January

January 1, 1977

We were invited down to Janice’s & Keiths for New Years. There were not as many as there had been for Christmas.

January 2, 1977

We took down the Christmas tree and put away all of the decorations. Herbert went to F. Plain to get my check cashed & to get some groceries.

January 3, 1977

It snowed all day. Herbert & I worked on our puzzle. I sewed on my quilt. Madeliene came to clean. We did the washing.

January 4, 1977

I did the ironing. I worked quite a lot on the quilt.

January 6, 1977

I fixed liners for bed pads. We finished the jig-saw puzzle, which we received for Christmas. I worked on my quilt in P. M.

January 7, 1977

Herbert took a load of furniture down to Randall in A. M. I made bed pads after I washed breakfast dishes. Jack & Ann were here for a little while.

January 8, 1977

We attended an auction at Randall. We bought a few articles. It was a very cold day, on account of a very strong wind.

January 9, 1977

We attended church at Crum Creek. Then we went to Dolgeville & ate dinner at Valmar Hotel. Charles & Margaret

were there & we had a good visit.

January 10, 1977

I wrote up the grange news and mailed them. I worked on my needlepoint. It begins to get easier for me.

January 11, 1977

A very cold blustery day. It took the men a long time to get buckets thawed out. Herbert sat down on a stand & it didn’t hold him. He is lame and sore tonight.

January 12, 1977

Keith R. plowed out our west driveway in P. M. Then Herbert went to St. J. I worked on my petit point picture & worked on my quilt. We listened to TV in evening.

January 13, 1977

We expected Mr. Looman to come to buy antiques, but his truck broke down. I worked some on my petit point picture. Hazel Swanson came up in the evening.

January 14, 1977

We had Henry Rowland & his wife come here to install the grange officers. A very snowy night. Not a large attendance, but worthwhile.

January 15, 1977

Madeliene was here to clean up the house. I worked on my petit point and also quilted on the quilt.

January 16, 1977

We attended Crum Creek church. An unusally large attendance as it was the Mosher Reunion & they attended in a body. Alta went with us. Then we stayed at her house for supper.

January 17, 1977

We did the washing in A. M. I quilted quite a lot. I also basted new edging on one of my blankets. I couldn’t get to sleep, so came down stairs for 3 hrs.

January 18, 1977

A very cold night, 15 below zero this morning. Herbert started up a wood fire in the laundry. I did the ironing & worked on my embroidery in P. M.

January 19, 1977

Herbert sat down on a small table in the kitchen. It didn’t hold him, and when it broke, Herbert went on the floor. It wrenched his back.

January 20, 1977

Herbert tried to do some work in the laundry, but it was a task on account of his aches & pains from the accident of previous day.

January 21, 1977

Herbert didn’t fell very well. He had to get the laundry cleaned out, but couldn’t finish it. We went to bed early, as Herbert didn’t feel well.

January 22, 1977

The ambulance came after Herbert & took him to Bassett Hospital. He is in room 303 and no-one is in the other bed. Keith took me over yesterday P. M.

January 23, 1977

Keith took me over to see Herbert. Dorothy & Harold Handy had been there to see him. Keith & family went to see Karen & Tom & family in the evening.

January 24, 1977

Janice came up & helped me get the L. C. W. account straitened out. She drove me over to see Herbert (with out car).

January 25, 1977

Janice took me over to see Herbert. I talked with Ethel Haig, who is in a room only 4 doors from the room where Herbert is.

January 26, 1977

They said at Cooperstown that Herbert could come home and stay all night and that Keith would take him to Schenectady Hospital. I rode along.

January 27, 1977

Keith took Herbert & me to Schenectady Hospital. Herbert had a “brain Scan.” We didn’t get to Cooperstown until 12:30. Keith & I ate in the cafeteria.

January 28, 1977

I did the washing this A. M. Madeliene was here to clean after school. Herbert just phoned. It is a little after 7 P. M. It is snowing very hard.

January 29, 1977

Herbert phoned to have Keith come after him. It surely seemed good to have him home. He was tired, but glad to be here.

January 30, 1977

Keith took me to church. It was “youth” Sunday and the S. J. pupils took part in the Service. The snow was drifting bad, when we were on the way home.

January 31, 1977

A cold blustery day, but sunshiny part of the time. Herbert & I had a good dinner & supper. We played some Pinochle. I worked some on my quilt.


February

February 1, 1977

I worked on my quilt. I also spent a lot of time making bandages. I also knitted on leprosy bandages. It was a very cold, blustery day.

February 2, 1977

Ida & George Berner came up in P. M. We played Pinochle & then we served fruited jello, sugar cookies & tea. Herbert & I listened to the President’s message.

February 3, 1977

It was stormy. I worked on my quilt. We played Pinochle. We were glad we could stay in the house.

February 4, 1977

We went to F. Plain. Herbert went to the bank, to the Fort Plain Pharmacy. Then we went to Berners & played Pinochle. We stopped after that in the Victory Store. I went in & helped pick out groceries.

