18 degrees below zero in the morning. We did not go anywhere. Janice & Keith had the Streed families for dinner. Wayne, Robert Streed & Lee Safford rode on their snomobiles.

Friday, January 2, 1970

We had a card from Miguel Rubiano. It was a sunshiny cold day. We drove to St. J. & then up to Ralph Groffs to pay for flowers. The water tore the paper off in the corner of the kitchen. Ira & Edith Timmerman called in the P. M.

14 degrees below zero in morning. It snowed a good shard of the day. Alma, Ethel & Ruth S. called on the telephone. We had letter from Ruth Burritt. Keith H. stopped in for a little while.

Sunday, January 4, 1970

I finished reading “An Archaeologist looks at the gospels” by James L. Kelso. We attended church service at Crum Creek. Then we were invited up to Alta’s & Floyd’s for supper. Keith & Janice took Ann & Tom Jones back to Morrisville.

Monday, January 5, 1970

It was a sunshiny day. Herbert went to Fort after groceries in A. M. After dinner he went up to Crum Creek to take the Christmas tree out of the church. I wrote to Barbara Tyler & we had a letter from Aunt Genevieve. Lynne’s daughter’s name is Christine Noel.

Herbert took Janice & me to L. C. W. meeting at Marion’s. I wrote a letter to aunt Genevieve. It was a sunshiny day.

I made oatmeal cookies. A cold, sunshiny day. I wrote a letter to Emma Timmerman with genealogy about Herbert’s ancestors. We had a letter of thanks from Pastor & Kay for gift we sent Kristine.

I went to hairdresser’s in P. M. Herbert, Keith, Janice & I went to Pomona grange meeting at Johnstown. Garage caught fire near Klemme’s barn on the place next to us.

Friday, January 9, 1970

Herbert took Janice to see a doctor in Albany about her allergies. Herbert & I went to annual church meeting at Lester & Margaret Moshers.

Saturday, January 10, 1970

I talked with Hilda & Ethel Haig on the telephone. I typed the depreciation sheets for income tax. Herbert & I played some games. I asked Emmett & Hilda down, but they couldn’t come.

We attended church at C. Creek. Snow flurries & a cold wind. I talked with Alma on the telephone. Wayne was injured, when he was riding his Sno-mobile.

Monday, January 12, 1970

Wayne hasn’t any bones broken in his knees. The men clipped cows in the barn here. I made out the bank statement. I wrote letters to Jane Schaetzel & to Millie Lance.

I worked on my marriage invitations scrapbook in the forenoon. After dinner we went up to see Margaret & Charles & then to see Mildred & Wm. Thresher. Etta & Ruth Failing phoned me.

It was a cold day. I had Herbert bring up clothes from Janice’s so that I could iron them.

Thursday, January 15, 1970

14 below zero here & 25 below in Stratford. We did the washing and I ironed a little. Hazel sent us some date bread & holders. I talked with her and Juanita on the phone.

Friday, January 16, 1970

A little warmer. I ironed in the forenoon. Dottie Crouse was here to call in the afternoon. We had a good visit. Ann, a friend of hers and Tom Jones came from college down to Keith’s. Marcia went up to Juanita’s and Keith Herbert’s.

I typed some material to keep in the lineage file. We went down to Alma’s in the afternoon. We played Pinochle & stayed for supper. We had a very good time.

We went down to C. Creek to church. It was sunshiny, but a very cold wind. The young folks went back to Morrisville.

I made molasses cookies. Herbert took me down to F. Plain to get a “permanent.” Herbert went to have the oil changed in our car. I received invitation to a shower for D. Handy.

Tuesday, January 20, 1970

Very cold again. 22 below zero in Albany. I ironed for Janice in the forenoon. I finished reading a book. I talked with Alta on the telephone.

We went to F. Plain & I bought 2 dresses, a tan one with a jacket & a blue flowered jersey. We went to a card party at the Odd Fellows Temple in F. Plain. Very cold!!

Thursday, January 22, 1970

I received a letter from Grace Drake. I sent a letter to Genie Christman. I called Etta & Irene Klock. I worked at the desk & wrote check for taxes on this farm.

Friday, January 23, 1970

Herbert went to Little Falls and bought a new suit of clothes. Madeliene was here in the afternoon. I typed some material for in my files. I made a cake.

Saturday, January 24, 1970

I started working on income tax. We had a letter from Clyde Fitzer. He is home from hospital, but can’t work until March. One of Keith’s cows had triplets, born dead.

Sunday, January 25, 1970

We attended C. Creek church. There were 25 present. It snowed some in the afternoon. I called Alma & Marion Groff on the telephone. Hazel Trumbull & L. Swanson were married.

Monday, January 26, 1970

The C. C. grange put on a ham dinner for the Oppenheim Local of Dairylea. It went off well. Herbert & Janice helped. I stayed home & planned grange programs.

Tuesday, January 27, 1970

I wrote letters ordering some songs & march for the grange. I also filled out questionare for Alice Moore, who is getting ready for our 50 anniversary since we graduated from college.

It was much warmer. Keith H. got the down spout open so that water could run from roof into cistern. We went to card party at F. Plain. Marta & Dean were here while Janice & Keith H. milked.

