January 1, 1973

We went down to Keith’s a little while in P. M. to see the presents. Keith Herbert & family were there. It was a mild sunny day. We worked some on jigsaw puzzle.

January 2, 1973

Herbert took me up to L. C. W. meeting at Marion Groffs. Then he went to the hospital to see Ethel Handy. In the evening we worked on jigsaw puzzle. Janice had a letter from Ann.

January 3, 1973

Herbert went after groceries in P. M. I wrote letter to Joanne. Received a letter from Alma. A nice sunshiny day, 30. We worked a little on the puzzle.

January 4, 1973

I made apple bread and oatmeal cookies in the forenoon. Herbert went after groceries.

January 5, 1973

We got ready for grange meeting. It was held here in the evening. Juanita fell on the ice in our driveway and hurt her back. She & Keith H, Luke & Mary K. left early.

January 6, 1973

It was a sunshiny, cold day. I wrote up the grange notices for the papers. Herbert & I finished putting together the jigsaw puzzle (made from Sallman’s ‘painting’ of Christ.

January 7, 1973

Weather report from Albany said temp. was -1 with the wind factor of -40. Sunshiny. We went to church. It was communion. I wrote to Jack & Ann, and Karen & Tom.

January 8, 1973

-6 degrees temp. here in the morning. It was a sunshiny day. I knitted some, wrote & some checks. We started another jig saw puzzle & got the outside edge together. Keith went to Albany.

January 9, 1973

Herbert took me to Cooperstown Hospital to see Dr. Carey. Then we ate in the cafeteria. We then were able to visit. Sinclair Ward. Mr Clare’s father was brought in to the same room with him.

January 10, 1973

At 3 A. M. Herbert discovered that the furnace wasn’t running. He phoned Thomas Z. who came & got it going. In the forenoon we did the washing. I ironing some.

January 11, 1973

Herbert, Clyde Fitzer & I went to Pomona Grange meeting at Charles Edwards. Keith & Janice came later. We had a very good time.

January 12, 1973

Madeliene was here. Keith H. flew to Pa. on business. I did odd jobs. I was very tired as I didn’t sleep well when I got home the previous night. Letter from Lois Winchester.

January 13, 1973

I wrote letters to Philip & Iva and Ira Solomon & his wife. We worked quite a little on the puzzle. I knitted some. Herbert said temp. went to 44 today.

January 14, 1973

We went to C. Creek to church. Then we went to see Ethel Handy at the Hospital. Margaret & Charles were there. So when we left the hospital the 4 of us went to eat supper at Jack Frost Restaurant.

January 15, 1973

I felt better than usual and it seemed so good. I wrote some letters. I finished knitting a bandage & started another one. Herbert called Marion G. and she has been ill.

January 16, 1973

We finished the puzzle “A Winter Landscape”. I baked squash, made applesauce and apple pudding. I had a letter from Alma Miller. A warm day, 60 in sun.

January 17, 1973

I wrote to Margaret Sager. Hazel Swanson brought us apples, cookies & date bread. We attended the C. Creek Church annual meeting at Keith’s & Juanita’s. Mae Bellinger went with us.

January 18, 1973

Another nice warm day. I ironed for Janice in the forenoon. Herbert went to the auction near Little Falls on route 5. He got me 2 books from the library.

January 19, 1973

Herbert went to F. Plain Bank. We bought some grange bonds. Madeliene was here. I knitted and read. It rained near evening.

January 20, 1973

We had a letter from Leland & Iva Bellinger. I made 2 pumpkin pies and a cherry pie. We watched the inauguration of President Nixon (on TV). It was a cold day.

January 21, 1973

We attended C. Creek Church in P. M. and Union Service at the Reformed Church in the evening. It was a beautiful sunshiny day.

January 22, 1973

It was cloudy & rainy. Herbert took Janice to work as her car wouldn’t start. I knitted and read quite a lot. I wrote some checks & worked some on grange program.

January 23, 1973

Lyndon Baines Johnson died yesterday of a heart attack. He was the 36th President of the U. S. and he was 64 years old. In the evening Pres. Nixon spoke for 10 min. and said an agreement had been signed to end the Vietnam War.

January 24, 1973

We watched when L. Johnson’s body was brought to the Capitol at Washington. We listened when Mr. Kissinger explained the points of the treaty to end the Vietnam War.

January 25, 1973

L. Johnson was buried at his Texas Ranch. Herbert took me to the hairdressers in the P. M. I wrote a letter to Alma Miller. It was a beautiful warm sunshiny day.

January 26, 1973

It was a nice day. Madeliene came to clean. We had a letter from Ann & Jack. We had grange meeting here in the evening.

January 27, 1973

U. S. is now out of the Vietnam War. I started working some on income tax. We received a picture from Hazel Brown, taken of Alta & Floyd, Herbert & me at Weavers 45th wedding anniversary.

January 28, 1973

We attended the Youth Service at C. Creek church. Then we went to L. Falls Hospital to see Ethel Handy. We ate supper at Jack Frost Restaurant. It snowed in the night.

January 29, 1973

Tom & Karen went back to school. Herbert & I did the washing and we tried the Best-Line Laundry detergent. We liked it. I wrote up the grange notices for the papers.

January 30, 1973

I did the ironing. Herbert went after groceries. He went down to Swansons to pay a bill. I called Ruth Failing on the telephone.

January 31, 1973

I worked on income tax. Herbert went to Fonda for Keith. It was a sunny, but cold day. George Moyer died. Etta called on the telephone.

February 1, 1973

It was cold in A. M. in the house. Herbert finally thought perhaps the furnace needed new filters. When he put in new ones, it worked all right. We went to Lulls Funeral Parlor.

February 2, 1973

I made sugar cookies and apple sauce. Madeliene was here in P. M. We had a letter from Karen & Tom. School was closed because of icy roads in the morning.

February 3, 1973

I wrote to Ann and Catherine Burke. Herbert & I went to card party at the American Legion Hall in F. Plain. Herbert won 2 prizes. We had a good time.

February 4, 1973

We attended C. Creek Church. It was communion. Ruth Failing had another stroke 2 o’clock this morning.

February 5, 1973

Edward Davis died this morning. We had a letter from the Maloys. I talked with Ethel Haig on the phone. Herbert took our checks to the bank.

February 6, 1973

I read essays for DAR contest in forenoon. In afternoon Herbert took me to L. C. W. meeting at Marlis Bowers’. In the evening he went to council meeting at Ralph Groff’s.

February 7, 1973

I ironed for Janice in the forenoon. Keith R. went to meeting at Syracuse & is to stay until tomorrow. We went up to Lull Funeral Parlor in P. M. Edward Davis, Lyman Martin and Howard Steinbrough were all dead.

February 8, 1973

Keith R. got back from Syracuse. Janice didn’t go to work. She took Marta & Dean to see Dr. Muller. I wrote to Maloys & Ruth Goldsmith. I called Marguerite Hayes on the telephone.

