January 1, 1972

This was Karen’s & Tom’s wedding day. They were married at 1:30 at C. Creek Church. Reception at St. J. in the Catholic Community Hall. A beautiful sunshiny day. Roads were good.

January 2, 1972

We attended C. Creek Church. There was a small attendance. It had snowed some in the early forenoon. Albert Smith had to enter L. Falls Hospital.

January 3, 1972

It was a nice sunshiny day. We put the Christmas tree & ornaments away. Hazel Swanson brought me a dress. Karen phoned home.

January 4, 1972

Herbert went to the bank at F. Plain. I wrote to Joanne. We had thank-you notes from Alyson, Jeffrey & Beth Safford, Etta phoned & said Alberta Koch is in L. Falls Hospital.

January 5, 1972

Herbert took me up to L. C. W. meeting at Marion Groffs. Grace Johnson died that forenoon in L. Falls Hospital.

January 6, 1972

It was a sunshiny cold day. Herbert went up to Smiths Funeral Parlor. Esther Schuyler had died Tuesday. He visited with Leon and their children.

January 7, 1972

It snowed some. Madeliene came in afternoon. Juanita was sick in bed. Janice went up to help, & then later Ann went. I made a cake & applesauce.

January 8, 1972

It was a sunshiny cold day. We went to Grace Johnson’s funeral. Then we went to see Dr. Feldstein about my foot. Karen & Tom came back from their honeymoon.

January 9, 1972

We attended Church at C. Creek. Merlin Groff was married last evening. Herbert called Roger Johnson on the telephone. Albert Smith came home.

January 10, 1972

It was a sunshiny nice day. We did the washing. Herbert went to F. Plain after groceries. I typed some for grange program. I called Bertha Smith on the telephone.

January 11, 1972

Herbert went to Johnstown to S&H redemption center. Then he called on Genie Christman and on Rev. Johnson & Kay. I did the ironing & mending. Keith R. wen to Grange Executive Comm. Meeting at Albany.

January 12, 1972

Margaret & Charles were here for supper. Pastor Clark & his wife were here in the evening. Luke came down with the “flu”.

January 13, 1972

Clyde Fitzer, Herbert & I went to Pomona Grange at Perth. Keith & Karen came late. Janice was ill & couldn’t go.

January 14, 1972

It was a sunshiny day. Herbert went up to get grange hall ready. He & Clyde Fitzer arranged the seats given by Oddfellows. We couldn’t have grange meeting as so many were sick with the flu.

January 15, 1972

It was a sunshiny cold day. A water pipe had broken in the barn. The reverse bend on barn cleaner broke. I cleaned a couple of drawers in the kitchen.

January 16, 1972

It was -4 degrees in morning. Sunshiny, but very cold; a strong wind from the west. Gordon Fasani and family went to church with us. Keith R. was ill & did not go.

January 17, 1972

It as sunny and much warmer. I wrote letters to Joanne & to the Dunns. Keith R. felt some better. In the evening he & Wayne worked on the car for Tom & Karen.

January 18, 1972

I made 2 pies. I wrote a letter to aunt Genevieve. Herbert went up to Keith’s & Juanita and to the grange hall. I got supper.

January 19, 1972

We attended the annual congregational meeting of C. C. Lutheran Church. We had a covered dish supper. It was held at Keiths & Juanitas. Very pleasant evening. Marion Groff went with us.

January 20, 1972

It started snowing in forenoon. They moved 8 heifers from the lower barn up to the barn here. We received letters from Gordon and Margaret Sager.

January 21, 1972

I made sugar cookies. Dr. Marsh called around noon & he suggested that I make an appointment with Dr. Carey at Cooperstown Hospital to see about my foot.

January 22, 1972

I sewed in forenoon. We went up & spent the afternoon with Margaret & Charles. We stayed for supper. Keith R. went to a conservation meeting at Albany.

January 23, 1972

We did the washing. I unpacked & washed the set of dishes (wheat design) which Herbert gave me for Christmas. Herbert helped Keith R. & Gordon at the barn.

January 24, 1972

I did the ironing. It was a windy, cold day, but not as strong a wind as forecasted. We watched the 1st 2 parts of the “Search for Source of the Nile” in the evening.

January 25, 1972

A cold sunshiny day. I started working on income tax. The men sold a heifer to Tony Rocko. I called Mae Bellinger on telephone. Herbert called Lester Mosher.

January 27, 1972

I worked on income tax in A. M. In P. M. we went up to Wm. & Mildred Threshers. We stayed for supper & played Pinochle. I had a letter from Alma Miller.

January 28, 1972

I worked on income tax. Madeliene was here. We were invited down to Janice’s & Keiths for dessert. Keith H and Juanita, Gordon & Laura were there. Tom & Karen were to leave next morning.

January 29, 1972

Ann & Janice took Tom & Karen to Lima to start school at the Elim Bible School. Ann & Janice got home at 8:30. They had a good trip.

January 30, 1972

We went to church. We invited Keith, Janice, Marta & Dean here for supper. We had a very good time. Ann went back to Plattsburg.

January 31, 1972

It was a nice sunshiny day, but quite cold. I wrote a letter to June Stoesser. Keith R attended a tax meeting at the grange hall. 59 were present.

February 1, 1972

Another sunshiny cold day. Keith Herbert went to inseminator school at Adams. I worked some on the scrapbooks I am making for Keith & Joanne.

February 2, 1972

Attended LCW meeting at Olga Beischers. Herbert went up to Mildred Threshers & got my cane which I had left there.

February 3, 1972

Herbert took me to the bank & to the hairdresser’s. Ethel H. called on the telephone. Keith H. got home from Adams 7:30. It snowed a lot in the night.

February 4, 1972

Schools were closed. The wind blew and drifted the snow. Madeliene walked down. Herbert & I did the washing. I wrote to Iva & Philip Wendell.

February 5, 1972

I did the ironing in the forenoon. The snow drifted the roads. Gordon Fasani came up in the evening & shoveled out our driveway. Herbert helped him.

February 6, 1972

We attended C. Creek Church. It was “Youth” Sunday. Kathleen Bellinger delivered the sermon, which she had prepared. It was very good. We then went after church to Ralph Groffs where they had a reception for Merlin and his bride.

February 7, 1972

It was a cold bright day. I made cookies in the forenoon. Herbert went to F. Plain after groceries in the P. M.

February 8, 1972

We got up 5:30 and at 7 we started for Cooperstown Hospital. Dr. Carey pared the bunion on my foot. We got home by 10:30 A. M. I wrote to Tom & Karen.

February 9, 1972

I wrote letter to Ann. Ruth Failing had a stroke during last night. Herbert went to church council meeting at Parsonage in evening.