February 5, 1977

A stormy day. Herbert worked some in the laundry. I worked on my quilt & did quite a lot on it. We also played some Pinochle.

February 6, 1977

A cold blustery day. Keith R. thought we had better not try to go to church. He & his family went (only 11 took Communion). Herbert called Marie Haileman on the telephone.

February 7, 1977

A very cold day. We stayed in the house all of the time. I worked on my quilt. Marta didn’t feel well and stayed home from school.

February 8, 1977

Ida & George Berner were here in P. M. Herbert & I listened to T. V. in the evening. He talked with Janice on the phone.

February 9, 1977

We went after the Berners & we all went to St. Johnsville to eat dinner. Then we went to Community House after the Senior Citizens meeting, Frank Cristiance sold the which were brought to an auction.

February 10, 1977

We went up to see Margaret & Charles in P. M. Then we stopped to see Juanita & her children. I was glad to hold the twins. They are adorable.

February 11, 1977

Herbert worked in the laundry most of the day. I worked on my quilt a lot. It was a very nice warm day.

February 12, 1977

The Berners went with us to an auction at the Maple Town Grange Hall. I washed the glassware, which we bought, and sorted out the linen doilies, etc.

February 13, 1977

We attended church service at C. Creek. Then we went up to see Etta Allen at L. Falls Hospital. We ate out supper at the Hospital.

February 15, 1977

Esther had us come over the evening before for a chicken dinner. We attended the Baptist Church in Vernon. Betty

Black went with us. We came home in P. M. We went to F. Plain & went with Ida & George to dinner at their church. Those who had birthdays in Feb. were honored & I was 1 of them. They gave us nice corsages.

February 16, 1977

We went up to Cooperstown Hospital. Herbert went to see the doctor. It was a nice sunny day, but cold. I knitted while waiting for Herbert.

February 17, 1977

Ida & George came up in P. M. We played Pinochle and had a good time. Ida bought some dresser scarves and a set of 4 glass containers from me.

February 18, 1977

I think it was this day when Etta came home from the L. Falls Hospital.

February 19, 1977

I had a very severe head hold & I didn’t feel well. I worked some on my quilt and at the desk work.

February 20, 1977

This was Sunday, and it is my 78th birthday. Herbert took Keith to church & he stopped at Juanita’s for the farewell lunch she had for John & Eunica Corbett.

February 21, 1977

My cold was a little better. I did some crewel work. Herbert worked on furniture a lot. Keith stopped in a few minutes in the evening. I talked with Etta & Alta on telephone.

February 22, 1977

I worked on my quilt. I also made cloth bandages. Margaret called on the phone & told us that Wm. Thresher was in St. Lukes Hospital. He had a severe heart attack.

February 23, 1977

We went down to F. Plain. We went up to the high school to see Feston Diefendorf about my insurance. Then we went to Berners & played Pinochle. Then we went to a pancake supper at the basement of Episcopal Church.

February 24, 1977

I worked on my quilt in forenoon. In the afternoon Mr. Newman came down to get a load of furniture, which we wanted to send up to the auction on Sat.

February 25, 1977

The grange meeting was here in the evening. We had a good meeting. Herbert went after the St. J. folks & Ennett & Laura brought Alfred.

February 26, 1977

We went to Newman’s auction all day & then to Betty’s in the evening. We bought a lot of things. We were very tired.

February 27, 1977

We went to church at Crum Creek. Then we stopped at the Masonic Temple & enjoyed a smorgasboard dinner.

February 28, 1977

We did a large washing. In P. M. we went to F. Plain to the bank. I also left my light coat at the cleaners. We went to Berners & then to see Susie & the children.


March

March 1, 1977

I did the ironing in A. M. Then in P. M, Eva & Monroe

Hamilton came. We invited the Berners up for dinner. We played 6 handed pinochle.

March 2, 1977

We went up to Juanita’s in P. M. The children were all there. Luke was home with a toothache. Then we went up to see Margaret & Charles. We ate supper at diner.

March 3, 1977

We were invited down to Berners in P. M. When we got back home, my bedspread had come. So I enjoyed working on it for a couple of hours.

March 4, 1977

I got a lot done on my quilt. It is fun to work on it and I think it is pretty.

March 5, 1977

We went to the auction at Betty’s at night. We bought quite a few things.

March 6, 1977

Sunday we went to church. Then we came home & didn’t go anywhere.

March 7, 1977

We went to Fort Plain to the bank, & to the 5 & 10¢ store. We went in Samuel’s store & I bought him 2 everyday summer shirts. I got my coat from the cleaner.

March 8, 1977

George and Ida brought Herbert’s cologne and After Shave Lotion for his birthday. We went to Little Falls for a ride.

March 9, 1977

Juanita came down in the P. M. and brought the 5 children. She brought me a crewel kit for my birthday. I held Rachel and Israel sat on Herbert’s lap. They were so happy.

March 10, 1977

Margaret & Charles came in the P. M. It was a beautiful warm, sunshiny day. I worked on my quilt.