It was warmer. I made chocolate cookies & cooked beans. Janice went after Tom Jones & Ann. I talked with Ethel and Juanita on the telephone. Burton Schuyler died in Florida.

We had grange meeting here. There were 15 present & we had a nice time. Juanita was obligated in the 3rd & 4th degrees.

I went to variety shower for Debra Handy at Inghams Mills. Herbert went to visit Harold & Gary.

We went to C. Creek church. It was a youth service. Jack Carter played songs on his guitar. Janice played piano, choir sang & Jimmie Mueller preached. We went to Chapman Funeral Parlor where Burton Schuyler’s body was.

We did the washing. It was cloudy day & rained quite a lot. The weather was quite mild. Janice took Wayne to see Dr. Mueller, as he had been hurt on his hand with their cat.

Herbert took me to L .C. W. meeting at Marion Groffs. There were 6 of us present. It was a freezing rain.

I worked a while on income tax. Then I got out woolen material to get ready to make some blankets for L. C. W. project on Sat. Tanker didn’t come until 6:30 P. M.

Herbert went to auction at East Creek & then went up to Mabel Barkers to pay taxes. I received a letter from Nina.

Madeline was here in the P. M. I worked in the forenoon on L. C. W. blanket project. I sent a get-well card to Marjorie Smith & to Nellie Flanders.

Marion, Alta, Hilda, Etta and Olga came to work on making blankets for L. C. W. project. The trees were covered with frozen fog in the morning and they were beautiful.

Herbert took Ann, Tom Jones & Jack Carter back to Morrisville to register for 2nd semester. We heard that Russell Klock is in Amsterdam Hospital. I wrote to the Maloys.

We attended Ash Wed. Service at St. Johnsville Lutheran church. Keith R. went to Syracuse for ADA meeting & tax meeting.

The snow drifted some. The snow plow went by a couple of times. I finished the quilt. I wrote to Iva & Leland.

Herbert took me to F. Plain for a hair appointment. Then he went to St. J. to get the car washed. We had Valentine from Ann & letter from aunt Genevieve. She said Katy’s sister died.

We went to the wedding of Debra Handy and David Suits at L. Falls Methodist church. We attended the reception at the Masonic Temple. Herbert gave me a beautiful Valentine.

We attended church at C. Creek. It snowed, but we got up & back safely. It stopped snowing about 5 o’clock.

We did the washing & part of the ironing. Marion G. called on the telephone. I made corn bread & milk gravy for lunch.

I finished the ironing & made applesauce. I worked on income tax. Herbert took Keith R. to Gloversville to buy some parts for Ann’s car. Alyson sent us 2 Valentines.

A mild day. We attended Lenten Service at Reformed church. Minnie Bradley went with us. I wrote a letter to Hazel Schuyler. I received a birthday card from Grace Drake.

Alma invited Ethel Haig, Ruth Sheffield, Florence Bailey & us down for a 1:00 o’clock combined birthday dinner. We had a very nice time. I received 7 birthday cards.

My birthday! Now I am 71 yrs. old. Bob & Barbara Goldstein called. Herbert went to Gloversville to get some things for Wayne. I had several birthday cards.

I started cutting out blocks to make a blanket. I had a surprise in the afternoon. Janice, Keith R. & Keith H., Wayne, Karen, Marta & Dean, Yvette Taylor & Bob & Barbara came with presents, ice cream & cake. Don & Lelah Klemme came to call in the evening.

We attended C. Creek Church. Then we called on Mr. & Mrs. Mixter who were at the Berners. Then we went for supper to the St. J. restaurant. Gorge Osterling of Peru was at Caslers & he called me on the phone. He was an exchange student in 1967 & I was his math teacher.

I wrote a letter to June & sent a card to Margaret Mosher. Herbert & Janice went to see Allen Samuels about income tax. I worked on cutting out quilt blocks. Harold Handy stopped in for a visit.

Nice day. The men finished putting in new stanchions. Margaret & Charles called in the afternoon. I prepared the grange program.

I worked on the quilt. We had a letter from Kate Smith. We attended the Union Lenten service at the Congregational Church. The milk inspector was here.

Nice sunshiny day. Janice came up in afternoon to look up information for income tax. Herbert went to Valley Equipment program at St. J. theater in the evening.

Herbert went to Morrisville after Ann & Jack Carter. Richard Shuster also rode home with them. The grange meeting was here. We had a good meeting & an enjoyable time.

Ann had the Jr. grange meeting down there. I spent most of the extra time working on quilt. I had letter from Ann & Mildred & Will Thresher.

We went to C. Creek to church. Then we went to call on Will & Mildred Thresher & then on Nina Levensaler. It was a nice sunshiny day.

We did the washing in the forenoon. In the afternoon I typed & worked on geneology.

I ironed in the forenoon. Herbert took me to L. C. A. meeting at Olga Beischers. Herbert went up to see Charles & Margaret. I received letter from Ruth Burritt.

It rained & started to freeze in the evening. We were ready to go to the Lenten Service at St. J., but Janice told us it was too icy. Dean fell on the ice & cut his chin. Keith R. was ill all day.