February 10, 1972

Herbert went to the bank in F. Plain. In P. M. he & Lester Mosher went up to the church to work. Charles & Margaret called for a while. Keith R. came in to see them.

February 11, 1972

Madeliene came in P. M. We went to see to the grange meeting in the evening. Hazel Swanson stopped & brought us some cookies. A sunshiny cold day.

February 12, 1972

I wrote up grange news for the paper. I talked with Ann on the telephone. Her roommate came home with her. We had a long letter from Gertrude Lance.

February 13, 1972

We went to church at C. Creek. Gordon & Laura Fasani joined church & Mr. & Mrs. Peter Claus had their little girl baptized. It rained when we came home.

February 14, 1972

I made a new kind of cake & baked some squash to freeze Gordon Fasani was driving Keith H. truck home & went over the bank between Taylors & our house. Gordon was not hurt.

February 15, 1972

Ogden got the truck out with his tow truck. Keith R. got back from ADA meeting at Syracuse. I went to DAR meeting. Herbert went up to see Harold & Dorothy.

February 16, 1972

We attended the Ash Wed. Service at St. Johnsville. We had a letter from Tom & Karen. Herbert took Susie up to Little Falls in the morning.

February 17, 1972

Alta & Floyd Weaver were here for dinner. Herbert & I went up to Keith’s and Juanitas. I enjoyed seeing Luke play. Yvette Taylor was there.

February 18, 1972

I typed some in forenoon. Madeliene was here in P. M. I had birthday cards from Maloys, Genie Christman, Ethel Haig, Alma Miller & Josephine Lundgren.

February 19, 1972

It snowed some in the night & more in the day. Keith & Ann went to Fort Plain after groceries. The mail didn’t go.

February 20, 1972

A very cold day with a high wind. No church as roads were blocked. Herbert & I watched a long movie “The Song of Bernadette”. Etta, Marion, Janice & Keith R. called on telephone.

February 21, 1972

Janice, Keith, Ann, Marta & Dean came up in the evening. They brought a cake, homemade ice cream, book & other things. Joanne & family had a beautiful bouquet delivered.

February 22, 1972

When we got up in the morning, we found the furnace didn’t run. Toni Z. came & fixed it. We did the washing. Herbert went to C. Creek after Gordon. Keith R. went to Syracuse.

February 23, 1972

20 below zero. Water froze over by the pump but Keith Herbert came down & after a little while the water started to run. We attended Lenten Service at St. J. I had several more birthday cards.

February 24, 1972

I made sugar cookies in forenoon. Floyd Weaver was operated on in L. Falls Hospital. I wrote a letter to Tom & Karen. It was much warmer through the day.

February 25, 1972

We had grange meeting here. Lorie & Gordon Fasani were given their degrees. There were 12 adults & 3 children present. It was a mild, sunshiny day.

February 26, 1972

It snowed quite a lot. When Keith H. & Juanita were on way back from Cobleskill, some boys who were drunk stopped them in St. J. Keith H. was hurt.

February 27, 1972

A nice sunny day. We attended Communion Service at C. Creek Church. Cornelius Rish called up on the telephone.

February 28, 1972

I wrote up grange news. I wrote a long letter to Gertrude Lance. Ethel Haig told me Maud Swartz is in hospital. Keith Herbert stopped in a few minutes.

February 29, 1972

The heifers were sprayed here. Herbert, Lester Mosher and Ralph Groff went to Dolgeville to see about material to fix ceiling in church. I had letters from Ruth Burritt & Esther & Pete.


March

March 1, 1972

Herbert took me to LCW meeting at the parsonage and I came back with Janice. Herbert had a birthday card from Dottie Crouse. I wrote to Dottie & Sophie Wolenski.

March 2, 1972

I worked on preparing the grange program. Herbert had birthday & letter from Veba & Marion.

March 3, 1972

Madeliene was here. Herbert & I went to World Day of Prayer at St. J. Lutheran Church. We had letter from Karen & Tom.

March 4, 1972

It was a sunshiny cold day. Herbert went to F. Plain after groceries. We went up to see Alta & Floyd Weaver for a while in P. M.

March 5, 1972

We went to C. Creek to church service. Then we went to Jack & Jill Restaurant. I had invited Keith, Janice, Marta & Dean there for dinner to celebrate Herbert’s birthday on the 8th.

March 6, 1972

Hilda & Emmett came down for the day. We had a real good time. She started some knitting for me. We played Rack-O after dinner.

March 7, 1972

I knitted quite a little. Herbert went to St. J. after a bu. of apple. He had cards from Hazel & Leonard Swanson & Ethel Haig. Alma came home Sat. & I talked with her on the telephone.

March 8, 1972

Herbert’s 68th birthday. He received a nice lot of cards & several telephone calls. Keith R. stopped in a few minutes on his way home. Ruth Failing is now in Memorial Hospital.

March 9, 1972

I went to the hairdresser’s. Juanita and Luke called late in the afternoon & brought Herbert his birthday present. He had a card & letter from Joanne & family.

March 10, 1972

We had grange meeting here. 14 were present. Herbert went after Etta & Hilda. Janice was ill & couldn’t come. A cold night.

March 11, 1972

A sunshiny day. Herbert took me down to Study Class meeting at Marie Geeslers. It was a very interesting meeting. We took Ruth Sheffield home.

March 12, 1972

We attended church at Crum Creek. Then we came home. I talked on the telephone with Hazel Brown, Laura Claus & Alma Miller.

March 13, 1972

Herbert went to Gray’s Funeral Parlor in the evening to see the Bowerman family. Gifford Bowerman died yesterday. We did the washing. Carmita Mixter called on phone & said Ed is in a hospital in Florida & to be operated on tomorrow.

March 14, 1972

It snowed almost 5 inches. We listened to the Billy Graham program from Chicago. I did the ironing I wrote to the Thode twins.

March 15, 1972

It was a nice day. Keith R. plowed out the yard. Herbert & I cannot 7 qts. of applesauce. We had a letter from Iva & Leland Bellinger.

March 16, 1972

Herbert & Lester Mosher spent the day going around to ask people for contribution to repair the C. C. Church. I worked some on income tax; wrapped up money.

March 17, 1972

Robert Brown had to be taken to L. Falls Hospital. Herbert wrote to Joanne & I wrote to Helen Farndon, Robert Brown and Ann. It had rained a lot in the night. Madeliene was here.

March 18, 1972

Herbert & Lester went out again to collect money for church repair fund. Ann was home for the weekend. Keith Harvey & family were down to visit Keith & Janice.

March 19, 1972

Ann went back to Plattsburg. We went to C. Creek Church. It was a nice sunshiny day. Etta was sick with a cold & couldn’t come to church.

March 20, 1972

Keith R. and Gordon helped us move furniture out of the dining room. I put the dishes from 2 china closets on table in parlor. I wrote to Kate Smith & sent birthday card to Lena Burkdorf.