February 9, 1973

A sunshiny day. Madeliene was here. We had a Valentine from Ann & Jack. We were invited down to George Berners for dessert & the evening to play Pinochle.

February 10, 1973

We went to Fort Plain in P. M. I bought some valentines, and Herbert got my medicine & some groceries. Janice went to work today. Mr Ardort died.

February 11, 1973

We attended Crum Creek Church Service. Then we went to Swartz’s Funeral Parlor to see the Ardorts. Keith R. went to Las Vegas by airplane. Janice & Dean & Marta took him to Albany Airport.

February 12, 1973

We did the washing & got the clothes dried in the house. I wrote some letters & cards. Agnes Ward phoned & said Sinclair died last Friday. We are not going to the funeral tomorrow.

February 13, 1973

Another sunshiny day. I did the ironing, made chocolate cookies, & wrote more cards & letters.

February 14, 1973

We went for dinner & the PM to Hilda & Emmett Moshers. At midnight Janice & Herbert were down at Albany Airport to get Keith R. The flight had been cancelled. So they came back home.

February 15, 1973

Keith R. got a flight from Chicago to Syracuse. Then he came by bus to Fonda, where Janice met him this morning. Keith R, Marta & Walter stopped on the way back from C. Creek. They brought down valentines from Juanita, Keith & family.

February 16, 1973

I ironed some for Janice. Madeliene was here. I crocheted quite a little. We had letters from Lois Winchester and Marion Black.

February 17, 1973

Ann & Jack arrived down at Keiths at 2 A. M. Donald Streed came with them. I went to Study class at Mrs Hanifins. Had letters from Josephine & Harold Lundgren & Alma Miller.

February 18, 1973

We went to church. Then we went down to Keith & Janice’s for supper. Keith H. and Juanita went out to see Alan & Brenda Bellinger.

February 19, 1973

Judy Mosher & Marta came up in the forenoon. We played Scrabble for a couple of hrs. I talked with Etta and Reuben Failing on the phone. Herbert called Norbert Nassell.

February 20, 1973

I attended DAR meeting. Herbert went up to see Harold & Dorothy Handy. I had more birthday cards. Alta & Marion Groff & Ethel Haig called me on the telephone.

February 21, 1973

Herbert & I went to Herkimer & Little Falls in the afternoon. We saw Ethel Handy, Mary Snell and Debra Suits & baby at the hospital. Harold Settle’s dairy barn burned the previous night.

February 22, 1973

I went to F. Plain & had a “permanent”. It was a nice day. Herbert went to an auction. We watched TV in the evening.

February 23, 1973

Madeliene was here. The men drew hay. Walter Warner came up in the evening to play “Scrabble’.

February 24, 1973

It was a sunshiny day. Alta & Marion Groff came to call in the P. M. I started making some aprons in the forenoon. Gordon & Joanne sent me the book “The Valentine & its Origins” for my birthday.

February 25, 1973

We attended C. Creek Church. Then we called on Lena Burkdorf. Dick Hyde & his wife were there too. We ate at the Jack & Jill Restaurant. Walter was up here in the evening to watch TV.

February 26, 1973

We did the washing and I did the ironing also. It was a sunshiny day. Herbert talked on the phone with Margaret Holl, Reuben Failing and Janice.

February 27, 1973

A nice sunshiny day. We had letter from Larry Allen, Ruth Burritt, and Flora Hunt. I ironed some for Janice.

I finished the ironing. I did some mending. I wrote a letter to Jane Schaetzel. We had a letter from Karen & Tom.

March 1, 1973

A beautiful warm, sunshiny day. We took George & Ida Berner out to supper at Cristiano’s Restaurant in Poland. I started preparing grange program.

March 2, 1973

Madeliene was here to clean. Herbert & I attended World Day of Prayer at the Reformed Church. He called at Lulls Funeral Parlor. Mrs Milton Bolster had died.

March 3, 1973

Tom & Karen came home last night. Herbert had birthday card & letter from Veba and Marion. We stopped to take Ida & George Werner to card party at Legion Hall.

March 4, 1973

We went to C. Creek Church. Keith & Juanita took Karen & Tom back to school after church service. Karen’s car has to be repaired.

March 5, 1973

I made dessert for tomorrow. Herbert went to Fonda for the boys. We went to F. Plain in P. M. Herbert went to the bank & I went to buy some artificial flowers. Herbert had card from Maloys.

March 6, 1973

The L. C. W. met here. There were 11 of us. Hilda led the lesson. Keith R. went to Ithaca to Exec. Comm. meeting of the grange. It was a warm day between 50 and 60 degrees.

March 7, 1973

A nice day. Keith H. had a wisdom tooth extracted. Keith R. got back from Ithaca. We attended Ash Wed. Service at St. J. We called at Smiths Funeral Parlor and talked with Margaret Holl.

March 8, 1973

It was Herbert’s 69th birthday. Margaret & Charles were here for dinner. Janice & Marta brought bulbs as Herbert’s birthday present. He had a nice lot of cards.

March 9, 1973

We attended the grange meeting at Crum Creek. Mrs. Fitzer is in the hospital. I made sugar cookies in the forenoon. Madeliene was here. A beautiful day!!

March 10, 1973

Another nice day. I wrote up the grange news. Keith R. went to Bainbridge. Settles had a bee to clean up after their barn fire. I called Alta on the telephone.

March 11, 1973

We attended C. Creek Church. The Moshers (descendants of Lucinda & Leonard) came to church. 1 side of the church was filled with them.

March 12, 1973

It was a rainy day. I worked on the aprons I am making. Last evening Herbert called Doris Handy and Reuben Failing & I called Helen Failing.

March 13, 1973

Herbert took me to see Dr. Carey at Cooperstown. Ralph Showerman died last night. Janice told me on the telephone that Jack Carter’s grandmother died last Thurs.

March 14, 1973

Roland Brown died last night & Ralph Showerman the night before. We had letters from Jane Schaetzel and Ellen Solomon. We attended Lenten Service at St. Pauls Lutheran Church.

March 15, 1973

Jennie Cronkhite died last night. We went to Grays and Swartz’s Funeral Parlors. We called on Ethel Haig. We had letters from the Maloys and Alberta Koch.

March 16, 1973

A sunshiny nice day. Madeliene was here. Herbert & I went to visit with the Cronkhites, who were at Swartz’s Funeral Parlor. Jennie had died of heart trouble.

March 17, 1973

Wayne got back from Pa. last night & worked today. I wrote letter to Margaret Sager. It rained quite a lot. Keith & Janice went down to Funeral Parlor.

March 18, 1973

We attended C. Creek Church Service. Then we went to L. Falls Hospital to visit Ethel Handy and Mary Snell. We then ate at Jack Frost. We watched “The Red Pony” on T. V.

March 19, 1973

We went to Fultonville in P. M. Then we stopped to see Kate Smith. We had done the washing in the A. M. Janice was sick with her back and stayed on bed.