Thursday, March 5, 1970

Keith R. was still ill. There was no school on account of icy roads. I worked on geneology and some on the quilt. I talked with Nina on the telephone.

Madeliene was here to clean. Herbert, Minnie Bradley & I went to the World Day of Prayer Service at the Congregational church. The cows came through the T. B. test O. K.

Herbert’s birthday. After we came home from church, we had Keith & Janice & family stop here for dessert in honor of Herbert’s 66th birthday. Then in the evening Keith Herbert & Juanita were here.

We went down to Janice’s in the P. M. and we worked on income tax preparation. The Ag-Way men started installing a lavatory in the milk house.

Herbert took Janice over to Tax Bureau in Johnstown. He went up to see Genie Christman. Herbert had birthday cards & letters from Marion & Veba, Leland & Iva & Genie and Dottie.

Floyd Weaver is in L. Falls Hospital. I worked on the quilt for L. C. W. project. Herbert went to St. J. for some groceries. He also visited with Carl Nellis.

I made dessert for Comm. Club supper. Russell Klock died between 5-6 P. M. today. We went to Lenten Service at Methodist Church.

Herbert took Mrs. Ellis, Martha Hillegas & me to the Comm. Club. Our supper went off well. In the evening we attended grange meeting at Alfred & Ethel Reeses.

Herbert attended a Directors & Officers’ meeting of S. Z. T. Reunion at St. J. from 11-1 o’clock. Then he came home & took me to Study Class meeting at E. Bronks. After that we called at Lull’s Funeral Home.

Herbert & Keith R. attended Russell Klock’s funeral. I went with Janice & her family to the C. Creek church service. I talked with Ada Gray on the telephone.

Minnie & Madeliene went with us to the Union Service at the Catholic Church. I had a letter from Grace Drake. She sent an obituary of Ernest Gladstone (a boy I had in school when I taught in Franklin).

John & Libbie call and Fancher & Eleanor Schuyler called in P. M. John & Libbie stayed for supper. It was a sunshiny day. Dr. Feldstein was down at Keiths to give them shots to help them get over the flu.

Madeliene was here to clean in the afternoon. I made oatmeal cookies, and finished the quilt. Floyd Weaver was a little better than yesterday. I sent birthday card to Lena Burkdorf.

Keith R. went to Binghamton on “Path of Life” business. I ironed for Janice in P. M. Herbert took Wayne to Dr. Muller’s to have the stitches taken out of his wrist.

Janice took Keith R. to Albany airport & he flew to Chicago for ADA meeting. She got back in time to go to church at C. Creek. We stopped to see Keith H. a little while. Hazel T. Swanson is home & I talked with her on the phone.

It was Juanita’s 21st birthday. I typed geneology. Ethel Haig went to St. Mary’s Hospital. Herbert & I had hard colds & didn’t feel well.

Myron Johnson died at 9 P. M. in hospital. A sunshiny day. Herbert went to F. Plain after groceries. We went over to Muellers with an Ideals magazine to send to Caroline, but Herbie said she had a copy. Janice, Wayne & Eleanor went to Albany airport to meet Keith R.

We attended Good Friday Service at Lutheran church. Then we called at Lulls Funeral Parlor. We attended a concert by the choir from Northwestern Univ. at Reformed church.

Herbert, Ann & Marta cleaned up the C. Creek church in the forenoon. We attended Myron Johnson’s funeral. Then Marion Groff went with us to see F. Weaver at the hospital. We also saw Joe Korniat there.

We went to C. Creek to church. Janice, Ann & Karen sang a trio. Janice invited us down there for supper. We had a very nice time. Keith H, Juanita & Elinor went over to Jones.

Herbert went to see Dr. Feldstein as he had a severe sinus infection which affected his throat. Janice came up to help with income tax & stayed for supper.

We finished the work on the income taxes. We went up to call on Roger & Grace in the evening. We stayed until about 10:45.

Margaret & Charles were here for the afternoon & for supper. We had washed in the forenoon. Herbert mailed the income taxes.

It started raining in the night & rained almost all day. Pomona grange meeting at Sacandaga was called off as it was surrounded by about 1½ feet of water. I baked for DAR bake sale.

Friday, April 3, 1970

Herbert took food up to St. J. for food sale. Madeliene was here. Herbert & I went to the bank in the P. M. and called at the Swartz Funeral Home. Blanche Wood had died on Wed. We bought paint.

Herbert & I started painting the kitchen. Keith R. & Keith H. went to an auction. Ethel Haig came home from the hospital.

We attended Crum Creek church service. Then we went to L. Falls Hospital to see Floyd Weaver & Joe Korniat. Esther, Pete, Jennifer & Paul were down to see Floyd. We ate supper at St. J. Rest.

Monday, April 6, 1970

It was nice day. We painted in the kitchen. We had a letter from Carmita Mixter. Alta phoned & said Floyd is going to Veterans’ Hospital tomorrow or next day.

Tuesday, April 7, 1970

I worked on grange program. Herbert painted. In afternoon he took me to L. C. W. meeting at Olga Beischers. I painted some when we got home. He was up to see Threshers & Margaret, while I was at LCW.

