January 1, 1975

Herbert gave me this diary. We watched the parade and football game at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, Texas. We watched a little of the Rose Bowl parade.

January 2, 1975

George & Ida Burner came up in the P. M. and we played Pinochle. Ethel Haig called on the telephone. I had a letter from Alice Hedges Moore.

January 3, 1975

We put away the presents & took down the Christmas tree. We watched a Dick Van Dyke show on the T. V. in the evening.

January 4, 1975

Herbert attended the wedding of Bernidine Gillen and Mark Lawrence in Little Falls at 6:30. He attended a very nice wedding reception at 7:30.

January 5, 1975

Herbert went to C. Creek to church. I couldn’t go as I couldn’t get a shoe on my right foot. Janice has a lame back & couldn’t go to church. J. Shuster played for her.

January 6, 1975

It was a nice, sunshiny day. Herbert went to the bank and took my denture to the dentist to be fixed. We watched a movie in celebration of 200 anniversary of U. S.

January 7, 1975

Hazel Swanson brought me cookies and a loaf of nut bread in the early evening. I didn’t attend L. C. W. meeting at Marion Groff’s as I couldn’t walk up the stairs.

January 8, 1975

Herbert went to F. Plain & got my upper dentures, which Dr. Berg had repaired. He ordered 2 sport shirts for himself. We had a letter from Leland & Iva Bellinger.

January 9, 1975

We went to Mayfield to meeting of Pomona Grange at home of Charles & Margaret Edwards. Mae & Etta went with us. We had a good time.

January 10, 1975

Madeliene was here in the P. M. Herbert went with Keith Raymond when he took a machine back to Johnstown. It was a beautiful sunshiny day. I embroidered.

January 11, 1975

We went down to Berners for dessert & then we played Pinochle in the evening. We had a very pleasant evening.

January 12, 1975

We went to Evangelic Church at C. Creek. Then after the service we went down & got Keith H. and Juanita & family. We took them for supper at Valmar in Dolgeville. We invited Margaret & Charles.

January 13, 1975

We did the washing and dried the clothes in the house. I embroidered on my tablecloth in A. M. and P. M. Janice went back to work.

January 14, 1975

I did all of the ironing and some of the mending. It was a nice day. Herbert called up and talked with Alyson about meeting us in N. Y. on Jan. 19th.

January 15, 1975

Herbert & I went to F. Plain. I bought 4 pr. of stockings & we each bought 5 travelers’ checks. Marion Groff & Etta Allen called on the telephone.

January 16, 1975

We listened to the Waltons on TV in the evening. I had washed & ironed my 2-piece summer green dress.

January 17, 1975

Madeliene came to clean. It had snowed quite a lot the previous night. We

January 18, 1975

It snowed almost all afternoon. Pastor Clark called in the P. M. Marge didn’t feel well enough to come. We listened to the L. Welk in evening. I went to F. Plain to the hairdresser’s.

January 19, 1975

We got up about 2:45 so as to get ready to leave by 4:30 for Albany Airport. Keith R., Marta & Yvette took us down. We reached Kennedy airport 12:30. We reached Fort Lauderdale about 2:30 P. M. Then we went to Hilton Hotel.

January 20, 1975

We were assigned to room 804. We ate dinner in the hotel dining room. Then all the members on the grange tour met in a room and each one told his name, & when he lives. We sailed on the Slatendam at 5:40. We were assigned to room 14. We had a very good dinner & the Bissells & the

Compulsory Lifeboat drill at 10:30 information & talk about “Tours Ashore in Curacas and Venezuela by Shore Excursion Manager. Movie “A New Leaf.” Captains Reception.

January 22, 1975

We played Pinochle in A. M. & P. M. We went to the movie “On A Clear Day.” We attended a meeting of the Way Farer Group Travel and Holland America Cruises.

January 23, 1975

We started for Willmstad Curacao at 1:30. We went on a buss, and the girl who explained the trip was very pleasant. We got back 4:30. We saw a movie after dinner.

January 24, 1975

We went by buss to Laigrade, the main port of Venezuela. We then traveled 19 miles to Caracas. Herbert went up on the mountain by cable car. Visited a glass factory.

January 25, 1975

We went to Kingston St. Vincent in the P. M. We walked off of the boats & over to the Main St. There we rode in taxis over the mts. For quite a long time. It was scenic. It rained

January 26, 1975

Herbert went in a tender to the island of Martinique. I stayed home, wrote cards, and caught up in my diary and tour book. We attended church at 5:30. In the evening a Masquerade was held in the S Lounge.

January 27, 1975

We went in A. M. to island of St. Thomas. Herbert & I stayed over, had lunch & then went shopping. We sat on the deck & enjoyed the sunshine. In the evening we played Bingo. The crew put on a very good, long show.

January 28, 1975

Herbert went after lunch with a group to see the bridge of the ship. At 3:30 we played 5 games of Bingo. It was a special night on ship. Baked Alaska was served. 2 waiters sang 2 songs.

January 29, 1975

We ate breakfast at 8 o’clock. Then we went to a meeting, called by Mr. Eastman. He said he would have a group picture for each family. We played Pinochle.

January 30, 1975

We ate an early breakfast. We got off of the boat about 10:30. We went through customs and then boarded the plane for N. Y. We ate on the plane. Then we went on the Alleghany airplane to Albany. Dean & Keith met us. We were home by 7:30.

We unpacked our suitcases. Madeliene came to clean. We had grange meeting here in the evening. Herbert & I talked about our trip.

February 1, 1975

I wrote up the grange notes for the newspaper. We went in the evening to the St. Johnsville High School. Dean sang in the Jr. Glee Club.

February 2, 1975

It was a beautiful sunshiny day. We went to St. Marks Lutheran Church. When we left there, We went up to call on Margaret & Charles.

February 3, 1975

We did a large washing. I did part of the ironing. I started croheting a doily. It was a beautiful sunshiny day.