March 20, 1973

Herbert took me up to DAR meeting at the High School in the evening. We sent a card to Ada Davy, who is in Little Falls Hospital. We had a note from Martha Hillegas. She broke one of her ribs 2 weeks ago.

March 21, 1973

I called Etta, Mary Failing, Ethel Haig & Martha Hillegas on the phone. We attended the Lenten Service at St. J. I wrote to Ruth Burritt.

March 22, 1973

Herbert took me to F. Plain to the hairdressers. He went over to visit with Bart Jonkes. Mr Zoppia, a retired Herkimer teacher that I know, called in P. M.

March 23, 1973

In the evening we went after Alma Miller & Ella Harper & took them to the Study Class card party. We had a good time. Madeliene was here.

March 24, 1973

We went up to Dolgeville in the afternoon to see Margaret & Charles, but they were not at home. I then went to see Nina but she was not home either.

March 25, 1973

We attended C. Creek Church. Peter Claus, Jr. was baptized. Mrs. Bride played the organ as Janice wasn’t able to go. We attended a band concert at F. Plain School.

March 26, 1973

I made oatmeal cookies & sent some down to Janice. I talked with Ethel Haig on the telephone. I sewed some in the afternoon.

March 27, 1973

Marjorie Lee and Nina were down for the afternoon until about 7:45. We had a nice time. We had a letter from Hazel Swanson. A nice sunshiny day.

March 28, 1973

Janice came up in the forenoon and we worked on income tax. Then I also worked on them all P. M. and finished both the federal and state. We went to Lenten Service at night.

March 29, 1973

I finished the 2 aprons & pressed them. Karen & Tom stopped in the forenoon to see us before they went back to Lima. I worked on grange program. We went after Janice as she worked at Pennysaver today.

March 30, 1973

When we got to the grange hall, the furnace had stopped. So we had the meeting at Bellingers and had a nice time. Tom & Karen went to N. Y. City.

March 31, 1973

Grace Lighthall stopped to visit. She & Keith R. attended a grange meeting at Syracuse. We were invited up to Keith H. and Juanita’s for birthday supper for Luke. He was 2 yrs. old. Keith R & Janice & Marta, Dean & Walter were there.

We attended church service at C. Creek. Then we went for a ride & ate at Jack Frost Restaurant. A rainy day.

April 2, 1973

It rained all day and night. I wrote a letter to Ann & cards to Ruth Failing and Ada Davy. We did the washing. I called Mrs. Hillegas on the phone.

April 3, 1973

I did the ironing in A. M. Herbert took me to LCW at Olga Beischers in P. M. Then he went to call on David Looman & Bucky & Betty Nelson. He went to church council meeting at home of David Hayes.

April 4, 1973

A very rainy day. Herbert went to the back. I mended & embroidered some. We did not attend the Lenten Service on account of so much water & rain.

April 5, 1973

It didn’t rain much today, but it was cloudy and dark. I sent birthday card to Jane Schaetzel. Lena Burkdorf called on the telephone.

April 6, 1973

I suddenly came down with a very bad bladder infection. I started taking sulfa pills. Hazel & Leonard Swanson came back from Florida.

April 7, 1973

Susan and two of her sisters called here in the afternoon. Wayne was working on the big tractor out in the barn. Herbert went to F. Plain after groceries & medicine for me.

April 8, 1973

Herbert went to church. I was not well enough to go. We watched “Wizard of Oz” on TV in the evening.

April 9, 1973

I wrote letter to the Maloys & sent card to Mable McCrone. Herbert attended the Farmers Night banquet at F. Plain Masonic Temple.

April 10, 1973

It snowed some, but then melted. I called Hazel Swanson on the phone. They got back from Florida on Sat. night.

April 11, 1973

I finished the 3rd apron. Then I washed out a few things & ironed them. Herbert went to Lenten Service in evening. He also called at Smiths Funeral Home to see Reva Reese Allgood. Her husband had died April 7.

April 12, 1973

Etta & Clyde Fitzer went with us to Pomona Grange at Perth. There were 34 present. It was a very nice day and a nice night to ride.

April 13, 1973

Madeliene was here in P. M. I went to Community Club in St. J. There were only 5 present. We made plans to disband and what to do with the money.

April 14, 1973

We went to St. J. to do some shopping. Later in the P. M., Herbert went to call on Carl Nellis. Maude Swartz died yesterday.

April 15, 1973

A beautiful warm day. We went to Crum Creek Church. There were 50 present. We took Keith H, Juanita, Luke & Mary Kelly to Valmar Hotel for supper.

April 16, 1973

Another beautiful warm day. We did the washing and they dried fast out on the line.

April 17, 1973

Another nice day. Janice & Keith went after the man from India. I attended DAR meeting at St. J. We had a letter from Ruth Burritt.

April 18, 1973

Herbert talked with Ethel Handy and Reuben Failing on the phone. He rotavated part of the garden. I sent birthday cards to Etta Allen & Nettie Failing.

April 19, 1973

I worked quite a lot on making bedpads. Herbert went to Church Service and communion at St. J. Lutheran Church. We had letters from Karen & Tom, Iva & Leland, & Larry Allen.

April 20, 1973

We attended Good Friday Union Service at St. J. Lutheran Church. In the evening we were invited down to Janice’s & Keiths for a birthday supper for Ann. She & Jack came up the night before.

April 21, 1973

Herbert didn’t feel well & didn’t get up until noon. In the afternoon I didn’t feel well either. We had an Easter card from Jane Schaetzel.

April 22, 1973

Herbert didn’t feel well enough to go to church. Keith R. took me. There were over 70 at C. Creek Service.

April 23, 1973

Herbert mowed part of the lawn. Emmett came down to see Herbert. Then they went ot Fultonville to get Walter at the bus station, Keith took the man from India to Albany Airport.

April 24, 1973

Herbert & Emmett worked at the grange hall in forenoon. In afternoon he worked on lawn & garden. I called Alta on the telephone and also phoned to ask about Lottie Handy.

April 25, 1973

Herbert & I worked at cleaning up the grange hall in the forenoon. Herbert worked in the garden & went after groceries in the P. M.

April 26, 1973

Herbert & Mae B. worked some at the grange hall. I made cancer pads in P. M. I wrote birthday letters to Joanne & Mae Chase. Keith R. plowed at the other farm.

April 27, 1973

Neighbor Night meeting was at Crum Creek. Mayfield & Sacandaga put on the program. 28 were present. It was a rainy day.

April 28, 1973

A rainy day. The men opened the cement silo in the P. M. I wrote up the grange news. I made 3 cancer pads in the P. M. Herbert called Reuben Failing in the evening.

April 29, 1973

We attended C. Creek Church. Alan Frederick Thode was baptized. We went to call on Ethel Handy in St. J. Then we ate supper at the Jack & Jill Restaurant. Keith & Juanita went to see her grandfather Bradbury.

April 30, 1973

We washed the curtains from upstairs front bedroom. Herbert went to Fonda for the men. I worked in getting music arranged for grange program.