March 21, 1972

I washed dining room curtains & Herbert started taking paper off. Janice came in P. M. and helped with income tax. Herbert took me to D. A. R. He called on Carl Nellis.

March 22, 1972

I finished up the income tax forms ready to mail. Janice went with Mrs. Rowland to Cortland. Herbert & I attended the Lenten Service at the Lutheran Church.

March 23, 1972

I baked cookies, bran muffins & nut bread for the grange food sale tomorrow. In the afternoon Herbert & I went to F. Plain & bought a birthday present for Juanita.

March 24, 1972

We worked some more taking off paper in dining room. Herbert took out things to the food sale. Madeliene was here. Juanita called to thank us for present.

March 25, 1972

Herbert went to heifer auction. Keith H. and Janice bought 4. I wrote to Ruth Burritt. We took some more paper off of the dining room walls.

March 26, 1972

We attended C. Creek Church. It was Palm Sunday. Then we went after Ethel Haig & called on Alma Miller. Gertrude Lance phoned in the evening & we had a real pleasant visit.

March 27, 1972

Herbert took more paper off of the dining room & went to St. J. to buy some plastering tools. He stopped at Lena Burkdorfs & brought her scrap-book home for me to look at.

March 28, 1972

Herbert did some plastering & sizing in the dining-room. I copied quite a few articles from Lena Burkdorf’s scrap book. Keith R. went to Ithaca for Path of Life meeting and Grange Executive Committee.

March 29, 1972

We talked with Tom & Karen on the phone last evening. We worked on dining room in forenoon. In P. M. Mildred & Will Thresher and Nina Levensaler came. Then Margaret & Charles came and stayed for supper.

March 30, 1972

Herbert took me to the hairdresser’s in P. M. He went up to St. J. in the morning & got his hair cut. I sent Easter cards to Ruth Failing & Tracy Davis.

March 31, 1972

We painted in the forenoon in the dining-room. We attended Good Friday Service at the Grace Congregational church from 1-2:30 P. M.

April 1, 1972

We painted in the forenoon. In P. M. we were invited up to Keith’s & Juanita’s for Luke’s birthday. When we came from there we went to F. Plain & picked out paper for the dining room. Ira & Edith Timmerman called.

April 2, 1972

Easter Sunday! There were about 60 present. They had a choir. After church we went to a family dinner at Keith’s & Janice’s. We called at Greys Funeral Parlor. Nan Shults had died on Friday.

April 3, 1972

Karen & Tom came to say good-bye. Janice, Ann, Marta & Dean took them back to Lima. Herbert & I went down in P. M. to see Ruth Failing in Memorial Hospital at Amsterdam.

April 4, 1972

Herbert & I went to see Dr. Carey in the forenoon. Keith went down near New Paltz to get a silo unloader. We received invitation to Michael Casler’s wedding.

April 5, 1972

We got up early & did the washing. Herbert finished painting the dining-room. The men went after some hay to chop for bedding for the heifers. Herbert went to church council meeting.

April 6, 1972

We planned to go to “theme” meeting at Perth, but so much snow fell that it cancelled. Wm. Eyck & his wife called for a little while. Margaret called on phone.

April 7, 1972

Herbert went to F. Plain after the dining room paper. Madeliene was here to clean. I worked on grange program. Rev. Montgomery died suddenly last night. Ethel Handy & Hilda called on the telephone.

April 8, 1972

We heard tonight that Genie Christman is in the hospital. Herbert & I drove up to Ralph Groffs with our church envelopes & got groceries in St. J.

April 9, 1972

Herbert & I attended St. Johnsville church in the forenoon. Then Keith R. went with us to Cooperstown Hospital. Herbert was admitted. Keith drove home. Marta stayed all right with me.

April 10, 1972

Herbert had an operation on his “hammer” toe on his right foot. He called on the phone in P. M. & said he can come home tomorrow. Alma, Ethel & Reuben Failing called on the telephone.

April 11, 1972

Janice went after Herbert in the forenoon. Marta & Dean & I played games. It snowed very hard in the morning but it melted soon.

April 12, 1972

It was a nice sunshiny day. Herbert slept very well during the night. I made cookies & muffins after breakfast. Several called on the telephone.

April 13, 1972

Dean came up & stayed all night. I went with Keith, Janice, Laura & Emmett to Pomona grange at Sacandaga. In some reason I did not sleep at all that night.

April 14, 1972

Janice took Herbert to Cooperstown to have the doctor dress his foot. The regular grange meeting was held here in the evening. I slept that night!

April 15, 1972

Ruth Failing came home from the hospital. Herbert & I did not feel well all day. I managed to get dishes washed & things straightened out from the night before.

April 16, 1972

We went to C. Creek Church. After we were home, Margaret & Charles came down for a while. Genie Christman was operated on yesterday morning.

April 17, 1972

I finished knitting a bandage for lepers (project of some of L. C. W. members. I attended DAR meeting at St. J. Homemakers rooms in the High School. We had a letter from Marion Black.

April 18, 1972

Keith R. went to Albany. Janice took Ann to Cobleskill to get bus to Binghamton. Keith H. picked 2 loads of corn across the Thruway. Juanita & Luke were here in P. M.

April 19, 1972

I crocheted on cape, which I started yesterday. Herbert went to Cooperstown Hospital to have stitches taken out of his toe. It was a very rainy day.

April 20, 1972

I crocheted more. Madeliene was here. It was a nice day. I sent birthday card to Mildred Thresher. We received invitation to Susan’s baby shower.

April 21, 1972

I crocheted a lot. Herbert went to St. J. after groceries. Ivan Gray was here. Herbert & I went to the fritter supper at St. J. Lutheran Church.

April 22, 1972

We went to C. Creek Church. Then we were invited down to Keith’s & Janice’s for supper. Ann & Jack Carter were there.

April 23, 1972

We did the washing and I also did the ironing. Herbert went to the Farmers Banquet at the Masonic Temple. I talked with Bertha Smith & Ethel Haig.

April 24, 1972

I crocheted & mended. I cleaned one cupboard. We had letter from Tom & Karen. Keith R. went to School Board meeting. Then we & others of family went to Eastern meeting at Middleville.

April 25, 1972

We did the washing and I also did the ironing.

April 26, 1972

We went over to see Genie Christman at Gloversville Hospital. We stopped in at Swartz’s Funeral Parlor. Freddin Smith was dead. We ate our supper at F. P. Restaurant.

April 27, 1972

We attended Neighbor’s Night grange meeting at Perth. Clyde Fitzer went with us. We took my “walker” over for Genie Christman to use. I ironed for Janice.

April 28, 1972

We had an open community meeting sponsored by our grange. I made 2 cakes. Madeliene was here. Mildred & Will Thresher called.