February 4, 1975

I finished the ironing. I went with Janice to L. C. W. meeting at Marion’s home. Herbert came after me. Matthew was at the meeting & he was so good and cute.

February 5, 1975

Herbert went to the bank to deposit money. He went after my glasses, but they had not come. I made a lot of bed pads. Herbert went to church council meeting.

February 6, 1975

I went to get my teeth cleaned. Dr. Berg also put a small filling in 1 tooth. Herbert went to Dr. Glenn’s office & got the new frames for my glasses.

February 7, 1975

My tooth broke off again. Mae, Herbert & I planned to attend a card party at Middleville. They must have called it off. So we stopped & played pinochle with Alice & Eric Carlson.

February 8, 1975

It was a nice day. I made several bed pads. I crocheted some, but made a mistake & I had to rip out a lot. I received an invitation to a shower for Charlene Davis.

February 9, 1975

We attended church at C. Creek. Then we went to the Jack Frost for supper. Keith R. stopped in on his way to C Creek & he gave me Juanita’s letter.

February 10, 1975

I went to the dentists in P. M. to have an impression made for my upper dentures. It was a sunshiny day. I finished the 10th row of my rose doily.

February 11, 1975

I made bed pads. Herbert went to C. Creek in P. M. to see the barn. Janie Nartynicek had a baby boy this A. M. His name is Shannon Peter.

February 12, 1975

Herbert & I went to Ash Wed Services at St Johnsville. It was Communion. It is cold tonight, only 4 degrees above zero now.

February 13, 1975

We went to dinner for the elderly at St. J. It was decorated for Valentine’s Day & they also had special gifts for those, whose birthdays are in Feb.

February 14, 1975

We received a valentine from Karen, Tom and Becky. I made some bedpads from sheets that Janice gave me. I crocheted and knitted also.

February 15, 1975

We were invited up to Keith’s & Juanita’s for supper. Bob & Barbara Goldstein, Howard, and a friend, Ross, were there also. We had a good time.

February 16, 1975

We went to C. Creek to church. It was a youth service. Then Herbert took me to Charlene’s shower at the Redman’s Hall in Oppenheim.

February 17, 1975

We did the washing. Then in P. M. we went to F. Plain to get my teeth. Herbert bought rubbers for Keith R., & parts for himself. He bought a big box of crochet thread.

February 18, 1975

Herbert took me up to DAR meeting. Then he went up to see Harold & Dorothy. Mr. Harrison came to look at the T. V.

February 19, 1975

We invited Alma & Ethel up for dinner and the afternoon. We had a real good time. They gave me a bottle of cologne for my birthday.

February 20, 1975

My 76th birthday. Margaret & Charles were here in P. M. We were invited down to Berners for dessert. We had a good time playing Pinochle.

February 22, 1975

We went to Clinton L. Home to take up bedpads. Then we went to see Kurt & Loretto Lochmar. We stayed for supper.

February 23, 1975

We attended church at C. Creek. Then we were invited to Keith H. and Juanita’s for supper. Juanita had made birthday cakes for Rebeccah & me.

February 24, 1975

A very rainy day. Herbert went with Keith R. to Amsterdam to return the cement mixer. We received a letter from Leland and Iva B.

February 25, 1975

We went up to see Hilda at the Hospital. She seemed in good spirits. We had a letter from Pauline Fuller. I bought material to make a patchwork pillow.

February 26, 1975

It was a sunshiny day, but rather windy and cold. I finished knitting another leprosy bandage. There was no school at St. J. on account of a break in the water main.

February 27, 1975

I worked on program for grange in P. M. In forenoon I baked oatmeal cookies, chocolate cake and banana bread. I didn’t make the bran muffins until Fri.

February 28, 1975

We went to grange meeting at Mae & Richard Bellingers. After the meeting we had a “bring and buy” sale. We had a patriotic program.

March 1, 1975

A beautiful day. I wrote up the grange news for the newspaper. I started another leprosy bandage. I called Alma on the telephone.

March 2, 1975

We attended church at C. Creek. Daniel Thode was baptized. We went to see Margaret & Charles & then to see Peter & Janie and their baby. We talked with Joanne on the phone.

March 3, 1975

We went to see the movie “Grisley Adams” at the St. J. theater. It was a very good movie. Hilda came through her operation very well.

March 4, 1975

I attended L. C. W. meeting at Mardis Bowers. I was the leader. I went with Janice & Herbert came after me.

March 5, 1975

We went to Middleville to card party & Fireman’s Hall. The Berners, Alma and Mae Bellinger went with us. We had a good time.

March 6, 1975

Mr. Harrison brought back our T. V. It seemed good to have it fixed. Reuben Failing was here.

March 7, 1975

We went to the bank. Then in P. M. Alta went with us up to Newitt & Bly Funeral Parlor. Mary Snell had died the previous day. We stayed & had supper with Alta & Floyd.

March 8, 1975

Herbert’s birthday. I tied off a quilt. We were invited down to Berners for the evening. We played Pinochle and had a pleasant time.

March 9, 1975

We attended church. Then we went to Stewarts Restaurant in F. Plain. Keith R & family and Juanita & family were our dinner guests there in honor of Herbert’s 71st birthday.

March 10, 1975

I worked on program for the grange meeting. I made cloth leprosy bandages.

March 11, 1975

We went to Middleville in evening to a grange card party. I went to get my hair washed & set. Herbert took John over to Sharon to get his car. Arnica fell on the ice & broke her ankle. She is Cobleskill Hospital.

March 12, 1975

We went with Ida & Gray to the meals for the Elderly & then went to the Community House to a meeting of the Elderly Club. We went to Lenten Service in evening.

March 13, 1975

The quilting frame finally came. Herbert fixed a bucket in the barn. He went down to Janice’s to get some mending for me to do.

March 14, 1975

We had grange meeting here. It was supposed to have been at Juanitas but she asked us to have it here. We had a “bring and buy” sale.