May

May 1, 1973

I ironed the curtains. Herbert plowed. In P. M. I went with Janice to LCW meeting at Etta Allens. We had a long letter from Mae Chase.

May 2, 1973

I went for hair appointment. Herbert plowed. I tore up cloth to make cancer pads. I made bran muffins for supper.

May 3, 1973

I wrote to Mae Chase & Millicent Vosburgh. Herbert went to plow, but then it started to pour, so he came home. It was a very rainy day.

May 4, 1973

Madeliene & Herbert cleaned the windows in east front bedroom. He did the trimming on the lawn. We went to call on Alta & Floyd Weaver in the evening.

May 5, 1973

We did the washing and I also did the ironing & mending. Herbert plowed in the afternoon. It rained some by spells & was rather cold.

May 6, 1973

We attended C. Creek Church. Then we rode to Scotch Church Grange Hall. On the way back we ate at the Jack Frost Restaurant. A nice sunny day.

May 7, 1973

They brought Ruth Failing to the Canajoharie Nursing Home. Herbert helped drag at Keith Herbert’s from 5 PM. Keith H. had been discing. They went to plant the piece tomorrow.

May 8, 1973

Keith H. got the corn planted in field opposite his house. Herbert took me to see Dr. Carey at Cooperstown. Rev. Clark called in the P. M. It rained in mid afternoon.

May 9, 1973

Alma Miller came to call in the P. M. Herbert went to joint council meeting at Starkville.

May 10, 1973

Margaret & Charles came in the afternoon. Herbert took Keith R. to Herkimer. A thunder storm in the late P. M. and evening.

May 11, 1973

Another rainy day with thunder storms. Madeliene was here. Herbert brought in some rhubarb. I worked on bed pads.

May 12, 1973

We went to Neighbor Night meeting at Scotch Church grange in Schenectady Co. There were 34 present from Fulton Co. & 34 from Schenectady Co.

May 13, 1973

We attended Crum Creek Church. Then we ate at the Herkimer Diner. From there we went to see Judd & Mae Chase. Janice came up when we got home & brought me petunias.

May 14, 1973

It was a nice day. Herbert & Keith R. mowed the church & grange lawn. Herbert set out 4 rose bushes on the lawn. Keith H. disced down here on the piece along the road.

May 15, 1973

Herbert mowed part of the cemetery. I made cookies in forenoon, I worked on bed pads. It rained very hard. I went to DAR meeting. Beulah Sanders & Mrs Roland went with us.

May 16, 1973

I went with Janice, Marge & Alta to the LCW meeting at Fryes Bush Church. K. Herbert planted corn in the evening. Keith R. went to give a talk at Berne Grange.

May 17, 1973

Herbert finished plowing the piece across the Thruway. In the afternoon & evening it poured again. We played dominoes in the evening.

May 18, 1973

Rainy day!! There was snow several places in N. Y. State. Madeliene was here. Thelma Johnson called for a little while. I started knitting another bandage.

May 19, 1973

Margaret & Charles came in P. M. and brought material for bed pads. Rev Clark also brought me supplies. Herbert bought an electric lawn clippers for $20.

May 20, 1973

Another very rainy day! We went to C. Creek to church service. Then we ate supper at the Jack & Jill Restaurant. Herbert called Reuben Failing on the phone.

May 21, 1973

Clyde & Etta went with Herbert & me to grange meeting at Sacandaga, (40 present). A rainy day, but nice in the evening.

May 22, 1973

We did the washing & I ironed some of the clothes. Alta called in the evening. She had been down to see Janice. We had a letter from Alice Carlson.

May 23, 1973

Wayne was operated on for appendicitis. Herbert & I mopped the grange hall floor. Keith H. disced field across the Thruway, and in the night he planted the corn.

May 24, 1973

Another nice day. Herbert mowed the grange yard. In the evening we went up to see Wayne. Susan & Pastor Clark were there also. We had 50th wedding anniversary invitation for Arthur & Mabel Cane.

May 25, 1973

Another nice day. Herbert planted the garden. Madeliene was here. Keith R and Keith H planted more corn.

May 26, 1973

The Otsego Co. grange put on a very good program at C. Creek Grange with about 120 present. It went off very well. Keith R. had also been to corner laying of Grange Bldg. at Cortland with Mr & Mrs. Rowland.

May 27, 1973

We attended church at C. Creek. Then we put flowers on the 2 cemeteries. After that we ate supper at Jack & Jill Restaurant. Wayne was better.

May 28, 1973

Ann arrived at bus stop at Fultonville. Janice took her to get registration for truck which she & Jack had bought. She left on 3 o’clock bus to go back. Wayne came home from hospital.

Herbert & Keith R. fixed fence. Herbert said they could see the corn rows in piece by the road. A very bad thundershower in P. M. Dairy Princess Banquet was held. Susan Klemme won.

It rained again. We went up to see Laura Claus in P. M. Tom & Karen came back to Keiths & Juanitas last night. Herbert mowed our lawn.

It rained again. Herbert mowed the church lawn. Keith R. cut down 2 pieces of grass at C. Creek. Keith R. and Janice went to a milk meeting at Newport.

A very nice day. The men started chopping at Keith Herberts. We had a letter from Flora Hunt. I talked with Ethel Haig and Bertha Smith on the telephone.

June 3, 1973

We attended C. Creek Church. Tom & Karen conducted the service. Margaret & Charles came to church. Then we took them to the Jack & Jill Restaurant. Herbert & I went to see Lynn & Florence Cronkhite.

June 4, 1973

It rained last night. Herbert planted 2 rose bushes & a row of gladiolas. I wrote letters to Margaret Sager and Leland & Iva. Herbert wrote to Larry Allen.

June 5, 1973

Herbert planted the tomatoes. A very bad thunderstorm. I went with Janice to the L. C. W. meeting at Hilda Moshers.

June 6, 1973

Herbert set out the petunias & planted marigolds; He mowed the lawn. I rode to Fultonville with Herbert I canned 2 qts. of rhubarb.

June 7, 1973

Viola Bellinger died yesterday in Potsdam Hospital. Herbert plowed all P. M. at C. Creek. It was a nice sunshiny day.

Dottie Crouse spent the day with us and we had a good time. We attended C. Creek Grange. Baking contest were held.

We attended Viola Bellingers funeral. We also called on Susan. Wayne was asleep. Glenn Harris stopped in to visit in the evening.

A beautiful Sunday. Communion & Children’s Day were held at C. Creek Church. Then we went for a ride & ate at Jack Frost Restaurant.

We did the washing. Juanita, Karen, Luke & Mary Kelly came down to see me. I did the ironing in P. M. It was a hot, but beautiful summer day.

Herbert took me to hairdresser. A bad thunderstorm in P. M. We went to the grange hall & to Ralph Groffs. Ethel Haig called on the phone.

It rained in the forenoon, cleared off in P. M. We drove up to call on Margaret & Charles. I reviewed grange program. Herbert put the plants in front porch.

Etta, Mae, Karen, Clyde Fitzer, Herbert & I went to them grange meeting at Perth. C. Creek put on the program. It was a beautiful day & evening.