Wednesday, April 8, 1970

I painted some more on cupboards. We went to see Ethel Haig in P. M. Keith R. & Wayne nearly had an accident when Wayne came out on the road in front of his dad coming in the big truck. They missed by Keith going over the ditch and into the field.

Herbert painted more in the kitchen. I put things back in the kitchen drawers, which I had painted. I went for a walk up the road. The wind was pretty strong.

I made molasses cookies & an apple pie for the grange baking contests. I attended community club meeting in P. M. We went to grange meeting at Bellingers & had a good time. Janice won cookie contest & Laura Clairs the pie contest.

We called on Mildred Klock in the afternoon. Her daughter, Sally, & family were there. We had card from June Sekol letting us of arrival of baby girl weighing almost 11 lbs. (Marietta Frances)

We attended C. Creek Church Service. Then we drove up to call the Wolanskis, but Sephia was not there, so I didn’t go into the house. Herbert didn’t feel very well.

Monday, April 13, 1970

It was a nice day. I wrote grange notices for the papers and some cards and went for a walk when I took them to the mail box. Herbert went to Farmers Banquet at F. Plain. The 2 Keiths went later.

A pleasant warm sunny day. Herbert & I painted more in the kitchen. Floyd Weaver had his operation.

Wednesday, April 15, 1970

We went to F. Plain to buy kitchen paper & I also bought a coat. We went to the Jack & Jill Restaurant for supper. Wayne & Karen went swimming & diving in our pond.

Thursday, April 16, 1970

A nice warm day. Keith H. started plowing in the late afternoon. Herbert & I worked on the kitchen. He also took car to garage to have the winter tires taken off.

Friday, April 17, 1970

Madeliene was here in the afternoon. We attended neighbor-night grange meeting at Mayfield. Perthshire and Bleecker put on the program.

I bought a new pair of shoes. I went for a hair appointment. Herbert went up to S. Leggs after a fencer. We went to the fritter supper put on by the St. J. Lutheran church. It was a little colder.

Bob & his friend stopped by to say goodbye. We went to Communion Service at C. Creek. Then we went to call on Lena Burkdorf.

Monday, April 20, 1970

We did the washing & I also did the ironing. The furnace stopped & we had to have a man come twice to fix it. Ada Walrath Paris died in the forenoon.

Tuesday, April 21, 1970

Mildred & Wm. Thresher & a friend of theirs called in the afternoon. I went to DAR meeting. Ada Davey went with us. Douglas Ayers was the speaker.

Herbert did some plastering in the kitchen. Marion Groff took Alta up to see Floyd. Dean & Marta came in & played dominoes with us for while after supper. Keith R. went to Ithaca.

We attended Ada Paris’ funeral and then we were invited to come up to Bill & Margaret Snitzlein’s (Ada’s daughter) for lunch.

It was very dark, rainy day. Herbert finished sizing the kitchen ceiling. I did quite a lot of house cleaning in our bedroom & Herbert washed the windows. Madeliene came late.

I made 2 cakes. We went in the evening to Co. Neighbor-night grange meeting at Perth. Mont. Co put on a very good program. There were 80 present. Edith Claus went with us.

Sunday, April 26, 1970

We attended C. Creek church. It was a “youth” service & was very good. Then we went after Ethel Haig & took her for a ride. We went down to find out where Scotch church grange hall was.

Monday, April 27, 1970

It was a warm day, up in the 80 range in P. M. Herbert & I did some more painting of cabinets, table & plant stand for the porch. I drove the car up beyond Mindenville & back to St. J. with Herbert with me. It was the first I had tried to drive this car.

It was another nice warm day. I did some typing on geneology & lots of odd tasks. Floyd W. was to have an exploratory operation. Herbert cleaned up lawn & helped Keith H. build fence.

Letter from Ruth Burritt. Keith R. plowed all night with a demonstrator tractor & plows from Nelliston Equipment Co. It was a nice warm day. I cleaned my wardrobe & washed some dresses.

Etta, Keith, Herbert & I went to Pomona Grange at Northville. It was a nice night to go. In the night the trailer on the airport rode burned down.

It was a hot day. We did the washing. The men got the tractor back from the Nelliston Equipment store & Keith Herbert plowed. Madeliene was here. I had letter from Esther Klock.

Herbert bought a riding lawn mower. Herbert took the things I had baked for the grange food sale. Karen & Tom Jones stopped in on their way to the Jr. Prom. They looked very nice.

We went to C. Creek to church in P. M. Then we went up to call on Nina & Marjorie. We went to call on Margaret & Charles, but we missed them as they had been here. Don Hayes house caught fire last night and was badly damaged.

Monday, May 4, 1970

Charles & Margaret came in the evening. In the forenoon we went to F. Plain to the bank. I also got string to fix my pearl necklace, which Herbert had given me when we were married. I put the beads on the string and Mr. Doerrer put the clasp on.

Herbert, Edith Claus, Mae Bellinger, Juanita & I went together to Neighbor Night grange meeting at Bleecker. Mayfield & C. Creek put on the program. There were 50 present. Floyd W. came home from the hospital.

It was a cold windy day. We washed the dining room curtains.