March 11, 1977

We went to the Grange hall in the evening, but there were not enough for a meeting. Madeliene was here to clean when she got home from school.

March 12, 1977

We went to the auction at Newville. It was a beautiful day. Then we went to the auction at Betty’s in the evening. We were tired when we got home.

March 13, 1977

We went to Crum Creek to church. Chad Handy was baptized. Then we went to dinner at the Catholic Hall at St. J.

March 14, 1977

We listened to “Little House on Pairie”. We did a very large washing. I ironed quite a lot.

March 15, 1977

I finished the ironing. Herbert went to Nelliston & got 2 seats from Klumps.

March 16, 1977

I went for a hair appointment. I embroidered a lot on my quilt. We went to Lenten Service at St. Johnsville.

March 17, 1977

We went up to Marcellus to visit the Hamiltons. We had a real good time. We stayed until Sunday A. M. Then we went to Crum Creek Service.

March 18, 1977

We played Pinochle in A. M. We went to Skaneateles & ate dinner there. We also went to a large antique place & bought some antiques.

March 19, 1977

We attended grange and had a real good time. A woman showed slides of Marcellus, which were very interesting.

March 20, 1977

After breakfast, we started home. Roads were bare until we reached Mohawk. From there it was quite a lot of snow.

March 21, 1977

We went to church at Crum Creek. We attended church at the Reformed Church in the evening. The Berners went with us.

March 22, 1977

We unpacked and put our clothes away. I washed & ironed a few things. We went to Berners in P. M. and played Pinochle.

March 23, 1977

I sewed a lot on my quilt. Herbert worked on repairing some antiques. It was a snowy & blustery day.

March 24, 1977

It was stormy all day. I worked on my quilt. Janice brought us a loaf of nut bread.

March 25, 1977

There was no grange meeting as no-one could get in the hall. I worked a lot on my quilt & Herbert worked in the laundry.

March 26, 1977

Keith R. was here in P. M. and worked on his project. I worked on my quilt. We went to Betty’s auction in the evening.

March 27, 1977

We went to Stewart’s Ice Cream Parlor for dinner with the Berners. Then we went to C. Creek to church. From there we got Alma & went to see Ethel Haig at the Cloisters.

March 29, 1977

Berners were here & played pinochle. We went up to see Juanita & the children. I held Israel & Ida held Rachel.

March 30, 1977

I had a “permanent.” We took my good quilt down to enter in Study Class contest. We ate dinner at MacDonalds.

March 31, 1977

We went to Berners & played Pinochle in evening. We had a good time. We did the washing.

I worked on my quilt. We went up to see Etta & then up to see Margaret & Charles.

April 2, 1977

It was a rainy day. I made out sales tax & sent it for first quarter in 1977. We went to Betty’s auction in evening.

April 3, 1977

We went to Crum Creek to church.

April 5, 1977

I attended L. C. W. meeting at Laura Clause’s in P. M. Herbert took me up & then came back for me at 3:45 P. M.

April 8, 1977

We attended grange meeting in evening. The Berners were here in P. M. It was a nice sunshiny day.

April 9, 1977

I washed the hall curtains and ironed them. I made a blueberry loaf of bread to take up to Juanitas on Sunday.

April 10, 1977

We went to Sunrise Service at St. Pauls church in St. Johnsville. Then we came home. We went to C. Creek to church. Then we were invited to Juanita’s for supper.

April 11, 1977

I worked quite a lot on my bedspread.

April 12, 1977

We did the washing. I did part of the ironing. I washed the hall curtains & ironed them.

April 13, 1977

I finished the ironing. We washed the parlor curtains and I ironed them.

April 14, 1977

We went down to the Berners in the P. M. and played Pinochle.

April 15, 1977

In the P. M. Ida & George went with us to Middleville. Then we stopped & played Pinochle with Eric & Alice Carlson.

April 16, 1977

We went to the dinner at St. J. Lutheran Church. In the evening Ida & George went with us to a card party at the Legion Hall in F. Plain.

April 17, 1977

We attended church at Crum Creek. Then in P. M. we went up to see Sophie & Jola Wolanski at Frankfort, RD. We had a nice time.

April 18, 1977

We did the washing early in the morning. The clothes dried very well. I did a lot of the ironing.

April 19, 1977

We cleaned the back porch & put the plants out there. It looks real nice. I finished the ironing.

April 20, 1977

Herbert & I went to an evening auction at Cater’s. We didn’t get home until 2 A. M. We bought quite a few things.

April 21, 1977

George & Ida Berner were here in P. M. We played Pinochle. In the forenoon Herbert & I brought down the quilts, etc to have them ready to show the people of study class on Sat.

April 28, 1977

It was a nice day. We went to Fort Plain & I bought a pair of blue slippers. Keith Herbert & family & Marta & Keith were here in the evening.

April 29, 1977

We went to grange meeting. We had a good meeting. I was very tired when I got home. It was a beautiful, moonlit night.