March 15, 1975

Madeliene took me to Study class. Herbert came after me when he came from the Korniat auction. We put my quilt on the new frames & I quilted a block.

March 16, 1975

George & Ida Berner went to Ames with us to a pancake breakfast. We went to C. Creek to church. Then Mae went with us to 50th wedding anniversary of Wm. & Nellie Frederick.

March 17, 1975

We did the washing in the forenoon. I quilted quite a lot.

March 18, 1975

They milked the cows in the new milking parlor for 1st time. We left here at 11 A. M. to go on the bus to the Senior Citizens dinner at Amsterdam. A beautiful day. I went to D. A. R. in the evening.

March 19, 1975

It was 1 A. M. when they finished milking at C. Creek. It was 1 P. M. when they finished the morning milking. We attended Lenten Service at St. J.

March 20, 1979

I quilted a lot. I also knitted on a cancer bandage.

March 21, 1975

Herbert took me up to Alta’s after dinner. We worked on making blankets for Relief. She asked Herbert & me to stay to supper.

March 22, 1975

Herbert got my denture from Dr. Berg’s office. I worked on my quilt, made 2 bandage rolls, and crocheted on a doily. The men cleaned the barn.

March 23, 1975

We attended church at C. Creek. Then we went to a cantata at the Grace Church in St. J. It was very good. Then we went to Stewarts & had supper.

March 24, 1975

We didn’t do the washing. I talked with Ruth Sheffield on the telephone. Alma called me in the P. M.

March 25, 1975

Janice came up in the forenoon & helped me make out the income taxes. I quilted 3 blocks on my quilt. I also crocheted on my doily. I have it ½ finished.

March 26, 1975

Herbert talked with Chalmer Hileman on the telephone. I received a check for $100 for the travelers checks I had not used. Hilda Mosher came home from hospital.

March 27, 1975

We went up to Meals for the Elderly. In the evening we went to Lenten Service at St. J. church. It was cold but the wind had gone down.

March 28, 1979

Madeliene came in A. M. I prepared grange program. We went to the Good Friday service at Grace Church. Keith H. & family went to see Karen & Tom.

March 29, 1975

We went to grange meeting at Ennett & Laura Clause’s. We had a good time. Keith & Juanita & family went out to see Karen & Tom.

March 30, 1975

We went to Easter Dawn Service at the St. J. Lutheran Church. We stayed for lunch. In P. M. we went to C. Creek to church. Marta & Dean joined church. We went to Dolgeville & Charles & Margaret took us to Valmar for dinner.

We did the washing. Bruce Litchfield & his wife & daughter called here in P. M. I quilted in A. M. I finished the crocheted doily & knitted some.

I did the ironing in A. M. In P. M. Herbert took Janice & me to L. C. W. meeting at Alta Weavers.

April 2, 1975

Herbert want to Council meeting at Ralph Groffs. I worked on binding my quilt. I finished it the next forenoon. It is pretty.

April 3, 1975

Madeleine came to clean. Herbert took our checks to the bank. I worked on making bed pads. It was a very windy night. The light’s kept going.

April 4, 1975

We left St. J. 9:00AM to start to go to visit Tom & Karen. We didn’t reach there 2:30. The roads were very bad because of drifting snow. We had to detour some places, because the roads were drifted out.

April 5, 1975

We went to see the Joslyn Manufacturing Co. building, Pemco Division, where Tom works. They make insulators. We put a puzzle together.

April 6, 1975

We attended church with Karen & Tom & Becky. We stayed for a covered dish dinner at the church dining room. Then we went around the Elim Campus & went inside the auditorium.

April 7, 1975

We got up about 6 A. M. We got started for Geneva about 8:15. We stopped there to see Clifford & Zelia Butterer. We stayed until 1:30 & then went home.

I started making sofa pillows for entry in grange contest. I got the blocks cut out and some pieced together. It is not as easy as it looks.

April 9, 1975

We went over to dinner at the American Legion Hall. Then we went to the meeting of the elderly at the Community House. Sunshiny day, but a cold wind.

April 10, 1975

We went to Pomona Grange meeting at Sacandaga. Etta, Clyde, and Laura went with us. We attended Larry Allen’s funeral.

April 12, 1975

We went to Charlene Davis’ wedding at St. J. Lutheran Church. Then we attended the wedding reception at the V. F. W. in Herkimer. We also went to Grange meeting at Bellingers in the evening.

April 13, 1975

Bill & Pat Eyke and their 2 boys called in A. M. Then we went to C. Creek to church. We watched TV in evening.

April 14, 1975

It was a beautiful sunshiny day. We did the washing & then I baked for the grange bake sale. They made $40, and we thought that was good.

April 15, 1975

I went to the hairdresser. I did the ironing in the forenoon. I worked on finishing my red & white sofa pillow for the grange contest. It is very pretty.

April 16, 1975

I went with Herbert to Sharon Springs and to Randall & Sprakers to get parts the men needed to fix the tractor. I enjoyed the ride. It was a sunny day. We attended the service held at the Grace Congregational church at St. J. in P. M.

April 17, 1975

Keith H. tried to plow down here, but there was still frost in the ground. Keith R. burned the grass along the north side of the road.

April 18, 1975

I made dessert to take to study class meeting the next day. I embroidered a lot on an apron for the bazaar.

April 19, 1975

I went to study class meeting at the Reformed Church in F. Plain. Mae Bellinger & Madeliene Taylor were my guests. Grace & Alma went with us to card party at F. Plain.

April 20, 1975

We went to C. Creek to church. Then we went to call on Alta & Floyd for an hour or so. Then we went to the Catholic church to see “Covenant” Players present the gospel message. We went to Jack Frost Restaurant for supper.

April 21, 1975

I worked on making articles for the rummage sale which the C. Creek Grange is going to have next Monday & Tuesday at St. Johnsville.