April 29, 1972

Wm. Thresher papered the dining room. I went to the baby shower for Susan Handy at Janice’s at 2:00 o’clock. A very nice day.

April 30, 1972

We went to C. Creek Church. Then we called on Etta Allen, who was suffering from sciatic rheumatism. Lynne, Jennie & Florence Cronkhite called in the evening.

May 1, 1972

We went to L. Falls in forenoon and picked out carpet for the dining room. Herbert finished plowing the corn field across the Thruway. Letters from Wolenskis and Maloys.

May 2, 1972

We called at the Funeral Parlor at L. Falls where the baby of Beth Bowers & her husband was. Then we went to call on Margaret & Charles. Herbert went to combined council meeting of over Lutheran Churches.

May 3, 1972

Herbert took Mrs. Clark & me to LCW meeting at Hilda Moshers. I crocheted some in the forenoon & in the evening. It rained at times & made the grass grow.

May 4, 1972

Herbert went to Cooperstown Hospital to see Dr. Carey about his foot. I crocheted a lot on the cape I am trying to make. It was a rainy day.

May 5, 1972

We went to see Allen Samuels. In the P. M. I went to hairdressers. Alma Miller drove up with her new car. Herbert got us our supper. Leo Timmerman died in the night.

May 6, 1972

Mary Failing and I attended the 75th anniversary of the Study Class. A luncheon & meeting was held at the F. Plain DAR House.

May 7, 1972

We attended C. Creek Church. Then we called at the Funeral Parlor, where Leo Timmerman’s body was. His wife, Hazel, took it very hard. I talked with Etta & Ethel Haig on phone.

May 8, 1972

A very rainy day! Herbert & I didn’t feel well. Alma called on the phone.

May 9, 1972

The L. C. W. Spring Assembly was held in St. J. Lutheran Church. They went to Congregational Church for dinner. I only went to P. M. session.

May 10, 1972

A long letter from Ruth Burritt. It was a nice day and Herbert worked on the lawn & the garden. I finished crocheting the cape.

May 11, 1972

I worked on grange program & wrote some letters. I had a long letter from Ruth Burritt.

May 12, 1972

Madeliene came in the forenoon. We went about 7:00 P. M. to go to Grays Funeral Parlor. Russell Dillenbeck had died on Thurs. Then we went to Grange meeting. Letter from Ann.

May 13, 1972

Herbert & I started before 9 o’clock & went to Burnt Hills Episcopal Church to attend attend Michael Caslers and Susan Zillis’ wedding. Then we went to the reception in Schenectady.

May 14, 1972

It was Mothers Day. Janice & Keith gave me note-paper and Marta & Dean gave me box of petunias. We went to C. Creek to church. It was a rainy day.

May 15, 1972

We did the washing & I did part of the ironing. Herbert got a new lawn mower. Then later when he was using the riding mower, something broke in that.

May 16, 1972

I pressed and finished the white crocheted cape. I made an apple sauce cake. A hard thunder storm went around us. Herbert worked on the lawns & flower beds.

May 17, 1972

Herbert went to F. Plain after groceries, stamps and my medicine. I had gone to DAR meeting the previous evening.

May 18, 1972

I washed 2 sweaters. I cooked some rhubarb. Herbert & I drove up to Keith H. Juanita wasn’t home. He went down to the cemetery. Keith H. disced on piece on other side of Thruway.

May 19, 1972

A nice sunshiny day. Madeliene was here in P. M. Herbert, Clyde Fitzer & Mae Bellinger and I went to Neighbor Night at Mayfield. Laura & Emmett were there too.

May 20, 1972

A rainy day! We took some of my winter dresses up to Corso’s to get dry cleaned. I knitted some. I called Ruth Sheffield. Madeliene & Etta called me. Keith H. drilled in corn across the Thruway.

May 21, 1972

A nice day. We attended C. Creek Church Service. Then we hunted up the Marcy Grange Hall. From there we went up to see Veba & Marion.

May 22, 1972

It was a very nice day. Herbert mowed a lot of the lawn here. Then in P. M., he and Ann went to C. Creek & mowed the cemetery. I wrote letters to Joanne & Alice Moulton.

May 23, 1972

Ann & Juanita went after Karen & Tom. Keith R. went in late afternoon to Cortland to Grange Exec. Committee meeting. Alice Moulton was here a while.

May 24, 1972

It was a nice day. Herbert plowed. He finished the piece across the road & then did the one on the south side. Keith R. came back in P. M. Genie Christman came home from hospital last Sunday.

May 25, 1972

Herbert plowed most of the day. Ivan Gray & Mr. Monk were here to do some electric wiring. The men brought the carpet. Mary Failing came after me & we attended a dinner & social hr. at the Stone Lodge.

May 26, 1972

Bernard Hectas put down the carpet in dining room. Herbert & I went to F. Plain to sign deed of old place. We attended Grange meeting. Laura was 1st & Janice second in the coffee cake contest.

May 27, 1972

A nice sunshiny day. We took flowers to the Groff Cemetery & St. J. cemetery. Charles Seaman died last night. Susan is in Little Falls Hospital. Susan’s baby was stillborn.

We attended the service at 12:15 at Lulls. Pastor Clark preached a good message. Then we went to Fair View Cemetery to the burial. From there we went to C. Creek Church. In the evening we went to see Charles Seaman at the Smith Funeral Parlor.

A nice sunshiny hot day. Herbert plowed up on the hill. I washed some dishes & put them in china closet. I made a rhubarb pudding.

May 30, 1972

We went to Cooperstown Hospital in A. M. as I had appointment with Dr. Carey. Herbert planted a good shard of the garden.

Herbert moved the table back in the dining room & put up the pictures. I worked on grange program. Alma Miller & Mrs Rufenacht called in P. M. We attended the “Natural High” program at Elem. School.

It rained very hard and the roof leaked over my bedroom. Herbert mowed the church lawn in P. M. I washed some doilies & did some house cleaning.

Herbert & Madeliene cleaned the front porch. Herbert moved the plants out on the porch. I made cookies. Herbert mowed the cemetery again.

We went to Marcy Grange hall, Oneida Co. in the evening. Fulton Co. put on the program. Bad thunderstorms in the evening.

Lulu R, Juanita, Herbert & I went to “theme” meeting at Bleecker. Emmett, Laura & Clyde also went. We put on our half of the program & Sacandaga had a man show slides.

Ann went down to register at Nassau Community College. She stayed all night with the Goldsteins. Herbert took me to L. C. W. meeting at Laura Claus’s. Received a letter from Betty Minch Drummond.

June 8, 1972

We washed, but didn’t many clothes dry. The men planted corn back of Keith R’s house and part of her house. The men started to use the pipeline milkers. Ann got back home safely.