Frost. I ironed the curtains. Alma Miller & Mrs. Rufenacht came in the afternoon & stayed for supper. We had a nice visit. It was sunshiny, but windy & cold.

We went to dinner at Knickerbocker Pub in Albany. It was the 50th anniversary of the graduating class of 1920 from N. Y. S. College for Teachers. It was a nice reunion and it seemed good to see my former classmates. We got home at midnight.

We went up to call on Alta & Floyd. It seemed good to see Floyd at home. We stayed for supper. Edna & Lloyd Brown came there before we left.

It was Mothers Day & a beautiful day. Karen & Elinor brought me trillions & Keith gave me petunias. We called on Clarence & Ada Gray. Then we went to Pete’s Restaurant for supper.

We attended Edith Claus’ funeral at 9:30 A. M. in Catholic church in St. J. Herbert went up to Keith Herbert’s & disced until nearly dark. Juanita came home from the hospital. It was a warm day.

Barn burned down on Emmanuel Allen farm. Herbert plowed at the Snell place. I went with Janice in P. M. and we worked some at the grange hall. Herbert, Keith & Juanita had been there part of the forenoon. I washed the Venetian blinds.

A nice pleasant day. We attended church at C. Creek. Then we went for a ride. We ate dinner in Richfield Springs. Then we went to call on Juanita’s parents but didn’t find anybody at home. We also tried to find Mrs. Storch, but she wasn’t home.

A nice day. We read in the paper that Floyd Harrington died yesterday. We did the washing and I did part of the ironing. Herbert & I watched a special TV program “Trip to No Where” on Drug Addiction. Mrs. Leland Swartz died yesterday also.

DeKalb representative and Donald Shore ran a weight test for an acre of corn in the field across the road from the house. It averaged a little over 23 tons to the acre. In the P. M. Mr. & Mrs. Mixter and Mr. & Mrs. Berner came up. We had a very good time. We played 6-handed pinochle. Received letter from Grace Drake. Walter Morse had killed himself.

The road men tarred the road past here. The men put a few more loads of corn in the wood silo. Lillian Penney’s sister, Helen, died very suddenly on the way to Ohio. A severe thunderstorm while the folks were milking. Electricity off a while.

We attended C. Creek church Service. Then we went to Grays Funeral Parlor where Helen Penney Wilcox & Edna Snyder (97 yrs) were. We came home & after we had supper, we went up to see Charles & Margaret.

I canned 6 cans of applesauce in the forenoon. In the P. M. I made 2 cakes for DAR next day. The men cut corn & put it in the silo. They also fixed fence on the hill.

A dark cloudy & rainy day. I was on DAR supper committee with Thelma Miles (chairman) & Dorcas Plank. Catherine Feldstein was new Regent. Frederick Kirkpatrick was the speaker in observance of Constitution Day.

Herbert & Lester Mosher spent the whole day canvassing for money for new furnace to be installed in basement of Crum Creek Church.

A nice day. Herbert & Lester made more calls in the forenoon. Marion G. and Ethel Reese called me on the telephone. We went in the evening to Swartz’s Funeral Parlor. Evely Caslers mother (Mrs. Cowisen had died). Then we went to call on Ethel Haig.

Dark, rainy day. I ironed the curtains for the east bedroom & Madeliene put them up in the afternoon. The men cut 2 loads of corn to feed the cows. I wrote to aunt Genevieve.

A nice day. Leonard Swanson came after tomatoes. Hazel sent up a can of pickles. Keith’s family attended John Fero’s wedding. Herbert & I attended card party at C. Creek grange hall. He won pinochle prize.

A beautiful day. We attended C. Creek church. The new furnace was turned on for heat. We went to call on Kurt & Loretta Lockner, but they were not home. Then we went to see Betty Perkins & from there went to Esther & Pete’s. We stayed for supper.

A nice day. We did the washing & I did part of the ironing. The men filled silo. Juanita was in the hospital. She went the evening previous. Hazel & Leonard came after some pickles & beets.

Tuesday, September 22, 1970

Very hot. Thunder showers in the evening. The men drew corn. I finished the ironing. We went up to the hospital in the evening to see Juanita and Edna Casler.

I made 8 qts. of tomato juice. Herbert went up to grange hall and then over to the old place. Someone had picked the pears off of the good tree. Juanita came home from the hospital.

I canned 3 qts. of pears. I went to the hairdressers & to a couple of stores. It was a sunshiny warm day.

The men started filling temporary silo down by next barn. We attended grange meeting in the evening at C. Creek. We washed & ironed bay window curtains & Madeliene put them up.

Herbert dug part of the glads & I cut off the tops. I also cut off hollyhocks. A real warm nice day. Janice & Karen had Jr. Grange meeting.

Dean was 6 yrs. old. It was also Alma Millers birthday. She went to church with us & then we took her to Dolgeville for dinner & went for a ride. We went to Swartz’s Funeral parlor. Art Sickler was dead. Loren Cross died.

Herbert put big plant up stairs. The men finished refilling the cement silo. Keith R. went to ADA meeting at Buffalo. Herbert finished the digging of gladiolas. I wrote up grange news for the newspapers. I called up Alma & Marion Groff.