April 22, 1975

We went to Senior Citizens dinner at F. Plain Reformed Church. Then we went to Richfield Springs on a errand for Keith R. & Keith H. From there we went to see Monroe & Eva Hamilton who live near Marcellus. We hadn’t seen them since the Caribbean Cruise.

April 23, 1975

Herbert plowed the field across the Thruway with the new tractor. He liked it very much. I began to get together articles for the rummage sale. We had a letter from Amorita & Earl.

April 24, 1975

Herbert had 2 new tires put on the rear of our car. I made more things for the bazaar. Keith R. is going to milk meeting hear Cedarville tonight.

April 25, 1975

We had grange meeting here. It was 60 years since Albert Smith joined the grange. He received his pin & certificate. Juanita made a nice cake for him.

April 26, 1975

We were tired after the grange meeting the night before. I cleaned up the next A. M. Herbert went with Pastor Clark to a church meeting at Johnstown.

April 27, 1975

We went to St. J. to church. Then we ate dinner at Chickerings Restaurant in L. Falls. From there we went to see Esther & Pete.

April 28, 1975

We went to St. J. to start getting ready for a grange rummage sale. We worked until 5 at night & we were tired out. It was a nice sunny day, but a cold wind.

April 29, 1975

We went to St. J. in P. M. & had a bake sale along with rummage sale. We closed at 5 o’clock, then we had to clean up.

April 30, 1975

We did the washing. Herbert hung the clothes out doors & they dried very well. Ida & George Berner were here in P. M. They went with us to fritter supper at Starkville.

May 1, 1975

I did the ironing in A. M. Madeliene came to clean as they are going tomorrow after school to Linda’s. Herbert plowed some.

May 2, 1975

It rained hard last night & in the A. M. In P. M. Mr. & Mrs. Wright of Fort Plain came up to get some help on geneology. Herbert went after supper to plow on the gravel.

May 3, 1975

I worked on cancer bandages. In P. M., Herbert & Emmett helped clean the church. I stayed at Juanita’s and helped fold clothes. I rocked Matthew.

May 4, 1975

We attended church service at C. Creek. Then we went to see Margaret & Charles. They went with us to a musical program at the Dolgeville Lutheran Church.

May 5, 1975

I worked at leprosy bandages in forenoon & afternoon. Herbert went to Fonda.

May 6, 1975

Herbert took me to L. C. W. meeting at Mae Bellingers. Karen & Tom & Rebecca came down to Keith Herberts.

May 7, 1975

Margaret & Charles came in P. M. The men worked on getting ready to plant corn. We went to Middleville to card party.

May 8, 1975

A beautiful day. I had a very hard cold. I embroidered a lot. Marjorie Lee and Nina L. came to call in P. M.

May 9, 1975

We went to grange meeting at Crum Creek. Herbert swept out the hall in P. M. Madeliene was here and cleaned the front porch.

May 10, 1975

We went to Suny, Albany to attend Alumni Day Festivities. There were 16 from my class of 1920 present. In the evening we went to Pomona exchange meeting at Perth.

May 11, 1975

We went to C. Creek to church. Then went to F. Plain & got our dinner. It was Mother’s Day. We watched TV in the evening.

May 12, 1975

Herbert took the car to the garage. He went to Farmers Banquet at the F. Plain Masonic Temple. We had a long letter from Joanne.

May 13, 1975

We did the washing & I did the ironing in P. M. Herbert & Keith H built fence. A hard thunderstorm in afternoon. I embroidered.

May 14, 1975

Pastor Clark took Etta & Laura & me to L. C. W. Spring Assembly at Johnstown. It was held in the beautiful new building.

May 15, 1975

Herbert took care down to Prime’s to be fixed. The men worked on fixing fence. The boys put a new belt on the riding mower and Herbert mowed lawn.

May 16, 1975

Madeliene was here. Herbert got the car back. He & the men fixed fence & let the heifers out. I went with Herbert & I drove down past Swansons, up 5S to Indian Castle & home.

May 17, 1975

Herbert planted garden. We went up to the diner at St. J. to eat supper. It was a beautiful day.

May 18, 1975

We attended Lutheran Church at St. J. Then in P. M. at 3 o’clock we attended a recital at Grace Church. A woman sang & another played the organ.

May 19, 1975

We didn’t do the washing. Herbert went to Richfield Springs and other places to get things to repair the tractor.

May 20, 1975

I went with Janice to a shower for Martha, the girl who is going to marry Donald Streed. She received a lot of beautiful presents.

May 21, 1975

I peeled gladioli bulbs in the P. M. Then I embroidered. Herbert helped at C. Creek, by dragging large meadow over twice.

May 22, 1975

A beautiful sunshiny day. Herbert worked at C. Creek in P. M. I embroidered a lot. Herbert planted the gladiolas.

May 23, 1975

I made sugar cookies. In the evening we took the Berners & Lulu Robinson to Neighbor Night meeting at C. Creek Grange. Mayfield & Sacandaga put on program.

May 24, 1975

Sunshiny and very hot day. Herbert plowed all day on the big lot across from the house at Keith Herberts.

May 25, 1975

After church service, we went to call of Sophie & John Wolanski. Peter Martingrok joined C. Creek church and their baby, Shannon, was baptized.

May 26, 1975

We did the washing. The clothes dried very well. Herbert plowed the field below the barn yard at Keith’s.

May 27, 1975

I did the ironing. I worked on my embroidery in the afternoon. Herbert put flowers on 2 cemeteries.

May 28, 1975

It was a nice day. Herbert & Emmett worked on the Groff cemetery. Then Herbert plowed the field across from the barn at Keith’s.

May 29, 1975

Herbert took me to F. Plain to buy some things at the Ben Franklin Store and at the Victory market. He worked at C. Creek in the P. M.

May 30, 1975

We went over to visit Agnes Ward in Franklin. We attended a play in the evening at the High School. It was very good.