April 30, 1977

I wrote up the grange notes for the 2 newspapers. We went to a sale at F. Plain, put on by the Business girls. I bought some things.

May 1, 1977

We went to C. C. to church. Then we got Ida & George & we went to the Johnstown Hotel for dinner. From there we went to see Iris Ross & husband. Then we went to call on Arthur & Mabel Cane.

May 2, 1977

Herbert went up to Harold Handy’s to get some work done. We didn’t do the washing.

May 3, 1977

I worked on getting things ready to take to Fair at Middleville. I have things pretty well under control. I went up to see Alta in evening, while Herbert went to church council meeting.

May 4, 1977

We were invited up to Etta’s for dinner. Then we went to St Johnsville Cemetery, where they buried Mrs. Deavitt Snell. We took out more insurance.

May 6, 1977

Herbert went to get his hair cut. I helped get things ready to take to Middleville. Herbert packed the car. We left here 25 minutes to seven the next morning.

May 7, 1977

We went to Middleville to Cherry Hall, where we were to fix a booth. There were 15 tables. We had started real early. We sold $65.00 worth. We stopped at Barne’s Restaurant for supper.

May 8, 1977

We unloaded the car in A. M. We went to church at C. Creek. We ate supper at the Jack & Jill Restaurant. In evening we went to L. Falls to hear the Symphony Orchestra.

May 9, 1977

I worked at books in dining room. Then I worked on my bedspread. I laid down for 2 hours in P. M. Janice & Marta spopped in here in evening. Janice brought us in apple pie & gave me nice Mother’s Day gift.

May 10, 1977

We had a graduation announcement from Jack. It is very nice. Herbert worked in the laundry & I worked some in the dining room.

May 11, 1977

I worked on bedspread in A. M. After lunch we rested a while & then we went to Fort Plain. After a few errands, we went to Berners & played Pinochle.

May 13, 1977

There was no grange meeting. The farmers were very busy planting corn.

May 14, 1977

We went to an auction at Fireman’s Park in Fort Plain. It was a beautiful, sunshiny day. We bought quite a lot of things.

May 15, 1977

We went to church. Then we went to the community hall in Lasselsville where the neighbors put on a full course supper in honor of Robert & Betty Johnsons 25th wedding anniversary.

May 16, 1977

We didn’t do the washing. Herbert worked at mowing the lawns, & worked some in the garden.

May 17, 1977

I worked on the record book. I went to DAR meeting at St. Johnsville. Herbert went to Berners while I was at the meeting. Mae Chase & Nina Dixon were here in P. M.

May 18, 1977

A beautiful day. I got the gladiola ready to plant. Herbert finished the planting of the garden. He took me down to see Ethel Haig in afternoon.

May 19, 1977

I went to the hairdressers. Then Herbert & I went to Stewart’s. Then we came home.

May 20, 1977

Herbert trimmed the lawns with the push mower.

May 21, 1977

We went to a large auction at Newmans. We stopped to see Dorothy & Harold on the way back.

May 22, 1977

We went to church. Then we called on Mr. & Mrs. Rutherford Downs. We ate at the Jack Frost Restaurant at Palatine Bridge.

May 23, 1977

Herbert & Harold went after the “Shop Smith” at Newmans & took it to Harold’s. We did the washing. I did all of it except hanging up clothes.

May 24, 1977

We went to an auction at Episcopal church in L. Falls. Ida went with us. We bought a lot of things. We didn’t have room for all of the things in the car.

May 25, 1977

Herbert went to L. Falls to get furniture. Dean & Mike helped unload it. They put part of it on front porch.

May 26, 1977

A beautiful, sunshiny day. Herbert went to F. Plain. Ida Berner had a bad attack of shingles. Herbert drove her car & took her to Canajoharie.

May 27, 1977

We went to grange meeting. We had a good meeting.

We went to an auction at Sprout Brook. I wrote up the account

May 29, 1977

We went to Margaret & Charles after church. I drove the car to Dolgeville. We ate supper with them.

May 30, 1977

We got up early & did the washing. The clothes dried very well. We went to yard sale at Eric & Alice’s. After supper we went back to get some more things.

May 31, 1977

I did the ironing. Herbert took a bouquet of flowers down to Ida Berner.

June 1, 1977

We got the car packed to take things down to Caters. I worked a lot on my bedspread.

June 2, 1977

It was a nice day. Herbert & I took a load of things over to Caters. In P. M. Margaret and Charles came. A little latter Marjorie Lee & Nina Levansaler came.

June 3, 1977

We went in the evening to Perthshire Grange. Pomona Grange from Washington Co. put on the good program. There were 36 of them & 36 from Fulton Co.

June 4, 1977

We went to an auction given by Mr. Newman, but at a place called Millers Grove, between Herkimer & Utica. Dean went with us.

June 5, 1977

We went to church & took communion. Then we went to get Alta & we went up to see Marion & Veba. We got the silverware, which we had had done over.

June 6, 1977

We did the washing. The clothes dried well, and so in the P. M. I did the ironing. Some people came in A. M. & bought some antiques.