Keith H. took the ivy upstairs. Janice & I went over estimate for income tax in P. M. The temporary silo partly gave way. We went to Lull’s Funeral Parlor & talked with Nellie Cross & Loren, Jr.

We started from home about 9:30 AM. We went to So. Burlington, Vt., where we stayed all night. We enjoyed the scenery. It only sprinkled a little.

Cloudy day. Sun was out for a few minutes. After breakfast we went back to Hinesburg Post Office. Then a woman told us where to find Margaret Sagon. We stayed all night near Manchester.

We went to Benningtom and then went to Mechanicsville. We visited with Philip & Iva Wendell for a couple of hrs. We reached home a little after 5. Amy Lingenfelter died this afternoon.

Keith took Janice to L. Falls Hospital in the morning. She had severe pain & the doctor thought it might be a gall bladder attack. Herbert brought the plants in off of the front porch.

We attended Crum Creek Church Service. Then we went to see Janice at the hospital. After supper we went to the Cole Funeral Home in Johnstown, where Amy Lingenfelter was.

I ironed for Keiths family in forenoon. Keith H. and Herbert were here for dinner. Then they started filling silo at Crum Creek. Margaret Handy died during the night. Tom Jones & Keith R. went to Utica.

Marion Groff took Olga & me to LCW meeting at Alta’s. Herbert went to church council meeting at Lester Moshers in the evening. Keith & Karen went to see Janice. She didn’t feel very good.

A nice warm day. We attended Margaret Handy’s funeral. Then Herbert went up to help Keith H. & Tom fill silo at C. Creek. Keith R. went to a meeting at Syracuse.

A warm day, just like summer. I canned beets. The men put in corn at C. Creek. The barn here was whitewashed. Herbert, Mae Bellinger & I went up to the grange hall to get ready for grange installation. Dean was some better.

Nice warm day. Janice came home from the hospital. Marion Groff took me up to Community Club meeting & Herbert came after me. We went to grange installation in the evening.

Ann took Karen & Eleanor to Junior grange meeting. Ann took their washing to the Laundromat. Keith R. plowed on the hill. The other men filled silo at C. Creek. Clifford Bronk was in hospital because of a light stroke.

Warm day – hazy. Trees were very beautiful. We went to C. Creek church. We called on Ada & Clarence; then ate at St. J. Restaurant. We went up to see Margaret & Charles in the evening.

Rained a little. We did the washing. Keith R. took Karen to Cobleskill College for an interview. Keith H. was here for dinner. Ruth Sheffield called on the telephone.

It rained some. I did most of the ironing. The men refilled silos at C. Creek. We went down to Alma Miller’s in the evening and played the game Rack-O. We had a good time.

A nice sunshiny day. The men drew corn. I made an apple pie & fixed some steamed apples. I pulled some weeds along part of the walk. We had a card from Mildred & Wm. Thresher, who were down in Maryland.

Rainy day. I went for a hair appointment & then Herbert took me over to Helmar’s and I bought a red dress. In the afternoon we went down to call on Reuben & Ruth Failing. Keith H. & Tom got the aerial so that we could watch TV.

Cold wind. Keith R. went to meeting at Syracuse. Madeliene came in P. M. Herbert & I went to Lull’s Funeral Parlor and then to the library. We went down to call on Swansons before we came home.

A cold windy day. I made cookies & baked squash in the forenoon. Herbert helped draw corn. We went to card party at C. Creek grange hall & I won 1st prize for a change.

A nice sunshiny day. We attended church at C. Creek. We then rode up to Dolgeville & then went from there up north from Oppenheim & back down into Lassellsville. I called Alma on the telephone & wrote a letter to Marion & Veba.

Nice, sunshiny day. The men drew corn. I was very surprised when Rachel Horn from Florida came to call. She was staying with Carlton & Bessie Horn in St. J. Herbert went to joint council meeting at the St. J. Lutheran church.

A nice day. Herbert took me to DAR meeting. I had to leave early, and then he, Janice and I went to the LCW service at St. J. church. Rev. Frank Marshall preached & also showed slides of Mali fishing.

It rained a little. I went for a walk. I wrote a letter to Iva & Leland Bellinger & a get well card to Marion Black. The men started filling the silo at the Snell place. We had a letter from aunt Genevieve.

A dark rainy day. It was Tom Jones’ birthday. I wrote to Mrs. Engel in Michigan. I mended clothes for L. World Action. I talked with Ethel Haig on the telephone.

Dark rainy day. Herbert & Madeliene washed windows on east side of the house. I ironed & mended more clothes of Lutheran World Action. Ruth Failing went to see Dr. Failing & he sent here to Albany Medical Center.

Nice sunshiny day. The men worked with the corn. Herbert & I attended card party at C. Creek grange hall. Ruth Failing had to have her eye removed at Albany Medical Center.

We attended Communion Service at C. Creek church. Keith R. left in the forenoon to go to Binghamton to State Grange Session. I wrote letter to Grace Drake & card to Ruth Failing.

Hazy day. The men put corn in silo at Snell farm. I washed part of dishes from the china closet. Bertha Smith called on the telephone and also Ruth Sheffield. Herbert dug out part of the carrots.