It was Wayne’s 21st birthday. Fred, Lina & Eva Thode called here in P. M. Herbert helped at Keith Herberts. They planted corn across from the barn.

Herbert & I went to Gloversville to attend the 50th anniversary of Arthur & Mabel Case. It was held at the First Methodist Church. We had a good time.

We attended C. Creek Church service at 11:00. Then we went to Fosters for dinner. From there we went to visit with Fancher Schuyler. Eleanor was not at home.

June 18, 1973

A rainy day. Herbert went to garage to get license put on car. Keiths family attended a church service at Utica. A speaker from Elim Bible School was there.

June 19, 1973

It was nice in P. M. I received a letter from Ruth Burritt. I went with Betty Triumphs & Beulah Sanders to Tri-Chapter meeting of DAR at Fort Plain. Lilah Klemme & Minnie Bradley called after I got home.

Keith went to Ithaca. Ann & Jack came home. Had letter from Margaret Sager. Herbert helped draw some hay. Herbert didn’t feel well.

June 21, 1973

Herbert didn’t feel much better. He didn’t help draw hay. We went to St. J. to get some groceries. Ethel Haig called on the telephone. Palmer Houghton stopped in to visit a while.

June 22, 1973

Fasanis left for their new place near Cobleskill. We were invited down to Keith’s & Janice’s for a family get together in the evening. Jack & Ann are going down to his folks tomorrow.

This was Alta’s 73rd birthday. The men drew in all the hay that was cut. I worked on the scrapbooks for Keith & Joanne. A beautiful day.

Marta was 10 yrs old today. We attended C. Creek Church. We ate at Jack & Jill. Later in P. M. we went to graduation “open house” for Richard Clark. Then we called on Ethel Handy.

Lena Burkdorf phoned & said Alma Burkdorf Seeley died yesterday. Rachel Horn called here in P. M. We had a very good visit. It was a sunshiny day.

I finished the ironing. Herbert took me down to see Ethel Haig in the afternoon. It was a pleasant warm day. Keith R. mowed down a lot of hay.

It was a nice day. Herbert & Keith H. drew 6 large trucks of haylage. I worked on my scrapbooks. Keith R. cut down alfalfa at the old place.

The men drew some hay, after they fixed the big truck. Alma & Ethel were here in the afternoon. I wrote letter to Lois Winchester. Leland Young died yesterday.

We went to grange meeting in the evening. Herbert went to Herkimer & on the way back he stopped & visited with Ira & Edith Timmerman.

It rained early in the morning & in late afternoon. I worked on geneology & wrote up grange news. Marion called me on the telephone.

We attended C. Creek Church. Then about 3:00 we went up to Curt & Loretto Lockners & got home 9:00. Keith, Janice, Marta & Dean went to Elim Bible School.

Walter came up in the evening & played dominoes. Herbert worked a lot on his garden. I washed & ironed some dresses.

We went to Cooperstown Hospital to see Dr. Carey. After lunch Herbert took me up to L. C. W. meeting at Etta’s. The men drew some hay from the old place.

Herbert worked at C. Creek all day. I knitted & worked on scrap books. Gertrude Lance called me on the phone. It was very hot & humid.

The men drew 10 truck loads of haylage for the Harvestore silo. I typed geneology for G. Lance. A beautiful clay.

I wrote letter to G. Lance. Madeliene was here. I made a cake. I washed one dress and ironed it & pressed another. Another nice sunshiny day.

We did the washing. Herbert went to C. Creek after dinner to help with the haying. I went with Janice, Marta & Dean to hear Beverly Rebeler talk.

Juanita, Luke & Mary Kelly were here in the afternoon. They brought us a blackcap pie. Later in the afternoon Marta & Dean were here. I served ice cream & cookies to the callers.

We attended C. Creek Church Service. Then we ate dinner with Alta & Floyd. Alta went with us to see Iva & Philip Wendell. We had a nice visit. In P. M. Bertha Burkdorf took Herbert & me & Mae Bellinger to Henry Rowlands grange picnic.

Toni was here to fix the furnace. I worked on hospital pads. The men drew haylage. A beautiful day!

We canned 7 qts of string beans. Janice & Karen, Marta & Dean picked beans for Keith’s family. The men drew haylage from the old place in the forenoon.

I went for hair appointment. In P. M. I canned 6 qts of pickles & snipped beans for Janice. The men drew haylage at the other place.

We attended service at the Palatine Church. Keith, Janice & Dean took Marta to Path of Life Camp in P. M. We went up to Dolgeville & Charles & Margaret treated us to dinner at the Valmar Hotel.

A nice sunshiny day. Herbert plowed all day at C. Creek. Keith R & Dean stopped in here late in P. M. They played a game of dominoes. Keith’s neck was bothering him again.

I worked on geneology scrapbooks in the forenoon. The men drew in baled hay. I made some more hospital pads. Janice froze beet greens. I read some in the afternoon.

Herbert picked the cucumbers & then we called up Emmett & Hilda & asked them if they could use the cucumbers. They came down. We took them to Jack & Jill Restaurant for supper. Then we went home & played Pinochle.

August 3, 1973

Janice & Keith had a farewell party for Ann on their lawn. We had a nice time. Bob Goldstein & another boy from N. Y. City were there.

August 4, 1973

Ann flew to Germany! Janice, Marta & Dean took her to the Albany Airport. Alta was here for a visit in the afternoon.

We attended Methodist Church at St. J. Then we went to Franklin to have dinner with Agnes Ward. We also called on Flora Hunt. Walter & Brian came up to play dominoes.

We did the washing. Herbert helped with the hay. I finished one of the long, knitted bandages. I also did a lot of the ironing.

August 7, 1973

I finished the ironing. I helped Janice snip beans in afternoon. I started another long cancer bandage. Keith H., Juanita, Walter, Dean & Marta went to Dryden. The babies stayed with Mrs. Jones.

Herbert took me down to Ethel Haigs after dinner. Then he came back there in time for a 5 o’clock supper. We had a very nice time. Had letter from Leland & Iva Bellinger.

We had letter from the Maloys. Keith & Juanita started on their vacation. The children stayed with Juanita's parents. Herbert disced at C. Creek.

August 10, 1973

Herbert went to C. Creek to pick stones in P. M. but the rain made the men go home. Judging contest for livestock in 4-H was held at the Klemme farms. Alma called on the phone.

Herbert stayed home in A. M. Then he went to C. Creek to help pick stones, but he came home as it rained up there. Lloyd Handy died yesterday at Albany Medical Center.

We attended Congregational church in St. J. Then after dinner we attended a meeting at Snells Bush Church. Then we took Margaret & Charles to Avery’s Inn.

Herbert helped the boys pick stone in P. M. In the evening we went to the funeral parlor in Dolgeville to see Lloyd Handy’s relatives. It was a beautiful day.

Hazel Swanson came after cucumbers. Lottie Handy called on the telephone. Keith R. & Herbert worked on old place in P. M. I ironed for Janice.

