R. stayed up at Keith H. all night. Juanita stayed all night at the hospital.

Saturday, December 27, 1969

Snowed again all day & it drifted badly. Keith & Janice’s 22nd wedding anniversary.

Roads drifted shut. Many churches closed. Plow didn’t open road past here until late afternoon. Thruway opened at about 3 P. M.

Monday, December 29, 1969

We had a letter from the Dunns. We took the Christmas tree & most of the decorations down & put them away. Madeliene was here to clean & brought us cookies. Keith R. came home at night.

Tuesday, December 30, 1969

Herbert went to St. J. after groceries. We did a large washing & I did part of the ironing. We had a letter from Alyson.

Wednesday, December 31, 1969

It snowed a lot more. We finished putting away Christmas decorations. I finished the ironing. I wrote to Grace Drake.