May 31, 1975

We called on Ina Ward and Ruth Goldsmith in A. M. Then at 10 o’clock we went home. In evening we went with the Berners to card party at American Legion hall.

We went to C. Creek to church. Then Keith took me home. Herbert went with Pastor Clark to Syracuse to attend a meeting of Synod.

June 2, 1975

A very beautiful day. I wrote a birthday card to Jeffrey. I washed my dress and other things. Then later on I ironed them & pressed my doily, embroidered tablecloth & pictures.

June 3, 1975

I drove car alone to go to the hairdresser’s. Herbert came home from Synod meeting at 3 o’clock. Then we called at Lull’s Parlor, where Charles Hillegas was. Then we went to see Alma & we played Pinochle.

June 4, 1975

I went up to Juanita’s & helped her fold clothes. Then after lunch Herbert took me to L. C. W. meeting at Laura Claus’s.

June 6, 1975

We were very happily surprised with Eva & Monroe Hamilton came to visit us. We went to Stewart’s for supper. We went to C. C. grange hall to prechie.

June 7, 1975

We went up to Keith Herberts to watch Juanita milk cows in parlor. We ate dinner at Diner in St. J. We went to Dolgeville & the rest bought violets. We went to Nowadaga Grange in evening. We took part in the program.

June 8, 1975

Eva & Monroe went to C. Creek to church. After church they started for home. Keith R. came up in evening and visited about our anniversary.

June 9, 1975

We did the washing & I did part of the ironing. Herbert hoed in the garden. Keith H. and Dean came in to eat a snack while we had supper.

June 10, 1975

I finished the ironing. I attended a Tri Chapter meeting of the DAR at Canajoharie. I went with Catherine Feldstein & 2 others.

June 11, 1975

We attended a meeting of the Senior Citizens at the Community House in St. Johnsville.

We went down in the evening to play Pinochle with Ida & George Berner. Marta was sick with a severe sore throat and mononucleosis.

We went to Grange meeting at C. Creek. Herbert Davis, Jr. joined the grange. Madeliene came to clean after she came from school.

We went to Fort Plain in A. M. & purchased a salad bowl set for silver wedding anniversary gift for the Rev. & Mrs. Richard Clark.

June 15, 1975

We went to C. Creek to church service at 11:00. In the P. M. we attended the silver anniversary of Pastor & Mrs. Clark in Fellowship Room at St. J. Lutheran Church.

June 16, 1975

Herbert worked at C. Creek. In the evening we went to Neighborhome Grange meeting at Sacandaga. Clyde, Etta, Laura & Mae went with us.

June 17, 1975

George Brown brought our pictures back, which he had taken. We selected the one taken by the tree in our yard. Herbert mowed lawn.

June 18, 1975

We worked here at home all day. I received a letter from Gertrude Lance. The men were here & put part of the blacktop on our driveway.

Madeliene was here to clean after school.

I put away most of my winter clothes. Herbert & I played some Pinochle before we went to bed.

We went to C. Creek to church. Then we went and put up the new grange flag. We had a short ceremony. We ate down at Jack Frost. Then we went to Ephratah to ice cream social. We also called in Carrie Handy.

We did the washing & I did part of the ironing. Herbert went to grange hall. He & Laura put up the curtains. Then he mopped the floor.

June 24, 1975

I finished the ironing. We went up to the grange hall. Ennett helped Herbert set up the tables. It was a nice day.

We went up to grange hall early. The Senior Citizens came about 2:00. The grange entertained them. There were about 65 present. We had a good time.

The men put in a lot of hay. Herbert plowed, but it was too much for him. It affected his heart. I had a letter from Gertrude Lance.

We attended grange meeting in the evening. Keith H. planted a piece of corn at C. Creek.

June 28, 1975

Herbert was in misery. It was hard for him to get to sleep. The spots which had come around his waist had gotten worse. We went after George & Ida & went to Pinochle party at Norway Grange.

Herbert didn’t feel any better. Keith R. took me up to church. It was a nice day. The Corbetts called here in the evening.

Herbert went to see Dr. Sentocknick. He said it was the heat which caused him to break out. He gave him a prescription for medicine.

Herbert took me up to L. C. W. at Etta Allens. Herbert felt some better. I had a letter from Ruth Burritt. It was a very hot day.

Jack & Ann came today. They had been with his folks since they came from Germany. They both look fine. It seems so good to have them home.

The men drew in baled hay at Keith Raymond’s. Jack helped mow away hay.

We went to ice cream social at Fort Klock. I visited with Charles Gohring. Then we went to a card party at the Newville Grange hall. Bob Goldstein brought a boy up to work for Keith Herbert this summer.

Herbert went to St. Johnsville for groceries in P. M. He cut grass around half of the fence & got the current back. He put screens on the porch.

We attended church at C. Creek. It was communion. Janice & Keith invited us down there for a family picnic. Their family was all there. We called on the Cronkhites in the evening.

We did the washing. Herbert picked currants & froze some of them. Herbert put the rest of the plants out on the front porch. He went to the bank.

I did the ironing. I made a gingerbread cake for the baking contest. Herbert mowed part of the lawn.

I did some washing. It was a beautiful day. We had a letter from the Maloys. I wrote some checks.

We attended Pomona Grange meeting at Crum Creek. The judging of gingerbread & cookies & needlework was held. A beautiful day.

Herbert & I finished cutting back the pink spirea. George & Ida Berner were here in P. M. We played Pinochle on the front porch. I had a “permanent.” I drove the car down alone.

We went to Mason Inn where we met the Fullers, the Grabows, the Schmicks and the Neffs. We had a very pleasant time. We decided to try to meet there next yr. on the 2nd Sat in July.

We went to C. Creek to church. Tom preached the sermon. After church we came home & ate lunch. Then we went to see Philip & Iva Wendell.