June 9, 1972

I finished the ironing. Madeliene came in the A. M. Keith H. and Tom helped Herbert fix the leak in the roof. We attended C. Creek grange meeting. The men drew some loads of feed for the cows off of the hill.

June 10, 1972

It was a very windy day. We had the furnace turned on to keep warm. I wrote up the grange news. The men drew 3 loads of haylage. They had the big truck to use which had needed fixing.

We attended C. Creek Church. It was communion. Then we called on Lena Burkdorf. It froze a little, but didn’t hurt the plants.

Wayne has to go June 27th into the service. The men planted one piece of corn and drew haylage with both trucks. Herbert drove all day. Marta rode her bicycle up to see me for a little while.

We went to school meeting in the evening. The budget was voted down. We had a letter from Kate Smith & graduation invitation from Larry Allen.

It was a nice day. We went to F. Plain in the morning to buy some gifts. Herbert drove the trucks after that. We received graduation invitation from Susan Klemme.

I washed & ironed the hall curtains. Marion Groff called in the P. M. We went to a family supper at Keith’s and Janices for Wayne’s birthday.

Madeliene came in the forenoon. In the evening we went to the Dairy Princess Contest & Banquet at Canajoharie. Keith & Janice were chairmen for the year.

I attended a bridal shower for Brenda Gilpen. It was a large attendance & she received beautiful gifts. Herbert mowed church & cemetery lawns.

We attended church at C. Creek. Service was at 11 0’clock. Then we went with Margaret & Charles to the Valmar for dinner (Father’s Day). Then we went for a ride.

A rainy day. I wrote to Nellie Lance and Flora Hunt. Alma Miller phoned & invited us to dinner on Sun. after church.

Keith went in P. M. to Exec. Committee of Grange meeting. Janice disced. Herbert, Keith H. and Gordon grew 8 loads of chopped hay.

Keith came back from Newark. Herbert & Keith H. got the flatiron piece of corn planted. Then it started to rain & it is still raining. Ethel Haig called on the telephone.

Windy & rainy. Bad storms in some places. Herbert took Janice to the dentist. He mowed lawn in front of grange. I made cookies.

Herbert washed windows on the outside on west side of house. He & Madeliene washed the windows in west bedroom. It rained a lot. I worked some on scrapbooks.

We went to the graduation party for Larry Allen at the C. Creek Grange hall. We had a nice time. Then we called on Reuben and Ruth Failing.

We went to C. Creek Church. Then we went to get Ruth Sheffield, Florence Bailey, and Ethel Haig and went to Alma Miller’s for dinner. Then at 5:00 we went to Susan Klemmes graduation party.

We did the washing & the clothes dried well. Susan went back to work in the Palatine Dyeing Plant. Keith R. went to Syracuse. Wayne went to Albany.

I did the ironing. Herbert mowed the lawn in A. M. and in afternoon helped the men draw chopped grass. It didn’t rain. I sent cards to Cliff, Carrie Trumbull & Lulu Robinson.

It was a beautiful day. The men drew 9 loads of haylage. I mended, wrote letters, baked, knitted and read.

Finished cutting alfalfa down here; 60 truck loads. Gladys & Lynn Sickler called. We received a long letter from Martha Dunn. I washed & ironed kitchen curtains.

Rained again. We went to school to vote second time on budget. Lost by 2 votes. Madeliene & Herbert washed windows & woodwork in kitchen.

Mrs. Zoller from Little Falls was here in the P. M. and I helped her with material for Carol Burkdorf to join DAR. Herbert mowed the Groff cemetery.

We went to C. Creek to Church. It was communion. Then we ate dinner at the Herkimer Diner. From there we went to see Wolanski’s. Sophie’s mother was buried yesterday.

Irving Klock was found dead.

Herbert helped at Crum Creek. In the evening we went to Gray’s Funeral Parlor, where Irvings body was. On the way home we came down the hill and saw where Wayne had been cutting brush.

Herbert went to get his eyes fitted by Dr. Glenn. He worked at C. Creek before he went & after he came back. John Richards was killed & his wife was hurt.

Juanita & Keith have a baby girl, Mary Kelly, born this afternoon. Herbert & I went up to the funeral parlor, where the body of John Richards was who was in a bad accident.

It was a sunny day. Herbert did not feel well & rested in P. M. Janice went to see Juanita & the baby. Mrs. Eden Lamphere died. It was a long day for me.

We went to church at Crum Creek. We went in the afternoon to see the baby. She is adorable. We visited a lot of other people that we knew who were sick in the hospital.

We did the washing and although it rained a lot, the clothes got dry in the P. M. I also did some typing. Herbert bought 2 new tires for our car & had the car inspected.

It was a real hot day. I made muffins for the sale; I did some mending. In P. M. Laura, Janice, Marta, Herbert & I cleaned grange hall. Juanita & the baby came home. We stopped to see them.

We attended Pomona Grange meeting at C. Creek. It was election of officers “bring & buy sale”. After 1 o’clock before we got home.

It was very hot. The men drew 12 or 14 loads of haylage. The large truck got on fire, but the men got it out.

A very hot day (88 degrees). The men put 14 trucks of haylage in the Harvestore. Ethel Handy and Alta called on the telephone. I pulled some weeds along the walk.

A very hot day. The men drew haylage. Keith R. went to Syracuse to a tax meeting. I finished cleaning weeds along the walk. George Cronkhite is in hospital with a heart attack.

Elton Johnson died last night. It was a hot day, but some breeze with it. The men finished haying above the road on the old place.

Mary Kelly was baptized. We ate at Jack & Jill Restaurant. We attended a meeting at the Lutheran Church. Very bad thunderstorms. No electricity when we got home.

A nice day. The chopper broke when they went over a woodchuck hole. So they only got 5 loads of haylage. I canned pickles. Hazel S. was here a while.

We attended the wedding of Elaine Kane & Tom Larkin. In the evening we went to reception for Alan & Brenda Bellinger at Ogdens in evening.

Keith R. had a very lame back & had to stay in bed for a few days. We attended service at Palatine Church. Then we went to Mechanicsville to see Philip & Joy Wendell.

Herbert & Keith H. finished the piece of haylage. Then it rained & Herbert came home. It rained hard here too for a while. I didn’t feel well and it was a hard day.

Herbert dragged in P. M. on the big lot on the old place. Keith H. cut down the alfalfa in the large lot next to E. Bowers. I had a short letter from Kate Smith.

We invited Ethel Haig up for dinner. Herbert got her at 11:30 & she stayed until 4. We played Racko & had a very pleasant time.

I called Cornelia Risk on the telephone. It was her 81st birthday. Herbert picked a lot of cucumbers. I canned 6 qts. of saccharine pickles & he gave the rest to Hazel Swanson.