Nice day. We did the washing and I did part of the ironing. Keith had come home Monday night & got Janice & took her to State Grange Session. Juanita was having vacation & took care of Dean & Marta.

A nice day. Keith H. cut some hay & the men put corn in the silo. I ironed, washed more dishes from the dining room & made out grange program. Herbert & I went to pancake supper at Starkville.

A nice day. The men drew 5 loads of hay in the Snell barn and finished cutting the corn up there. Juanita came down to see me in the afternoon and asked us there for Christmas.

Cold day. Ruth Failing came home from the hospital. Herbert didn’t feel well & rested in the P. M. Madeliene was here. We went to the grange meeting in the evening. Keith gave report of State Grange Session.

Cold day. I made cookies in the forenoon. In the afternoon I rode with Herbert up on the hill at the old place, while he picked apples. We talked with Ruth Failing on the phone.

A pleasant day. We attended C. Creek church. We were invited up to Dorothy & Harold’s for a birthday supper for Margaret (She was 70). Eleanor Schuyler was there also.

A very nice day. I cleaned & mopped the back porch. I wrote up the grange news for the 2 newspapers. Herbert worked at C. Creek most of the day. In the morning he & I went to F. Plain to buy groceries.

Nice day. Herbert & I went down to F. Plain to vote in forenoon. In afternoon the L. C. W. meeting was here. Pastor Johnson came for a while. The men finished the haying & filling silos.

Nice day. Herbert went to the bank & to Prime’s garage to have our car serviced. I made applesauce & steamed apples. I wrote a letter to aunt Genevieve. It was Karen’s 17th birthday.

We went to Pomona grange meeting at Mayfield. It was installation of officers. I did some ironing & mending. It was a windy day.

It was warm. The men drew corn and Herbert plowed. I wrote to Ruth Burritt and to Mrs. Engel. C. Feldstein called & invited me to go to DAR round table the next week at Cooperstown.

Keith R. and Tom fixed the aerial and then the T. V. worked all right. Alma & Ethel Haig came about 2 o’clock & stayed for supper. We had a good time.

A beautiful day. We went to church service at St. J. C. Creek, Starkville & St. J. had a combined service. Then we had a covered dish dinner and gave gifts from the 3 churches to Pastor Johnson, wife & 2 daughters. We called on Doris Handy & Ethel Handy.

We got up early & took Ethel Haig over to Cooperstown Hospital. Then we went over to see Grace & Agnes Drake. We got Ethel on the way back. We ate at “Pan-Cake Man” Restaurant near Oneonta. Keith H. broke his toe when the wagon tongue dropped on it.

It rained some. Herbert took me to F. Plain for a hair appointment in P. M. The men cut Peter Klock’s corn. I finished the ironing and washed 2 white sweaters. Marion Groff called on telephone.

I attended Community Club meeting in the afternoon. In the evening we went to grange meeting. Emmett Claus showed movies of church & grange activities.

Herbert took Ruth Sheffield & me to Study Class meeting at Mrs. Swartzmann’s. Mr. Fuelner teacher in F. Plain School was the speaker.

Seven of us (2 from Starkville church) Mr. & Mrs. Dingman (Wm. Beecher, Ann Klemme & Isabel Smith from St. Pauls) & Herbert & I went to Sidney to hear Rev. Richard Clark preach. Then we were ivited to the parsonage for dinner. We attended “open house” for Elmer & Mary Schell on their 60th wedding anniversary.

The men cleaned sand out of the well with a (mud-sucker) or diaphram pump. I wrote notices for the newspapers & made brown bread. Herbert took Karen over for play practise.

Rainy & dark. Bob Goldstein & a friend of his called. Bob brought us cookies, etc. We went to the Senior Play “up the Down Staircase” at St. J. Karen had a part in it. Ann & Jack sat next to us.

Herbert and I went to Ft. Plain in the forenoon to buy some things for Thanksgiving. Margaret & Charles came in the evening. Ruth Failing called on the telephone & said Janet Groff Werfleman had a baby daughter.

We went to C. Creek to church service. The Rev. Kenneth Arnsten from the Clinton Lutheran Home preached a very good sermon. Council meeting after church. We went up to Alta & Floyd Weavers for a little while.

We fixed the cabbage for Thanksgiving. Herbert went after the turkey in the afternoon.

Cold & snow squalls. I made fruit salad for Thanksgiving. Herbert drove truck of corn from across the Thruway by the way of Herkimer Exit.

Not as cold as previous day. Joanne, Gordon, Alyson & Jeffrey came a little after 5. Then we planned about dishes to be used for food the next day.

There were 15 of us for dinner. Keith R.’s and Joanne’s families & the Goldsteins. We had a very nice time & it seemed so good to all be together. Keith & Juanita went to her folks.

We called on Margaret & Charles in afternoon & then also stopped to see Alta & Floyd. Joanne’s family went up to Keith & Juanita’s after supper.

Rather cold & cloudy. Joannes left about 9:45. Then we got ready for church. Rev. Clark had communion & preached his trial sermon. Cecil Haney died while at the Grace Congregational Church.