We went to Fort Plain in A. M. and I bought my dress & girdle to wear to our anniversary dinner. I made curean jell in PM. I crocheted some.

We went to F. Plain & I bought a pr. of white shoes to wear to our 50th wedding anniversary. We canned 7 qts of string beans in A. M.

Alta came after beans & lettuce. Marta and Karen picked beans. Joanne phoned. She said she had mailed the invitations to our 50th anniversary.

We went with the Berners to “Meals for the Elderly” at St. Johnsville. It was Ida’s birthday. We washed the curtains from the upstairs bedroom & I ironed them.

Ann brought her invitation to our 50th anniversary dinner up here to show us. They are real nice. The Berners went with us to card party at Newville.

Herbert worked on the lawns. I put the hem in my long new dress. Some friends brought Tom down for the week end.

We went to Crum Creek Church. Tom & Keith R. had charge of the service. Then we went to the “Stone House,” quite a distance out of Mohawk for dinner. We visited the Herkimer Homestead.

We did the washing & I ironed some. Herbert picked cucumbers and I canned sacharine pickles & started “golden glow” pickles.

I finished making the “golden glow” pickles & canned them. I washed the dining room curtains & ironed them.

Elsie Ward and one of her sisters brought us a wedding book for their present for our anniversary. It is very nice.

We washed the parlor curtains & the curtains in front hall. I ironed them. Herbert washed the windows on east side & all that hadn’t been washed.

It was a beautiful day. Herbert worked out doors. I wrote up Grange news & typed it. Etta called & said she would go with us tomorrow to Rowlands.

We went to C. Creek to church. Then we went home and got the water melon. Then we picked up Lulu & Etta & we went to the picnic at Rowlands. I drove as far as Johnstown.

Janice gave us transparent apples & we canned 9 qts. & froze 2. It was delicious. We cleaned the big clothesprest. We put up new curtains.

We went up to C. Creek to church to attend the Bible Class. Pastor discussed many things about the book of John. It was a very hot day.

A very hot day. We went to L. Falls in A. M. & bought some things at the Farmer’s Market. Then Herbert went to get measured for the tuxedo to wear Aug. 17th.

We attended church at Inghams. Etta went with us. We ate dinner at the Jack Frost and then came home.

We did the washing. In the late P. M. and evening there was a very severe rain & thunderstorm. Electricity was off a little while.

A very rainy day. We canned seven qts. of carrots. I made a lot of linings for bed pads. We had a letter from the Dunns.

Another rainy day. We cleaned carrots for freezing. We took Ida & George Berner and Rose Doxstader to Inghams ice cream sale. Then we played Pinochle with Ida & George.

A nice sunshiny day. Herbert bought a nice pair of black shoes. Emmett & Hilda called here in P. M. Madeliene cleaned. We went to Grange.

We attended Union Service at the Methodist Church in St. J. In P. M. we went to a chicken barbeque at the Beagle Club in Hessville.

Herbert & I canned 7 qts. of tomato juice. Ida & George stopped in for a few minutes.

I cleaned the shelves in the living room. Herbert picked vegetables and Jack & Ann came after some to take to Binghamton. Margaret Finch brought back my walker. She brought me a box of candy from her mother.

We made 7 pts. of chili sauce. In P. M. we went to St. J. to vote on school budget. Then we went to F. Plain to buy “thank you” cards. We went to Canajoharie to buy green cover for the daybed in the laundry.

I went to the dentist in A. M. to have my teeth cleaned. Joanne & family came in P. M. They came from Lake Sunapees. Jeffrey has grown so very tall. Madeliene came to clean.

I went to the hairdressers in A. M. The Schaetzels went up to the barn to have supper with Keith Herberts & Keith Raymonds. Beulah & Margaret Sanders called in evening. Joannes & Jack & Ann & Bob & Barbara Goldstein trimmed the hall for the wedding.

We attended our 50 yr. anniversary celebration at V. F. W. in Fort Plain. There were over 200 people present. We enjoyed a delicious dinner & had a great time. The Hamiltons came for the evening. Floyd & Mary Shoemaker stayed all night.

The Schaetzels went home in the A. M. Then Floyd & Mary Schumaker of Metaprossen, Pa. left for home in P. M. We took them up to Keith Herberts & went to Little Falls to return the tuxedos.

We did the washing and I ironed quite a lot. I worked some on writing thank you notes. Juanita & the children stopped to see us on account of it being our wedding anniversary.

Herbert & I went to the bank at F. Plain & to Dr. Sentochiks to get blanks filled out for car insurance.

We canned 7 qts. of corn & put 3 bags in the freezer. Margaret & Charles came down in P. M. Then shortly after, Marjorie & Nina came.

We got the things ready to take to Cortland to the Craft fair at the Grange building. We started 6:30 the next morning.

We arrived at Cortland in time to set up our display of crafts, etc. by 10 A. M. It was a very long day. We had to stay until 10 P. M. The Hamiltons came over to show us the way to their place.

The Hamiltons went with us to Cortland & stayed until we left at about 9:45 P. M. We slept better that night. We got up early & left for home.

We didn’t have any trouble finding where Tom & Karen live. It is a very comfortable apartment. The couple was there, who is to stay with Rebecca while Karen is in the hospital.

We had bought a bu. of peaches & a bu. of apples on the way yesterday. I wrote a lot of thank you notes.

We canned 14 qts. of peaches. They looked lovely in the cans. Alma and Ruth Sheffield came up in P. M. to see our presents. Herbert went to C. C. & picked blackberries.

We froze the rest of the peaches & put them in freezer. Ida & George Berner were here in P. M. We played some Pinochle. Mr. Storkesy came up after tomatoes.

Herbert dug the onions & picked tomatoes in the morning. It rained very hard. We went to grange meeting in the evening.

I wrote up the grange news. Dottie Crouse and Marilyn were here in the evening. We had a very good visit.