It was a nice day. Herbert plowed up at Keith Herberts. Mrs Sidenius & Emma Timmerman called in the P. M. and she copied some geneology.

I wrote letters to Mildred Thresher and Betty Minch Drummond. The men put 16 loads of haylage in the Harvestore. It was a beautiful day.

We attended Union Service at the Methodist Church. Then we went up to see Harold & Dorothy & Ursula & stayed for dinner. Ed & Esther Creedon called for a while after we got home.

We did the washing. Herbert then went to Keith Herberts to plow. As it rained he came home about 3 o’clock. I did part of the ironing.

August 8, 1972

Harold Handy had his operation on his hip at Syracuse Medical Center. Herbert plowed most of the day at Keith Herbert’s. I finished the ironing.

Herbert took a beautiful bouquet of gladiolas up to Juanita & Keith as it was their wedding anniversary. Keith R., Keith H, Tom and Dean went to Empire Field Day.

Alma came up after cucumbers. Herbert worked in the garden. We went up to the funeral parlor at Dolgeville. The men baled some hay & put it in Keith Raymond’s barn.

We attended the intercounty theme meeting at the grange hall. Oneida Co. put on an excellent program. 74 were present. Janice presented a cake (made by Juanita) to Herbert & me for our 47th wedding anniversary.

We attended Union Service at Congregational Church at 10 o’clock. In the P. M. we went after Etta & then attended the church service at Youkers Bush. It was a beautiful sunshiny day.

A beautiful day. Herbert took me to see Dr. George at MJB Hospital. The men planted alfalfa on big meadow at East Creek. Keith H., Herbert & Gordon tried to chop hay. Two of the trucks broke down.

Someone stole the riding lawnmower, Herbert’s big clippers & tried to pry gas tanks open. Carlton & Dorothy Boslet called in P. M. We had a very nice visit.

It was a nice day. The men drew in 775 bales of second cutting. They got the Dodge chopper truck fixed. I made molasses cookies.

It was a rainy day. Karen & Tom stopped in for a little while. They were going to Jones, then to see Tom & Elaine Larkin & then to Elim Bible School.

A rainy day. I went to hair dresser. It cleared up by evening. We went to Pomona Grange at Perth. It was election of officers. Clyde Fitzer went with us. Ann started working at St. Marys Hospital at Amsterdam.

I made cookies in forenoon. Sinclair & Agnes Ward came about 1 o’clock. We visited for a while & then went for a ride. After they left I made another batch of cookies, for auction.

The auction at Caslers was a big success. The S & H Comm. made over $200 on the food they served there. The rain held off. The men drew 6 loads of haylage. Larry Allen was home over the weekend.

We attended C. Creek Church. Juanita took a snapshot of Mary & Herbert & me. Council meeting after church. It rained some while we were eating supper.

Showers at times. Herbert went up to old place & picked some apples & pears. He picked squash which had gone outside our garden. He took tomatoes to Hazel Swanson.

A very nice day. Keith R. was gone to Grange Exec. Comm. Keith R. & Herbert drew haylage for the Harvestore. Herbert & I went up to vote on school propositions. We drove to F. Plain & had an ice cream sundae.

Juanita, Luke & Mary spent the P. M. with me. Juanita & I made tomato juice for her & Keith. We had a very pleasant time working together. Luke talks a lot & knows many words.

The wind blew so hard that the men could not draw haylage. Herbert came home before noon. After supper we went up to see Margaret & Charles. We covered up plants, but it did not freeze.

Herbert left at 6:20 A. M. to go to Crum Creek to draw haylage. He was gone all day. It was a beautiful autumn day. I stayed home & got quite a lot of odd jobs done. Karen & Tom came home & helped for the weekend.

We attended C. Creek Church. Then we came home. Herbert drove and Ethel Haig & Alma Miller treated us to a delicious dinner at Christianas Restaurant at Newport.

We did the washing and I did part of the ironing. I talked with Janice, Etta and Ethel Haig on the telephone. Janice took Keith to Cobleskill to get a ride to the 6th degree meeting of State Grange.

It was a bright sunny day. Herbert helped Keith H. in P. M. Keith H didn’t feel well, as he had a bad cold. I did a lot of odd jobs.

A dark & windy day. I wrote up grange news in A. M. In P. M. Herbert and I went up to Lynn Cronkhites to visit for a couple of hours. Keith R came back from the grange trip.

Tracy Williams was baptized. She is the daughter of Robert & Katherine (Hayes) Williams. Herbert & I went for a ride after church & ate at Fosters. The scenery was beautiful.

The winrower broke & so by the time the men got it fixed, they didn’t get much haylage. I canned sweet apples which Bellingers had given us.

I wrote to Maloys. I went with Janice to LCW meeting at Mary Groffs. Herbert & I called at H. Smith Funeral Parlor. Mrs. Ralph Grainer was dead. Sunshiny day.

A beautiful sunshiny day. I made 3 pies in the A. M. Herbert took or checks to be cashed. Our S. Security was raised 20%. Keith H. went to Utica to have a wisdom tooth extracted. Herbert went to church council meeting.

Another sunshiny day. We washed the curtains from the bay windows. They dried very quickly. Herbert went to St. J. & Crum Creek to get some tires fixed & changed on machinery.

A very nice day. Herbert dug the gladiola bulbs & I cut off the tops. Madeliene cleaned the bay window. The men drew 2 loads of corn & put 1 of them in the silo here.

A very rainy and cloudy day. Herbert cracked butter nuts & I picked out the nut meats. Ann attended a Youth Grange meeting in Saratoga Co. and Keith R. went to speak there on evening.

We attended C. Creek Church. Then we took Pastor and Mrs. Clark to Newport for supper. We got them home in time to attend Luther League at 7:30. When we got home Rullers had been here. They gave us some vases of Genie Christmans.

Herbert worked on repotting plants & getting them in the house before frost. We went to call on Alta and Floyd in the evening. It was 28, coldest for this date since 1942.

The men drew 17 loads of corn & put it in the wood silo here. It was a sunshiny day. I made a big kettle of soup & froze part of it.

I washed & ironed the parlor curtains. I made sugar cookies. Hannah King and Evelyn Klock were here in the evening and we played Pinochle. The men put corn in silo.

It rained some. The men started another field of corn & got a few loads in our cement silo. I went to get my hair washed & set. Herbert & I played Scrabble for a while in the evening.

We attended installation of officers at C. Creek Grange in the evening. Madeliene was here and washed parlor windows & put up curtains in there.

Herbert & I went to C. Creek church to sweep up flies in morning. I wrote up account of grange installation for the paper. The corn chopper broke.

It was a windy sunny day. We attended C. Creek Church. Then we went for a ride and ate supper at Jack & Jill Restaurant.