Janice had heard from Ann. We were very glad to get an address. It was Walters birthday. Nine men came to look over the Handy farms.

I wrote a letter to Ann & Jack & sent a wedding anniversary card to Nettie & Chester Failing. We received an anniversary card from Charles & Loretta Maloy.

Herbert worked at C. Creek in P. M. I worked on the scrapbooks. Madeliene didn’t feel well enough to work here today. Mickey in back working for the men.

Herbert worked at C. Creek. It rained up there in P. M. We had cards from Ann, Marion Groff & Etta. Madeliene was here. Ethel & Ida Salesman called on phone.

Our 48th wedding anniversary. We attended St. J. Reformed Church in A. M. We were invited to Alta’s for dinner. Then we went to Youkers Bush Church. We went to Dolgeville & saw Margaret & Charles.

Anniversary card from Ann. We washed & I did part of the ironing. Etta called on the phone. Keith H. cut down hay for haylage on Groff farm.

Herbert, Alma Miller & I went to the Cobleskill Fair. George & Ida Berner gave us tickets to go. It was Senior Citizens Day. We had a very good time. Myron Florian played his accordion.

Herbert helped at C. Creek. Nettie Failing telephoned. We had anniversary card from Wolanski’s & card from Margaret & Charles Edwards. Juanita & children were here a little while.

We attended the reunion service at Snells Bush Church at 11 o’clock. The set of flags and communion service were dedicated. Herbert & I ate at Herkimer.

We started about 6 o’clock for Cortland. We visited the new Grange Headquarters Bldg. We ate dinner in Cortland. Then we went to Marjorie Lees to stay all night.

August 28, 1973

This morning we left Nichols at 7:30 AM. We went to Hershey, Pa and stayed all night at a hotel near York. We played Pitch in the evening.

August 29, 1973

We ate where we had had our supper. Then we drove to try to find some peach orchards. We bought peaches & pears at Paradise Orchards, East Berlin, Pa. We arrived home 3:30.

August 30, 1973

We left Marjorie’s about 8 AM. We went to Sidney center, Delhi, Roxbury, & then arrived home about 5 P. M. We had surely enjoyed our trip of 1000 miles.

I canned peaches & froze some. I cooked tomatoes to make tomato juice in the morning. Gordon Allen had an auto accident. Madeliene was here.

We made tomato juice. Keith R. went to a grange meeting. The men finished the haying here. I wrote a letter to the Maloys. Gordon Allen came home from hospital.

We attended St. Johnsville Lutheran Church. Then we ate at Herkimer Diner. Then we went to see Esther & Pete & then to see Shirley Fero.

We did the washing & part of the ironing. I canned 8 qts of pears. Herbert defrosted the refrigerator freezer. It was a very hot hay, but a busy one.

Hazel Swanson brought me some cloth for bed pads. I made cake for grange. We attended grange meeting. We elected officers. Hilda went with us.

I went with Keith R. to Pomona Grange at Hallsville. Keith R. was the speaker & then he did very well. Herbert went to Syracuse with Pastor Clark.

Herbert went to the auction of Howard Barnes, C. Creek. For supper Herbert went up to Methodist Church & got chicken barbecue for us & brought it home.

We went to C. Creek church. Then we went to see the Wolanski family at Frankfort. We ate supper in L. Falls. Then we went to a youth meeting at St. Johnsville Lutheran Church. We also called on F. Cronkhite & L. Penney.

I ironed for Janice in the forenoon. Herbert didn’t feel well in A. M. In P. M. we picked tomatoes & onions. I called Alta on phone. It was Floyd Weaver’s birthday.

I went with Janice to L. C. W. at the grange hall. Mae Bellinger was the hostess. Herbert went in the evening to a meeting with Pastor Clark at Amsterdam.

Margaret & Charles came in P. M. After they left, Seymour phoned & said Aunt Genevieve is in a coma. It was a nice day.

The men started filling silo here at home. In the evening we went to Pomona Grange meeting at C. Creek. 15 were present. We had a bring & buy sale.

Aunt Genevieve Handy died this morning at 6:30 A. M. Seymour called here and told us about the funeral arrangements. Herbert & I went to St. J. after groceries.

Joanne and Jeffrey came up in the P. M. Herbert & I called in evening at Gray’s Funeral Parlor, where Ruth Failing’s body is. Her funeral is on Monday.

We went to C. Creek to church. Then we came home & before long Robert Farndon, Earl & Amorita Ohlson and Lynne Calvert came. We ate at Jack & Jill Restaurant & then went to Lull’s Funeral Parlor.

We attended Aunt Genevieve Handy’s funeral service. She was buried at West St. Johnsville Cemetery. A lot of relatives came here for dinner. Bob, Amorita, Lynne & Earl went to New Rochelle.

Joanne & Jeffrey went home in the morning. Herbert took me up to DAR at 5:30. I was on the committee.

September 19, 1973

We did the washing & some of the ironing. Keith went to Exec. Committee Meeting at Cortland. Amorita called on the phone. The men filled silo.

The men filled silo. A heifer got a gash in her back in the barnyard. We went to a card party at Cathetackne Grange in the evening.

A beautiful day. The men filled silo here. Madeliene was here. She cleaned the bay window. I went to hairdresser. Etta phoned & invited us to supper next Wed.

Keith H. & Juanita and Tom & Karen attended a wedding at Cassville. We washed & ironed the bay window curtains. We talked with Florence Cronkhite & Reuben Failing on the telephone.

We attended church at C. Creek. Then we went after Charles & Margaret and drove to Chittenango to see Libbie & John Call. Mary & Irving Porter were there also.

We didn’t do the washing. It rained off & on all day. They poured cement where the new Harvestore silo is to be built. Herbert was gone all day trying to get things needed at the old place.

Herbert & I started taking off the paper in small bedroom. Margaret & Charles were here in P. M. Had letter from Lois Winchester. A nice sunshiny day.

We took off more paper. Then Herbert helped draw corn. At 5:00 PM we took Beulah Sanders up to Etta Allens, where we had been invited for supper.

A beautiful day! The men accomplished a lot with the corn. I did a lot of work. I ironed some for Janice. I wrapped money to take to the bank.

Madeliene was here to clean. Herbert helped the men with the corn at C. Creek. We went to Grange installation & had a good time. A nice day.

Herbert worked with the corn. Then in the evening we took some furniture up to Charles & Margaret’s to refinish. I lost the key & we had trouble getting into our house.

We went to C. Creek to church. Then we had trouble with our car. We went with Keith & Juanita to program of music at St. Marks Lutheran church in Canajoharie.

Carl Nellis (74) died this morning; also George Leavitt died. Had letter from Amorita. Irene Dillenbeck called on the telephone. A very nice day!

October 2, 1973

I went to LCW with Janice at home of Olga Beischer. Herbert finished taking off plaster in small bedroom. We had a nice letter from Bob & Helen Farndon.