I filled out the 4 blanks which had to be ready to mail about getting Rev. Clark as minister. Then Herbert & Ralph signed them. Herbert got the church seal to us which was at the parsonage. Herbert called Lester Mosher at Tuscon, Arizona.

I went with Janice to the LCW meeting at Etta Allens. We went to Smiths Funeral Parlor where Cecil Haney’s funeral is to be tomorrow. Had a card from Iva & Leland.

A beautiful sunshiny day (50-60 degrees). Herbert & Perry Streed worked on building the chimney on the grange hall. Herbert & I did a large washing & I ironed some. I wrote 12 Christmas cards & letters.

Another beautiful day. We went down to Janice’s for a little while in AM. In afternoon Herbert went to auction where Irving Klock’s dairy was sold.

We went to F. Plain in the forenoon to do some Christmas shopping. Madeliene was here late in the afternoon. We wrapped a few Christmas presents.

We went to a county training meeting at Mayfield in the evening. Keith H. and Juanita & Clyde Fitzer went with us. It was slippery on the way home and as cars were across the road on Sand Hill, we went back to F. Plain & then up to St. J.

We went to C. Creek to church in P. M. and to Advent Service at St. J. in the evening. It was a very cold stormy day.

Monday, December 7, 1970

It snowed some (Herbert bought winter tires for the front wheels of the car & had them put on). We went to F. Plain to a few stores in the forenoon. Grange put on supper for Dairymans League.

It snowed some again. I made cranberry relish for the Community Club supper. I wrapped some Christmas presents. We had a nice long letter from Janet Kilpatrick, who has moved to Lowville.

Herbert took Ethel Haig to Cooperstown Hospital to keep an appointment with 2 doctors. I worked on material for grange program & made the dessert for Comm. Club.

A nice sunny day. I made the big cake for the grange Christmas meeting. Rev. & Mrs. Henry Johnson called for a little while. Herbert went to St. J. & Fort Plain. I wrote Christmas cards & letters.

Friday, December 11, 1970

I was on the supper comm. at Community Club at St. J. There were only a few present. It snowed hard & roads were so slippery that grange meeting was called off. I was sorry as I had a very good program planned.

It snowed some more in the afternoon. Herbert took me down to Study Class meeting at Mrs. Sentocknik’s. A missionary to West Pakistan showed slides & gave a very interesting talk. A very nice, enjoyable meeting.

We attended Church Service at C. Creek. There were 22 present. The roads were slippery. We did not try to go to the Advent Service.

I wrote Christmas cards. Herbert did up some Christmas presents. I called Cornelius Risk on the telephone. I played some on the piano.

Herbert & I went to the DAR Christmas Party & covered-dish supper at Community House in St. J. We had a very good time (36 present). I wrote cards & letters. Mr. Venter came to see us about power line going across C. Creek farm.

We did the washing. I wrote a lot more cards. Herbert went to F. Plain. Keith Raymond went yesterday to ADA meeting in Syracuse to stay 2 days. Cold & windy day.

Thursday, December 17, 1970

School closed on account of snow. I did part of the ironing. Herbert did not feel well. School Christmas musical program was not given. Keith R. plowed out our yard.

I finished the ironing. Herbert went to F. Plain after more stamps & cards & to the grange hall after the wreath which had been left there. Madeliene was here to clean. We received a present from James Thomas in the mail.

It rained & froze for a while; several accidents on Thruway not far from here. We put up the Christmas tree & some of the decorations. I wrote more cards & letters. Herbert called up Harold H. on his 54th birthday.

We went to C. Creek to church. In the evening we went to Reformed Church to the 4th Advent Service. The young people conducted the service. Karen rode home with us.

We went to F. Plain in the forenoon. Herbert bought pants & a sport jacket. In the P. M. he and Emmett fixed a hole in the C. Creek church. Our gifts came from Joannes & Ethel Haig, but we didn’t open them.

Tuesday, December 22, 1970

It snowed and blew. We had meant to attend Musical program at St. J. School, but didn’t go on account of the storm. I made a lot of cookies & packed part of them.

Wednesday, December 23, 1970

Herbert took around 7 boxes of cookies which I had made. The Casler families gave us a beautiful box of fruit. Gregory Davis came home for over the Holidays.

I made 2 apple pies for Christmas. Jack Taylor brought down cookies & Hazel sent up cookies & nuts in a Christmas dish. We went to St. J. Lutheran Church to the Candle Light Service from 11-12 0’clock.

We left about 11:15 to go up to Keith’s & Juanita’s. There were 29 present for dinner and the afternoon. We had a very good enjoyable Christmas. Herbert gave me a beautiful Bulova watch.

Keith Raymond was 44 today. It was a nice day. Barbara Goldstein’s sister & husband came down to Keiths. Herbert & I felt tired & didn’t do much. Madeliene was here to clean. We started a large puzzle, given to us by Keith & Juanita.

Keith & Janice’s 23rd wedding anniversary. We attended Crum Creek Church Service. Then we came home & we didn’t have any callers. We called Joanne on the telephone. The doctor had operated on Jeffrey’s foot on Sat.

I wrote a letter to Elizabeth Failing, who had moved to California. Dean & Marta were here for a while in the afternoon. We played dominoes with them.