Herbert & I went to Syracuse to get parts to fix the corn chopper. We left St. J. 9:22 and arrived home around 1 o’clock. We watched “The Lonely Doreymen of Portugal” on T. V. A very good educational show.

We did the washing. June Stoesser called & we had a good visit. Herbert went to Cobleskill to get more machinery parts. I attended DAR meeting. Mr. & Mrs. Robert Roland & Beulah Sanders brought me home.

Herbert plowed all day. Keith & Janice attended Ida Frederick’s funeral. She was an aunt of Janice. Cornelia Rick called me on the telephone. I worked most of the day. I made a butternut cake.

The men got the cornchopper repaired & they put 12 loads of corn in the silo. The man came from Niagara Mohawk Corp. & gave us check for right of power line to go across the old place. Bruce Litchfield, wife & baby called here.

Last evening we went to harvest supper at Inghams Mills. The men finished filling the 2 silos here. I cleaned the front porch and vacuumed upstairs. Madeliene was got to NY.

They chopped 20 loads of corn at C. Creek. I cleaned with the vacuum cleaner downstairs. I did more cleaning in 1 day than I had since I had the stroke. Madeliene could not come this week.

We attended C. Creek Church. Then we called on Bill Thresher and Margaret & Charles. Keith R. and Ann went to Syracuse for State Grange session.

October 23, 1972

We got up early, but it rained and the men could not work on the corn. I made up cakes and steamed apples. I started also working on grange program.

October 24, 1972

Alma & Ethel were here in P. M. We played Racko and they stayed for supper. It was a very dark day and it was too wet to work on corn.

October 25, 1972

The men drew 10 loads of corn. I talked with Alma & Ethel on the phone. It was a very dark day.

October 26, 1972

A beautiful day! The men got 18 loads of corn. I washed & ironed some of my summer dresses and did quite a lot of odd jobs. Nettie Failing phoned.

October 27, 1972

The men cut 17 loads of corn. We had grange meeting. Then Mr. Edgar Parkyns, a professor at Elim Bible Institute (a friend of Tom & Karen) came home & stayed all night with us.

October 28, 1972

A dark day with rain in P. M. The men drew 8 loads of corn. Mr. Parkyns was here for breakfast & dinner (at night). He was with Tom & Karen the rest of the time.

October 29, 1972

Turned clocks back on Standard Time. We attended C. Creek Church. There were 40 present. Mr Parkyns went to church with us & then Karen, Tom & he started for Lima. Charles & Margaret invited us to go to the Valmar for supper.

October 30, 1972

A rather dark, cold day. I tore up cloth & pressed it to make bed pads for the Lutheran Home at Clinton. I called Marion Groff on the telephone.

October 31, 1972

The men cut 14 loads of corn off of the north side of the road past our house. As it was Hallow’een, Ann & Susan, & then later Keith brought Dean & Marta for Tricks & Treats.


November

November 1, 1972

Herbert & I went to Cobleskill in P. M. to get a part for corn chopper. I wrote to Tom & Karen and to Leland & Iva Bellinger. We had thank-you note from Karen & Tom.

November 2, 1972

It was a dark, rainy day. Herbert went after groceries. I made corn bread and carrot cake. I wrote to Joanne & Gordon and wrote some checks.

November 3, 1972

The men drew 18 loads of corn. Madeliene was here to clean. Elmer Arnott came to call in the evening.

November 4, 1972

The men finished cutting corn down here. Herbert & I went to the ham supper at the Methodist Church. Lena Burkdorf & Bertha Flanders sat across the table from us.

November 5, 1972

We went to church. Jack & Keith R. rode up with us. Ann had to work. Later she & Jack came up. She showed us her diamond.

November 6, 1972

It was a sunshiny day. We did the washing & I ironed some. Wayne’s & Susan’s trailer was moved in today.

November 7, 1972

We went to vote in morning. We bought a shower gift for Ann. In the P. M. Herbert plowed and I went with Janice to the L. C.W. meeting at Alta’s.

November 8, 1972

It rained all night and day. I finished the ironing and mended. Herbert had winter tires put on the car. I talked with Hilda, Alta, Alma & Ethel on the telephone.

November 9, 1972

Clyde Fitzer, Juanita and Mary Kelly went with us to Pomona Grange at Mayfield. We didn’t got home until about 1:30 AM.

November 10, 1972

I did up the presents for Ann’s shower. Herbert took me to F. Plain to the hairdresser’s. He bought new shoes.

November 11, 1972

Herbert took Marion Groff, Alta, Hilda and me to attend the shower for Ann at the grange hall. She received useful and very nice presents. Herbert went over to see Harold and Dorothy.

November 12, 1972

We attended C. Creek church. I called Harriet Foss on the telephone & inquired about Lulu Robinson.

November 13, 1972

Herbert plowed in the P. M. The men put the heifers in the barn here. We had a letter from Larry Allen. I talked with Alta and Beulah Sanders on the phone. We ate lettuce out of our garden.

November 14, 1972

Herbert took me to keep my appointment with Dr. Carey at Cooperstown Hospital. There was a lot of snow on the roads, but we had the winter tires on the car.

November 15, 1972

17 inches of snow in Albany. Glad we didn’t have that much. Herbert went up to stay with Luke, while Keith H, Juanita & the baby went to see the doctor.

November 16, 1972

The men put 5 loads of corn in the “Harvestore” in the afternoon. I wrote some letters and made 2 bedpads for the Lutheran Home project.

November 17, 1972

The men drew 6 loads of corn. Ann, Janice & Susan went to Binghamton to a shower for Ann. Dottie Crouse called on the phone. We received invitation to Ann’s & Jack’s wedding.

November 18, 1972

Alma Miller came up in the P. M. We had thank-you note from Ann for shower presents. I knitted quite a lot. The men put 17 loads of corn in the Harvestore.

November 19, 1972

We attended C. Creek Church. In the evening Keith R., Janice, Dean & Marta came up to visit. It snowed to snow while they were here. Joanne called on the phone.

November 20, 1972

It didn’t storm as was predicted. The day was cloudy. I ironed for Janice I sent get-well cards to Lillian Burkdorf & Isabella Smith.

November 21, 1972

I worked on grange program. I had a Thanksgiving card & letter from Ruth Burritt. I attended DAR meeting at St. J.

November 22, 1972

The men finished chopping the corn on the piece across from the house Ann, Marta and Janice took me up to the Union Service at St. J. Lutheran Church.

November 23, 1972

Thanksgiving Day! Margaret, Charles, Herbert & I ate dinner at Sarno’s Restaurant. Ruth Failing called and said Elizabeth Failing had died.

November 24, 1972

It was a cloudy day. The men worked on the barn cleaners and ground feed. Bob Goldstein and 3 other men stopped in to visit in the evening. Alma & Ethel stopped also for a few minutes.