June 7, 1977

The L. C. W. meeting was held here this P. M. In the evening we listened to Billy Graham. Then Herbert went to Council meeting.

June 8, 1977

Alta and Hazel came to look at our antiques. They bought some. I went with Catherine Feldstein & Mabel Newman to DAR meeting at Richfield Springs.

June 9, 1977

Herbert loaded up our car with furniture & we took it down to Caters. When we got back to F. Plain, we ate dinner at Stewarts. I worked on making bandages in P. M.

June 10, 1977

We went to Crum Creek to grange. Kolaneka and Mayfield put on the program for Neighbor Night.

June 11, 1977

We left about 8 o’clock to go to Nichols to see Marjorie Lee. We had a very good time while we were there.

June 12, 1977

We attended the Methodist church in Nichols. Then we went to a dinner at a grange hall. In evening we went to a wonderful concert at a church in the country.

June 13, 1977

We left Marjorie around 9 o’clock. We stopped to see Agnes Osterhout & her husband. We unwrapped the things, which we had bought on our trip.

June 14, 1977

We didn’t do the washing. I worked on my books in A. M. We went up to Community House to the Retired Teachers dinner. It was good.

June 15, 1977

Janice went to L. Falls Hospital. Herbert & I went down to Berners in late P. M. I finished the tax report for my business & mailed it.

June 16, 1977

We went up to see Janice in P. M. Then we went up to see Margaret & Charles. From there we went to eat supper at the “Green Acres” restaurant.

June 17, 1977

We went to a card party at the S. School room in the Universalist church. We had a good time.

June 18, 1977

Janice was better & played the organ as usual the next day. We were glad she was O. K. again.

June 19, 1977

We attended church at Crum Creek at 11 A. M. Then we went to Klock’s Park & had our dinner there. It was a beautiful day & we enjoyed it immensely.

June 20, 1977

We did the washing. It was sunshiny day. & the clothes dried well. I ironed quite a lot in P. M.

June 21, 1977

Tri-Chapter meeting was held at Community House in St. Johnsville. A woman spoke on the early history of the Palatines.

June 23, 1977

We went to grange hall. As we lacked one for a meeting, we made plans for the rummage sal.

June 24, 1977

Herbert sowed some lettuce seed in the garden. It rained in P. M.

June 25, 1977

We went to church at Crum Creek. Then Alta, Herbert & I went to Mechanicsville to see Iva & Philip Wendell. It was a very hard rain storm when we were near there.

June 26, 1977

John & Sophie Wolanski came to call in the evening. Ida & George Berner were here & played Pinochle in the afternoon.

June 27, 1977

A beautiful day. The men put in 600 bales of hay in the barn at Keith Herberts. Herbert & I got a lot of things ready to take to rummage sale.

June 29, 1977

We went to Berners in evening and played Pinochle. Ida was feeling better.

July 1, 1977

The Berners went with us up to Manlins to visit the Hamiltons. We had a very good time. We played a lot of Pinochle.

July 2, 1977

We went to Betty’s to an auction, but it was called off as enough people didn’t come. It had been put in the paper incorrectly.

July 3, 1977

We went to 11 o’clock service at the Crum Creek Church, it was communion. We drove up to see Eleanor & Fancher, but didn’t find them home. We drove farther & bought dishes at a yard sale.

July 4, 1977

We got up early and did the washing. I did the greater part of the ironing. The Berners and Annie came up in evening. We played Pinochle.

July 5, 1977

I ironed some more. We went up to Grange hall. I attended L. C. W. meeting at Mary Groffs & then went over to help mark the articles for the rummage sale.

July 6, 1977

We worked at the grange rummage sale. Lots of people came.

July 7, 1977

We worked at the rummage sale. We made $114. We have to clean up the hall soon.

July 8, 1977

We went to Raymond Deifendorf’s sale. We bought quite a lot of nice things.

July 9, 1977

We went to Mason Inn, near Sidney. There were 16 present of our crowd. We were glad to see them. It brought back fond memories of our Alaska trip.

July 10, 1977

We went to church. Then we drove up to Christian’s to eat dinner. It was a very beautiful day.

July 11, 1977

Herbert bought from Juanita the things which were in the china closet. I was pleased to have the things which I had enjoyed seeing when I was at home yet.

July 12, 1977

Ennett & Laura Claus came to help Herbert get the grange hall ready. Herbert took what was left from rummage sale to put in Salvation Army place.

July 13, 1977

Herbert went to the grange hall and checked to see if the grange hall was ready for the meeting to be held the next evening.

July 14, 1977

We attended the Pomona Grange meeting at Crum Creek. I got 2nd prize on my bedspread.

July 15, 1977

We went to get Berners & took them to the card party at Newville.

July 16, 1977

We went to see the old Dutch barn at Salt Springville. We came back through Hellsville. I stopped in F. Plain & bought a dresser scarf to embroider.