Herbert moved the grange lawn. I did the ironing & put the clothes away. David Looman came for a visit in the evening. The men chopped a load of corn.

Herbert and I went up to the grange hall. We put paper on the tables & hung up some of the quilts upstairs.

We went up to the Grange Hall early in the forenoon. We had lots of things to display. Ida & George Berner put up their display. Herbert stayed all night. I came home with Keith R., Marta, Dean & Yvette Taylor.

Herbert came home about 8 A. M. We went up to the hall about 12. We didn’t have a very good attendance. We took the things down at 9 P. M.

I couldn’t sleep on account of my back hurting as much. I got up 3 times. I worked on my crocheting and knitting.

It rained all day. Herbert stained the bookcase for in my bedroom. We put away a lot of our anniversary presents. I worked on bed pads.

I called Laura Claus & congratulated them on their 39th wedding anniversary. I put away more of our anniversary gifts.

The men put our new chest & bookcase upstairs in my bedroom. We went to F. Plain in P. M. to a chicken supper at Ephratah. Then we stayed at Berner’s for a while & played Pinochle.

We attended church at Crum Creek. Then we went to dinner put on by the Benefit Club for Senior Citizens. We took Margaret & Charles & called on Eleanor & Fancher.

Herbert went to St. J. to get his hair cut. Then he went to Ft. Plain to the bank, post office & Agway. We went to Savac Dinner at St. J.

I went to F. Plain to the hairdressers. I went alone. Herbert helped the men. They put chopped cornstalks in our silo.

We left for Cortland about 9:35 A. M. It was a beautiful day. We went to our Motel, & it is very nice. We ate lunch not far from here. In evening we went to grange building for dinner. We stayed for entertainment by Bert Morse. Then we sang and some danced. We came back with Mr. & Mrs. Richard.

After breakfast we went to Grange Bldg. for bus tour of Cornell Campus. We ate lunch at Grange Bldg. The Ray Alexanders spoke on “Traveling in India,” Vicky May told about Grange trips. In the evening we ate at Shamrock Restaurant. Then we went to Theater to see a play.

We went for breakfast. Then we went back to Motel & packed up to leave. We went to Devotional Service at the Grange Bldg. Bert Morse spoke. At noon a dinner was served at Grange Bldg. Then we went to see the Houcks but they were not home. So we went to Marjorie Lees & stayed all night.

We had a very nice visit with Marjorie. We stayed until lunch. Then we went to call on the Smiths. They, as well as Marjorie, gave me lots of cloth for bed pads. Then we went home.

I went to L. C. W. meeting at Crum Creek. It was held at Mary Groff’s. We had a good attendance and a nice meeting. Pastor gave the lesson.

When I was coming onto the porch from getting the mail, I stubbed my toe & fell headlong. I had an awful time to get to telephone to call Crum Creek.

I crocheted on my afghan. Herbert helped at Crum Creek. They drew haylage from the old farm. I felt better than I expected I would.

We attended Grange meeting at C. Creek. Etta & Lulu went with us. Keith got home from Syracuse in time to help draw corn & to attend grange meeting. We made apple sauce & canned 8 qts.

I wrote up the minutes of grange meeting for the papers.

We went to Oneonta to go to Brasee’s Apt. Store. I bought 2 pr. of slippers (blue & tan). I also bought some material to use to stamp centennial shield.

I did the ironing. We canned the pears which we had bought near Oneonta the previous day.

We froze squash.

Herbert helped at C. Creek. We canned 6 qts. of grapes. Ida & George went with us to a card party at Stone Arabia Grange.

Herbert helped at C. Creek. They finished cutting corn across from the house. Herbert phoned the Hamiltons & they expect to come down Sunday. I canned 4 qts of plums Friday.

Herbert helped the men draw corn all day. I fell coming onto the porch & had an awful time getting up on my feet. I got Juanita on the telephone.

We went to church at Crum Creek. The Hamiltons came about 10 o’clock. Then we went after lunch to C. Creek to church. We ate dinner at the “Manor” at East Creek.

The Hamiltons went home after dinner. We went to Bessie Gottung’s funeral. We bought the amethyst jewelry from Ruth Sheffield.

We canned 15 qts of sweet apples. I went to DAR meeting.

I went with Hilda & Emmett to Richmondville. Hilda & I attended Fall Assembly of L. C. W.

We went to the bank in P. M. Then I went up to Altas, when Herbert went to Crum Creek. I rode up to Keith Herbert’s, when Alta & Floyd went up to Ferne’s for her birthday.

I went up to see Alta & Floyd, when Herbert went to C. Creek in P. M. In the evening Karen came up to show us their baby daughter, Annette.

We went to see Susan & their new baby (Wayne Michael). We attended C. Creek church. Then we went to see Margaret at the Hospital.

We got up early and did the washing. Herbert did the chores at the barn. He also did a lot of odd jobs which needed to be done.

I did the ironing. We went to the bank and Martha A. showed me where I had written a deposit twice. This is what made our account overdrawn.

We stopped for the Berners & took them to the pancake supper at Starkville. Then we stopped & played Pinochle with Ida & George.

Herbert came home from C. Creek & went to bed. He did not feel well at all. Keith R. and Dean took me to the grange hall. It was installation of officers. Mr. Rowland brought back my table cloth on which I had won 2nd prize at the State Grange.

I wrote the grange notes. I worked a while on cancer pads. We didn’t go to Methodist supper as Herbert didn’t feel well enough.

November 3, 1975

We went to Manlins to attend Libbie Call’s Funeral. After going to the cemetery, we went to Fox’s for dinner. We went to Berner’s to play Pinochle in the evening.

November 4, 1975

Herbert took me up to Alta’s for the L. C. W. meeting. I read the notes of the Fall Assembly at Richmondville, which Hilda asked me to write up & read. We went down to vote.

November 5, 1975

Herbert put the money in the bank. I bought a guard for my amethyst ring. It is beautiful. Margaret is staying with Harold & Dorothy.