November 25, 1972

The men drew corn off of the piece next to Christman farm. Madeliene couldn’t come, so I did part of the cleaning. Ruth Failing called on telephone.

November 26, 1972

We attended C. Creek Church. Then we went to Alta & Floyd’s 45th wedding anniversary. From there we went to the Advent Service at the St. J. Lutheran Church.

November 27, 1972

We attended the L. C. W. Thank offering meeting at the St. J. Lutheran Church. Marguerita Hayes fell early this morning & broke her leg. Herbert & I did the washing & I ironed some.

November 28, 1972

I finished the ironing and mended. I wrote 3 letters. I called Nettie Failing on the telephone; also Alta, Hazel Brown and Hilda. Keith R. bought a new suit. It snowed in the P. M.

November 29, 1972

I wrote cards & letters in forenoon. Herbert took me for hair appointment at 1:00. Then we did some Christmas shopping.

November 30, 1972

Herbert put up the new mailbox. He went to St. J. to get the car washed & cleaned. It started snowing hard in early afternoon. Robert Brown came home from the hospital.

December 1, 1972

Joanne, Gordon, Alyson & Jeffrey came about 5:15. Herbert had been up to Keith Herberts to help butcher a cow. Janice, Ann & Jack got the church ready for the wedding.

December 2, 1972

Ann & Jack’s wedding day. A beautiful day. They were married at noon at C. Creek Lutheran Church. Reception was put on in the basement of Congregational Church in St. J. They went to Holiday Inn in Binghamton.

December 3, 1972

Joanne’s left for home at 11 AM. Wm. Eick and his wife and baby Tod called here for a little while. Then we went to C. C. to church. From there we went to Keith & Janice’s, as Janice had invited her mother & us there for supper.

December 4, 1972

It snowed a lot and turned to sleet in the evening. Herbert went to the bank in forenoon. We read in the paper that Mrs. Youker died (mother of Mildred Gray).

December 5, 1972

A cloudy day. I wrote cards & letters. Janice took Susan to L. Falls Hospital for x-ray. Ann called down home & said she & Jack were on way to Florida to see his grandmother.

December 6, 1972

A very cloudy and at times rainy day. I wrapped a few Christmas presents & wrote more cards & letters. Ethel Haig called on the telephone.

December 7, 1972

A cold sunshiny day. I wrote cards and letters. Juanita invited us up for Christmas. Wayne came in for a few minutes. Marion Groff called on the phone. I called Marguerite Hayes.

December 8, 1972

It was a snowy day. Herbert went to St. J. in the forenoon & then took Gordon, Marta & Dean up to help milk. In the evening we watched on TV “The Waltons” in “Homecoming”.

December 9, 1972

I ironed some for Janice in A. M. Then Marta and Dean came up for dinner & stayed until Janice came from work. We had a good time. Keith R. just blew the horn on his way back from Ithaca.

December 10, 1972

We went to C. Creek to church service. Keith R, Walter, and Mae Bellinger rode with us. We watched “Bing Crosby” Christmas Show. Foggy day; not very cold.

December 11, 1972

Herbert took me up to Christmas meeting of Community Club and King’s Daughters. Then after he came back after me, we went to 5 & 10c store and then to supper at Grace Church.

December 12, 1972

Herbert & I went shopping at F. Plain in the A. M. I wrapped presents, did some ironing and mending and wrote some cards in P. M.

December 13, 1972

I prepared grange program. Herbert took Susan to dentist. Herbert & I fixed the dining room table for Fri. night. I talked with Hazel Brown, Lulu, Ethel H. and Helen Miller.

December 14, 1972

Ann & Jack got back to Keith’s about 5:30. It was a sunshiny day. I got things ready for grange meeting tomorrow night. Herbert & I played Racko in the evening.

December 15, 1972

I got already for grange meeting and then it was called off in account of snow, ice and sleet. Madeliene was here to clean. We had letter from Agnes Ward, saying Sinclair is in Bassett Hospital.

December 16, 1972

It was a very stormy day with wind & drifting snow. I wrote more cards and letters. The mailman went & we had quite a lot of letters & cards.

December 17, 1972

Very cold day, but sunny. Keith R. plowed out our yard. So we were able to get out to go to church. 17 were there.

December 18, 1972

A group came from St. J. Church & sang carols for us. Marion Settle was with them. I made a loaf of apple bread and made apple sauce.

December 19, 1972

We went to F. Plain shopping in A. M. In the afternoon I wrapped up Christmas presents. We read in the paper that Eva Williams died yesterday.

December 20, 1972

We did the washing. Janice, Herbert & I worked on getting invitations to Janice’s & Keith’s 25th wedding anniversary ready to mail. Ethel Handy fell on the ice and broke he leg.

December 21, 1972

I finished the ironing. Herbert went after more cards & stamp. We attended Eva’s funeral. Then we went to L. Falls Hospital to see Ethel Handy. Cornelius Risk died yesterday morning.

December 22, 1972

Madeliene was here. I wrote more cards. We called Agnes Ward and Sinclair is still in the hospital. It was a rainy day. Jack & Ann came home in the night.

December 23, 1972

I baked some & did various odd jobs. I called Hilda, Ruth Failing & Alta on the phone. Ann & Jack spent a couple of hrs. with us in the evening.

December 24, 1972

We went to C. Creek to church in P. M. Then we had Reuben & Ruth Failing here for supper. We attended the Christmas Eve service at St. J. from 11-12 P. M.

December 25, 1972

About 12:30 we went up to Keith Herbert’s and Juanitas. We were invited there for Christmas dinner. Keith, Janice, Dean, Marta, Tom & Karen, Walter and Harold Putnam were there. We had a very good time.

December 26, 1972

We went to Dolgeville to Funeral Home. Ross Johnson had died Sun. night. Then we went to call on Margaret & Charles. The previous evening Herbert called Seymour & Katy Handy in Florida.

December 27, 1972

Last night the men drew 13 loads of corn from across the Thruway. We had a nice letter from Flora Hunt. A cold night – down to 8 above zero. Herbert phoned to Joanne and she said they were not coming up this weekend.

December 28, 1972

Herbert took me to the hairdressers. After dinner he went to grange hall to help Juanita. Then he came home and about 7:30 he went to the grange hall again.

December 29, 1972

Herbert worked at the grange hall most of the day & late at night, getting the hall cleaned & ready for the anniversary the next night.

December 30, 1972

The 25th wedding anniversary of Keith & Janice was celebrated at the grange hall from 3:00 to 9 P. M. Over 100 people were present. We had an enjoyable time and it was a very nice affair.

December 31, 1972

We attended Church Service at C. Creek. Then we came home. I started putting together a jigsaw puzzle. Keith R. talked with dad on the phone in evening. I also called Beulah Sanders.