July 17, 1977

We went to church. Keith R. preached the sermon. Alta went with us up to Veba’s. When we got back, Alta asked us to stay for supper.

July 18, 1977

We did a very large washing. It was a beautiful day and the clothes dried well. We canned beans. We went to Berners in the evening.

July 19, 1977

I did the large ironing. We canned 7 qts. of beans. Janice came up to pick beans. Herbert helped her some.

July 20, 1977

We canned 7 more cans of beans. We also canned 3 qts of pickles. We went to F. Plain to get groceries & then went to Berners & played Pinochle.

July 21, 1977

We put the beans in the cellar way. Herbert went to F. Plain to get the car fixed. Leland & Iva Bellinger came to call. We had a good visit.

Herbert worked in the laundry. I worked on my pair of pillowcases. Herbert picked a bouquet of wild phlox. I went for hair appointment.

I canned up Golden Glow pickles. They turned out well. I also canned some saccharine pickes.

We went to C. Creek to church. Keith R. preached a good sermon. Then we went up to Dolgeville to Margaret & Charles. They went with us for dinner at the Valmar.

We did the washing & part of the ironing.

July 26, 1977

Herbert weeded in the garden a while & mowed the lawns. I finished the ironing.

July 27, 1977

Eva & Monroe came. After dinner we went up to Juanitas to see the twins & the rest of the childre. We went to Stewarts for supper.

We played Pinochle. Then we went to Speculaor & ate at a restaurant up there. Berners came up & played cards & we had lunch.

We went to an auction at Newmans at Newport. We bought quite a few things. We unloaded the station wagon. Herbert came up after pickles & Berners came to play cards.

We attended church at the old Palatine church. Rev. Dingman preached. We came home for lunch & then went up to see Kurt Loekner.

August 1, 1977

We did a large washing. It was a good day to dry clothes. We listened to the Billy Graham show in the evening. Mrs. Fuller called & asked us to come to their house Wed.

August 2, 1977

I finished doing the ironing. I also embroidered quite a lot.

August 3, 1977

We went to the Fullers & spent the day. The weather couldn’t have been nicer. We had a very delightful time.

August 4, 1977

I started embroidering 3 bibs for our sale. They are very attractive.

August 5, 1977

We cannot 14 qts of apple sauce and 4 qts. of saccarine pickles. We went to Palatine Union Grange to play Pinochle. The Berners went with us.

August 6, 1977

We went to Service at the Reformed Church in St. Johnsville. Ann & Jack were there. They had come up to Keiths Sat. night.

We did the washing. The clothes dried, after it stopped raining. I did part of the ironing.

I finished the ironing in A. M. We went to F. Plain in P. M. We did some errands & then went to Berners to play Pinochle.

I worked a lot on my mixer cover that I am embroidering. We canned pickles. Herbert sold 3 doz. glads.

Berners were here in P. M. I worked on getting things ready for the sale we expect to have at the grange hall sometime soon. Herbert sold 3 doz of gladiolas.

August 12, 1977

We are getting ready to go after the Berners to go to card party at Newville. The sun has come out and it is very nice.

Herbert picked pickles. We canned the small one & gave the rest to Barbara & Bob Goldstein. They left early in the morning for home.

We went to church at the Methodist Church in St. J. Keith R. preached the sermon. Then we went to Janice’s & Keiths. They had 40 there for dinner in their back yard.

August 15, 1977

We got up early and did the washing. I also did part of the ironing.

I finished the ironing. We went down to F. Plain in P. M. Before doing several errands, we went to Berners & played Pinochle.

August 17, 1977

We canned 7 qts. of pears.

We stayed home & worked. We canned 6 more qts. of pears. They are very good.

We accomplished a lot of work – we took things down for the auction at Randall this P. M. In the evening we went to card party at Palatine Union grange.

I worked at getting things ready to be taken to Grange Hall. Herbert & Keith R. took up the things, which were ready. I fell coming in from porch. I got Juanita & told her to get Herbert.

August 24, 1977

We went to C. Creek Grange hall in A. M. and took a load of antiques, glassware, etc. for a sale during the next 2 days.

August 26, 1977

We left for C. Creek Grange Hall about 8:20 AM. We sold quite a lot of things at our sale. From there we went to a sale at Ed King’s in F. Plain. They are leaving for Florida.

August 27, 1977

It was the last day of our sale at the grange hall. We were glad to get home. We went to Mr and Mrs Kings sale. We bought a lot of beautiful things.

August 28, 1977

We went to Snell, Zimmerman, Timmerman at Snells Bush Church. We stayed for lunch. It was a beautiful day an there was a large attendance.

We did the washing. We went up to Grange Hall to pack up dishes to bring home. I ironed some.

We canned 7 qts of tomatoes. Then I finished the ironing. Herbert picked a bushel of cucumbers & a bushel of tomatoes. I worked on my books.

We attended church at the Lutheran Church in St. Johnsville. In P. M. we went for a ride to Herkimer. Then we went to see Margaret & Charles.