October 3, 1973

Herbert finished plastering the small bedroom. I talked with Bertha Flanders on the phone. Herbert called Bill Thresher about papering for us. It rained part of the day.

October 4, 1973

Herbert & I worked on getting the bedroom & back hall ready for painting. In the evening we went to Dolgeville to see Justice of Peace as Herbert had gotten a ticket for speeding.

October 5, 1973

It rained very hard, but cleared up in afternoon. Herbert & I painted in forenoon. Alma Miller came up in P. M. We had a letter from Ann & Jack.

October 6, 1973

We worked taking off more paper in the upper hall. I also painted some. Karen & Tom, Keith, and Mr. & Mrs. Jones worked on the old house at C. Creek.

We attended C. Creek Church. It was communion. We then drove up to se Nina but she was not home. Then we went to Averys & had dinner. The autumn scenery was gorgeous.

The men drew 23 loads of corn. Another gorgeous day! Harriet Davis is home from the hospital & called me on the telephone.

October 9, 1973

Margaret & Charles came down with the refinished desk. Herbert & the men cut 29 truckloads of chopped corn. I wrote a letter to Jane Schaetzel. A gorgeous day!

Herbert took off more paper in the hall. We went to the movie “Time to Run,” sponsored by Billy Graham. It was good. Margaret & Charles came down in P. M. with the chiffonier.

Herbert helped the men draw haylage to C. Creek to put in the Harvestore silo. I painted more in the back hall.

We attended grange meeting at Crum Creek. I had a bring & buy sale for lecturer’s fund. Etta did not feel well enough to go. Madeliene was here.

Herbert finished painting in the back hall. We went to Fort Plain in P. M. and bought the paper for the hall and bedroom. I wrote several cards & letters.

We attended church at C. Creek. Then we went down to L. Falls Hospital to see Lena Burkdorf & James Bellinger. We went to a restaurant for supper & then went to call on Carlsons.

We did the washing and I ironed some. Tony came to work on the furnace & he finally got it going. I rode up to St. J. when Herbert went after Dean.

Mrs Helmer Carlson & Catherine Sticht came to call in P. M. We had a real good visit. I went to DAR meeting at the home of Mr & Mrs. Bradbury, St. J. R. D. 2.

I went with Janice to Fall Assembly at Amsterdam Trinity Church. Herbert & I went to supper at Fryesbush Church. Clarence Gray died yesterday. Susan & Wayne had baby girl this morning. She weighed 7 ½ pounds.

Herbert went to Little Falls to get some plow shears for the boys at C. Creek. In the afternoon he went up to the old place & helped Keith H. and Tom for a while.

Herbert attended Clarence Gray’s funeral. I got my hair washed. Then we went to see Susan & her baby girl, who is adorable. Then we went to Harold Handy’s and stayed for supper.

Herbert spent a good share of the day at the auction at the grange hall, put on by the Kim-Double Club of St. J. Church. I attended the Study Class meeting at Marie Alter’s in P. M.

Herbert plowed all day. I typed some geneology, made more bed pads and finished a long cancer bandage. Herbert talked with Susan. She & the baby are fine & are at home.

October 26, 1973

Another beautiful day! Keith & Janice returned from State Grange. Keith is no longer state overseer. Madeliene was here. Dean stopped after school & we played dominoes.

October 27, 1973

The men finished filling the harvest store silo. Herbert took some cookies I had made, up to the bake sale. I sewed quite a lot. Nice, but rather cold, day.

October 28, 1973

We went to C. Creek Church. Then we got Alta & went up to see Iva & Philip Wendell. It was a nice time to go & we had a good visit.

October 29, 1973

Herbert fixed the buckets and stanchions in our barn. We did the washing & I did part of the ironing. A very windy night!

October 30, 1973

The men put the 53 head of young stock in our barn. I rode with Herbert up beyond L. Falls to get some plow repairs. We ate supper at the Jack & Jill.

October 31, 1973

Harold & Dorothy and Margaret & Charles went with us to pancake supper at Starkville. After we got home, Janice & Juanita brought the children for “tricks & treats.”

November 1, 1973

Herbert helped me get together the double wedding ring quilt which I pieced a long time ago. So I spent the forenoon quilting. I am so glad I have it so that I can work on it.

November 2, 1973

I really didn’t start quilting until today. It was fun. Madeliene was here. Herbert plowed. Ethel Haig called on the telephone.

November 3, 1973

A very stormy & rainy day. We went to Methodist Church beef supper at the Masonic Temple. Marion Groff phoned & said Earl Beard had died of a stroke.

November 4, 1973

We attended Crum Creek Church. It was communion. Then we went to the Valmar Hotel in Dolgeville. Charles treated Harold & Dorothy, Herbert & me, and Margaret in honor of her birthday.

November 5, 1973

The Harvestore silo was delivered at Keith Herbert’s this morning. I sewed on bed pads and on my quilt. Herbert plowed the corner piece on hill back of our house.

November 6, 1973

We went to F. Plain to vote. Then Reuben Failing came & he went with us to the chicken & biscuit dinner at the St. J. Lutheran Church. Janice caught her hand in her mixer & had to go to the doctor.

November 7, 1973

I went with Janice to L. C. W. meeting at Mary Groffs in P. M. There were 7 present.

November 8, 1973

Clyde Fitzer and Juanita went with Herbert and me to Pomona Grange at Perth. It snowed a little, but was nice on the way home.

November 9, 1973

Madeliene came to clean. Herbert took me to the hairdressers to get a “permanent.” Ethel Reese had an operation on her toe at Gloversville Hospital.

November 10, 1973

We got up 5 AM and left for Amorita & Earl Ohlsons at 6:30. We arrived there about 3:30. It was a good trip & the weather was nice.

November 11, 1973

A beautiful sunshiny day. We attended the St. Luke’s Methodist Church at Bryn Mar, where Earl & Lynne attend. In the evening Herbert called Keith on the phone.

November 12, 1973

About 10:30 Earl & Amorita took us over to Richard & Lynne’s house at Medford, N. J. They have a beautiful house & it is beautifully furnished.

November 13, 1973

We started home at 8:AM & reached home about 3:15. We had a good trip & it was nice warm weather all day. The trip was 1, 625 miles, counting both ways. The way back was shorter then the one going.

November 14, 1973

We washed. Herbert went up to take the old furnace out at the old place. I worked on grange program. It was a beautiful day!

November 15, 1973

Alta & Floyd stopped in. It was a dark, rainy day. Herbert went up to old place to cut brush. We were surprised in the evening when Mr. Mowry called to say he would be here to paper in the morning.

November 16, 1973

Henry Whaler papered all day for us. Madeliene took Jack to hospital. We went to Grange in the evening. Lulu & Etta went with us.

November 17, 1973

Dark, cold day. Madeliene came. Herbert went to see Dr. Feldstein, who says he has “sugar” and must go on a diet. I wrote up the grange news for the paper.

November 18, 1973

We attended Youth Thanksgiving Service at Crum Creek Church. Then we went to see Margaret & Charles. We went to Union Service at Grace Congregational Church. Father DeCerbo preached.