November 6, 1975

Herbert left early for Crum Creek. They put in most of the corn in the field next to the barnyard. We watched the Waltons in evening.

Another beautiful day. I just finished making an apple pie & a plum pie. We attended the minstrel show at the Elem. School in St. J.

I drove Herbert up to C. Creek. Then at 9:45 I drove down to the hairdressers. I went after Herbert in P. M. It rained hard in the evening & night.

We attended church at C. Creek. The Gideons explained their work. Then we went to Verona to see Esther & Pete & family. Marion & Veba, & the Lundgrens were there.

We did the washing. Herbert went to C. Creek & helped the men until noon. Then it rained. He came home & we went up to see Eva & Marjorie Hamilton.

It was a beautiful day. The Hamiltons took us for a ride around Marcellus. On the way home we stopped at Richfield Springs & brought back the heads from the cask tractor.

Marie and Chalmer Hileman came about 2:30 P. M. We were so glad to see them. Herbert showed them the pictures of our Caribbean trip.

We went up to St. J. for dinner. Then we went up to see Keith H. & Juanita. Then we came home & they started to go to see the Neffs. I fell in the kitchen. We went to L. C. W. meeting at St. J.

I am so lame this morning that I can scarcely move. Herbert went up to St. J. to the Commun. Dinner. Herbert & Keith drew 3 loads of corn.

We watched T. V. in A. M. Then at 12 o’clock we went up to Keith Herberts, where we had been invited to dinner. We stayed until 5:00 & then in the evening watched a good show on T. V.

We went to the Grange hall. As there lacked 1 of having enough for a meeting, we had the program & had a good time.

Herbert & I went up to Newport to an auction. We bought several things. We started home at 1:00 & Herbert & Keith drew in corn until dark.

We went to C. Creek to church. A lay preacher from Gloversville preached. Then we went to call on Mae & Judd Chase.


December

December 1, 1975

We did a large washing and we dried the clothes in the house. The men drew 2 loads of corn. It was a nice day.

December 2, 1975

I did the ironing and it was a big one. Herbert went to church council meeting at Lester Mosher’s. I watched TV until about 11 o’clock,

December 3, 1975

Keith R & Family arrived home last night a little after midnight. He came in our house today and told us when they arrived in Stillwater, where Ann & Jack live.

December 4, 1975

I made bed pads and bandages. I wrote more cards.

December 5, 1975

Herbert drove trucks at C. Creek. We washed & ironed the dining room curtains. I also wrote Christmas cards.

December 6, 1975

It was a rainy day. Herbert did the cleaning as Madeliene was ill. We went to Berners and played Pinochle in the evening.

December 7, 1975

A bright cold day. We attended church at C. Creek. It was communion. Then we went to Dolgeville & saw Margaret & Charles. We ate at the Valmar.

December 8, 1975

We went up to dinner at the Benefit Club, put on for the Senior Citizens. We had a nice time.

December 9, 1975

I wrote cards and worked on bed pads.

December 10, 1975

We went to the Community House in P. M. to regular meeting of the Senior Citizens. F. Christianee showed movies. They gave each one a Christmas present.

December 11, 1975

Herbert Davis, Sr., was found dead in his garage. He had died of a heart attack. Ivan Gray came to put an entrance into dining room so that Herbert can plug in to get light for his violets.

December 12, 1975

Grange was called off. Herbert went up to Capece’s Funeral Parlor in the evening after he took Keith H. & Don Simons home. They had opened the silo.

December 13, 1975

We attended Herbert Davis’ funeral at C. Creek. The church was full.

December 14, 1975

We went to church. Then we went up to see Eric & Alice, but they were not home. We ate at the restaurant this side of Herkimer.

December 15, 1975

We did the washing. I wrote cards. Mrs. Van Vaulkenberg came in P. M. to see Herbert about a questionnaire she had. We attended Christmas concert at F. P. High School.

December 16, 1975

We attended the DAR Christmas party at the Community House at St. Johnsville. We had a very enjoyable time.

December 17, 1975

We went to Christmas dinner at St. Johnsville High School. Then we listened to the practice by the Jr. High choir.

December 18, 1975

We went to F. Plain after Christmas presents. We accomplished a lot & wrapped most of them. It was a cold sunshiny day.

December 19, 1975

It is Harold Handy’s birthday. I went for a hair appointment. Herbert bought some more presents. I ironed the parlor curtains. I worked on my quilt.

December 20, 1975

Madeliene was here. She housecleaned the parlor.

December 21, 1975

We went to Crum Creek to church. Then we went up to see the Carlsons, but they weren’t home. We ate supper at the diner this side of Herkimer.

December 23, 1975

We went to Fort Plain to buy a few more Christmas presents. We went to the community supper at Crum Creek grange hall & then to Christmas entertainment at the church.

December 24, 1975

We washed the dishes from the grange hall. I made more rolls of bandages.

December 25, 1975

We spent Christmas down at Keith Raymonds. We had a very good time. It was fun to watch the children open their presents. We went to service at St. Johnsville at 10 A. M.

December 26, 1975

I spent quite a lot of time working on my Centennial quilt. Karen & Tom with Rebeccah and Annette stopped in to see us.

December 27, 1975

Herbert didn’t feel well. I worked on a puzzle which we had gotten for Christmas. We received $200 back, which we had sent for the Alsapula trip.

December 28, 1975

Herbert felt much better. We attended church at Crum Creek. We had baked chicken with “Shake & Bake.” We enjoyed it.

December 29, 1975

We did the washing. Herbert went to Fort Plain. I worked on bed pads and on my quilt. We worked some on the puzzle.

December 30, 1975

I did the ironing. We made cranberry relish to take to Juanita’s the next night.

December 31, 1975

We were invited up to Juanita’s & Keiths for supper. The Corbetts were there also. After we had finished supper we played 6 handed pinochle.