We got up early and did the washing. Then we canned 7 qts of tomato juice. The Berners, Margaret & Charles Ingersoll and Keith R. and Keith H. and family.

Herbert took me up to L. C. W. meeting at Laura Clause’s. In the evening he went to Council meeting at the Evangelic Church at C. Creek.

Herbert stopped at Grange hall & took down the pricers of the things which had been left there.

Mr. Young came up & moved the rest of our things left from the sale at the grange hall. Herbert cleaned up the hall. Enough didn’t come to have grange meeting.

Herbert put a large chair back together. We went to David Fero’s wedding at Rome. Keith, Janice, Marta & Dean went with us. We bought a bushel of peaches on way home.

We went to church in P. M. at C. Creek. We went to Lynn Cronkhites. Then we went & visited with Art & Grace Lenelser.

We washed in the forenoon. Then we canned peaches. I did the ironing.

I thought it was D. A. R. meeting but I was mistaken. Ida & George came up to play Pinochle.

We canned chili sauce. Then we went to Harold Handy’s to take some jugs up. In P. M. we went to Marshville & took 6 chairs to be repaired.

We went to card party at Palatine Grange hall. The Berner’s went with us. It was a rainy night.

Herbert brought some some chairs from C. Jane Brown. We attended rummage sale at Universalist Church in F. Plain. We went to Irene Dillenbacks in evening. I bought afghan.

We attended church at the Episcopal church in F. Plain, after we had gotten home from our church. We played Aggravation with George & Ida.

September 19, 1977

Herkimer & I went to Herkimer to the Bonnie Lee shop. Herbert bought some cane for chairs & I bought 2 samplers. We took a stool to Nancy Bowers & called on Harold Timmerman & wife.

We attended Teachers Luncheon, at Fultonville. I attended DAR at the St. Johnsville Library.

September 21, 1977

Herbert worked on dining room chairs & a library table. I worked on the sampler that Ida gave me.

The Berners were here in P. M. We served popcorn & orange juice. It rained about all day.

The Berners went with us to a card party at Newville. We took things down to Cater’s. I had a permanent at Helen Schneiders.

We attended Beth Safford’s wedding. It was very nice. We also went to the Reception at the Benefit Club.

We attended C. Creek church. It was the date of the Mosher Reunion & that side of the church was almost full. We went to call on Earl Burkdorf & family.

In A. M. Herbert went to Ephratah & bought a beautiful set of silver for us. We went to garage sale at St. J. under auspices of the Women’s Soc. of Methodist church. We went to church at St. J.

Herbert went to Fort Plain in A. M. He went to auction where Mildred Klocks dary was sold. Ida & George came up in P. M. Dean stopped in & we gave him his birthday gift.

Herbert & I started for Cortland after dinner. We went to the Downe’s Motel & unpacked our bags. It was raining.

We went down town for breakfast. We had a good meal. Then we went over to the Grange Bldg. They showed movies in A. M. The Rhythm Makers put on a good pregram.

We went downtown for breakfast. Then we went over to Grange Bldg. They took our pictures. Jack Trainer explained about wayfarer towns. In P. M. we went on tour & to show at Cortland in evening.

We went for a ride. Then in evening we went to a show in Ithaca. The auditorium was crowded.

We packed our suitcases & went down town for breakfast. Then we went over to Grange Bldg. Mr. Morse preached a very good sermon. We ate dinner there.

We played Pinochle. It was a very rainy day. I embroidered on a sampler.

We left the Hamiltons about 10:30 AM. We had a good trip home. We stopped on the way & bought apples. We canned them in the P. M.

I finished the ironing. Herbert went to the bank. He bought a battery for the car. Roy Loomen came & bought several things.

October 8, 1977

Herbert cut bushes around the bay window. I stayed home as my cold was no better. He took some saccharine pickles & golden glow pickles for the Sat. afternoon sale.

October 9, 1977

We attended church at Crum Creek. Then we went up to Dolgeville & went to Valmar Hotel for dinner. It was rainy. Keith & Janice were here in evening.

Berners, Herbert & I went to chicken dinner at St. Johnsville. They stopped here on way back & played Pinochle.

We attended grange meeting at Crum Creek. It was election of officers.

We went to Poland as Herbert thought there was an auction there. He was mistaken. We went down to Berners in P. M.

October 16, 1977

We attended church at C. Creek. Then we went to Little Falls Hospital to see Charles Ingersoll. He had come to the hospital yesterday.

We didn’t do the washing. Herbert finished cutting brush around the house.

October 18, 1977

Alta & Marion spent the afternoon with us & stayed for supper.

October 19, 1977

Matthew spent the day with us. We went to Freysbush Church to a chicken supper. Then we went to Bible Study at St. Johnsville Lutheran Church. We did the washing.

October 20, 1977

I went to hairdresser’s in A. M. Herbert went over to Fredericks after chairs which he had caned.

October 21, 1977

I did the ironing in A. M. Herbert took up glad bulbs, & washed the windows on east side of house. I made bedpads. I have them ready to sew.