November 19, 1973

We attended Ada Gray’s funeral. Mr. Whaler finished the papering. The boys worked on fixing the barn cleaner. Keith H thinks he has found where he can buy corn.

November 20, 1973

A nice day. Herbert & I washed & waxed bedroom & hall floors. We put part of the furniture back. I went to DAR meeting. We took Mable Newman & Freida Crouse home.

November 21, 1973

We scrubbed & waxed the back stairs. We got more furniture put back where it belonged. Herbert went to old place at C. Creek to fix some more windows.

November 22, 1973

We went to Janice’s & Keith’s for Thanksgiving Dinner. Keith H & Wayne & families were there; also Perry & Harold Putnam. We watched TV show “Fair Lady” at home.

November 23, 1973

Madeliene came & housecleaned the dining room. Bill & Pat Eyck came up to Keith Herberts. Bob Goldstein were up at the old place to hunt. A nice day.

November 24, 1973

Herbert went up to old place in P. M. to shut up some more holes to keep cold air out. There were several hunters up there. I quilted some in P. M. and made some more bed pads.

November 25, 1973

The Eycks came to see us in forenoon. We went to C. Creek to church. Then we went to see Lena Burkdorf in the Palatine Nursing Home. We ate at the “Jack & Jill”.

November 26, 1973

We did the washing. I went to see Dr. Feldstein. He says I am allergic to something. Then we went to L. Falls Hospital to see Florence Cronkhite and Harriet Davis.

November 27, 1973

I wrote cards. In the evening we attended L. C. W. meeting at the St. J. Church. It was Crum Creeks turn to entertain. Rev. Ziegenfass was the speaker.

November 28, 1973

It was a dark day. I wrote Christmas cards, mended and quilted. We had a card from Amorita. Helen & Bob were down there for Thanksgiving.

November 30, 1973

We had the grange meeting here tonight. There were 9 present and we had a good time. Madeliene was here to clean.

December 1, 1973

We went to Bethlehem Grange to a Regional Conference a few miles below Albany. About 75 were present & we had a good time. We reached home about 10:15 P. M.

December 2, 1973

We went to C. Creek to church. Then we went to an organ recital at the F. P. Baptist Church. In the evening we attend the Union Service at Lutheran Church in St. J.

December 3, 1973

It was a nice sunshiny day. I wrote cards in the forenoon. Dean was here for dinner. He did not feel well. The men started shelling across the Thruway in the early evening.

December 4, 1973

I had a bad fall in front of the couch right soon after dinner. I couldn’t do much after that. Herbert went up to the old place. Keith R finished shelling corn across the Thruway.

December 5, 1973

A very rainy day! Herbert went to C. Creek to help in P. M. I made some bedpads and knitted.

December 6, 1973

We went up to Little Falls and Herkimer to do our Christmas shopping right after dinner. Margaret & Charles had been here while we were gone away.

December 7, 1973

Madeliene was here. Herbert went to C. Creek to help work on the house. Janice took Dean to see Dr. Muller. The doctor changed the medicine.

December 8, 1973

Herbert worked at C. Creek again. Janice took Marta & Dean down to her mothers. I wrote cards, made bedpads and knitted.

December 9, 1973

Stephanie Lynn was baptized today. She was very good. We ate supper at the Jack Frost. We attended Service in the evening at St. J. Lutheran Church.

December 10, 1973

We did the washing. I made lemon filling jelly roll cake. Herbert went to help at C. Creek for a while in the P. M. He went to F. Plain in forenoon to get me some groceries.

December 11, 1973

I ironed in the forenoon. In P. M. I put the clothes away. Herbert went to C. Creek again. Our DAR meeting was postponed, so we didn’t go as planned.

December 12, 1973

Herbert & I put up our artificial Christmas tree and trimmed it. We put up some of the decorations. Herbert went up to the old place to help on the house.

December 13, 1973

I made escalloped potatoes to take to the supper at the grange hall. I put up some more of the trimming. I made some more bedpads.

December 14, 1973

We attended the Grange & Church Service at C. Creek. There were 76 present. The Sunday School put on a very good program. Juanita, Janie & Mrs. Mosher had worked very hard on it.

December 15, 1973

Madeliene was here. In the P. M. we attended Helen Leek’s Funeral at Lulls Funeral Parlor. Then we went up to see Margaret & Charles.

December 16, 1973

We attended church at C. Creek. Then we ate supper at the Jack & Jill Restaurant. We watched TV in the evening. It snowed a lot in the night.

December 17, 1973

I didn’t go out of the house. Herbert only went to the barn to help with chores & shovel out a path to the barn. I worked on getting things ready for Christmas.

December 18, 1973

I went to F. Plain to the hairdressers. Then we went to buy groceries. In the evening we went to the DAR supper & entertainment at St. Johnsville. Keith R. plowed out our driveways. Lots of snow.

December 19, 1973

I fixed squash & made molded salad for Christmas dinner. We received a present from Alyson & Jeffrey and another from Ethel Haig though the mail. -13 here at night.

December 20, 1973

Marta was operated on this morning on her ears. The Dr. wanted Janice to stay all night.

December 21, 1973

Madeliene was here. She waxed the kitchen floor. Janice stayed all night again with Marta. It was a stormy day. Ethel Reese died this A. M.

December 22, 1973

Marta & Janice got home about 11 A. M. Herbert went to F. Plain after the turkey (22 lbs.). Keith R. plowed out the driveway. Herbert called Milo Ruller on the phone.

December 23, 1973

We attended church. Then we went to Lulls Funeral Parlor to see the Ethel Reese family. Then we came home. In the evening the Carolers from the St. J. Church came.

December 24, 1973

Tom & Karen stayed for the first in their new home. We attended Candlelight Service at St. J. Lutheran Church. Our invitation to Linda Taylor’s wedding came.

December 25, 1973

18 were here for Christmas. We had a very enjoyable time. Keith H. & family went to her folks for supper & Wayne & family went to her folks at Mohawk.

December 26, 1973

I received “Intimate” from Joanne & Gordon, a candle in (blue dish) from Alta & Floyd Weaver gave Herbert “dish lifters”. A very foggy & rainy day. I worked on puzzle & put a lot of the food away.

December 27, 1973

This is Janice’s and Keiths 26th wedding anniversary. A very foggy day. We did the washing. In the P. M. I quilted some again on my quilt.

December 28, 1973

We went to the grange meeting at Keith Herbert’s. We had a nice time. Madeliene was here in the P. M. I finished the ironing.

December 29, 1973

I went with Janice and Marta to a shower for Linda Taylor at Evelyn Miles’ house. It was a very elaborate & nice party.

December 30, 1973

We went to church. I had a very bad cold. Ethel Haig called on the telephone. We worked some on the big puzzle.

December 31, 1973

My cold was very bad. I wrote to Morris Holliday for information on the 3 weeks tour to Alaska. I also wrote to Ann & Jack. Herbert worked at C. Creek.