October 22, 1977

We decided to go to Pa to visit the Hilemans. It was a long trip, but the weather was nice.

We went with the Hilemans to the Lutheran Church in Tyrone. It was a beautiful service.

October 24, 1977

In the P. M. the Hilemans took us on a nice ride down into the Amish Country & back by another route.

We started back about 10 A. M. We stopped at Marjorie Lee’s & stayed all night. We played Scrabble in the evening.

We left about 10:30. We took the wrong turn somewhere & came back by the way of Cortland. We stopped at Madison for dinner. We bought some antiques.

The Berners went with us to a card party at Palatine Union grange in the evening.

We went to a chicken & biscuit supper at the Lutheran Church in Fort Plain. Then we went to Berners & played Pinochle.

We went to Crum Creek to church. Then we stopped to see Harold & Dorothy. From there we went to a pipe organ concert at the Lutheran church in Little Falls.

November 1, 1977

It was a beautiful day. I did the ironing and embroidered some. I wrote to Barbara & Lynn Cronkhite. Herbert went to Council meeting.

November 4, 1977

The Berners went with us to card party at Palatine Union Grange. Herbert worked at Grange Hall in P. M.

November 5, 1977

A smorgasboard dinner was served at the Grange Hall. The proceeds were given to the C. Creek Lutheran church. We had a very nice time.

November 6, 1977

We went to C. Creek to church. It was Communion. Then we went & called on Margaret & Charles. From there we went to F. P. to Stewarts for supper.

November 7, 1977

We did the washing and ironing. We had to dry the clothes in the house. It rained all day.

November 8, 1977

Another rainy day. We went up to Lutheran Church at St. J. to eat dinner there. Then we went to Fort Plain & voted. Charles Stahl was killed near his home. No one knows who did it.

November 9, 1977

A man was here to talk about sending in our sales tax. I worked some on our accounts. We received check from Cators.

November 10, 1977

The L. C. W. meeting was here. Pastor Clark told us about a lot of things planned for this month. Keith, Herbert, Clyde Fitzer and I went to Pomona Grange at Mayfield.

November 11, 1977

I embroidered on a bureau scarf quite a lot. Grange meeting was called off as we didn’t think there would be enough people there.

November 13, 1977

We went to church at C. Creek. In the evening we went to Inghams church & listened to a group of 2 men & 2 women. They sang & the men played musical instruments.

November 14, 1977

Herbert went to the dentist’s to get his teeth cleaned. He took clothes down to the cleaners. He took 4 chairs & brought 2 back from Leon Frederick’s.

November 15, 1977

I went up to Alta’s in the evening. Herbert went to meeting at Pastor Johnson’s church in Gloversville. Alta & I played Scrabble.

November 16, 1977

We did the washing. In the evening we went to Lutheran Church at St. J. That was the last for this year for the Bible Study, which Pastor had given.

November 17, 1977

We went after clothes at the cleaners. We went to Ben Franklin store. I bought a black pocket-book. We went to Berners for a while.

November 18, 1977

We went up to St. Johnsville & had dinner at the Lutheran Church. We bought some things at their bazaar. In the P. M., the Berners came up & we played Pinochle.

November 19, 1977

I went to the hairdressers in A. M. Herbert worked on front porch, putting on plastic to keep out the wind & snow.

November 20, 1977

We went to church. Then we went to the Herkimer Hospital to see Harold Handy, who was to have an operation Tuesday A. M.

November 21, 1977

Keith took us to the Albany airport. We flew to N. Y. C. Joanne met us. It is quite a drive from where we got off the plane.

November 22, 1977

Two friends of the Schaetzels, who live near here, came over in the forenoon. Joanne had to work all day. Herbert & I played Pinochle.

November 23, 1977

Jane Schaetzel came today. She is staying at a Motel. Gordon came home at night. We went to their church in the evening for the Thanksgiving Service. Then we went to Friendly Store for ice cream.

November 24, 1977

We had a good turkey dinner at Joanne’s. Alyson’s boy friend & Jeffrey’s girl came for a while in the evening.

November 25, 1977

We played “Scrabble” with Jane. We had a nice time. We got our lunch.

November 26, 1977

We took Jane home. We went to call on Bob and Helen Farndon. It seemed so good to see them again.

November 27, 1977

Alyson couldn’t go as she had to work. So we took Jeffrey & his girl, Joanne & Gordon to a very nice restaurant. We had a very good meal.

November 28, 1977

Mr. & Mrs. Sterns came over in the afternoon and played Pinochle. We served refreshments.

November 29, 1977

In forenoon we packed our suitcases. In P. M. Joanne took us to the Islip terminal to get our plane for home. Janice & Dean met us.

We did the washing. Herbert finished putting the insulation on front porch. I embroidered some & finished bed pads.

December 1, 1977

I did the ironing in A. M. Herbert went to F. Plain to get the winter tires put on our car. In P. M. we went to F. Plain to the stores & then to Berners to play Pinochle.

December 3, 1977

I wrote a lot of Christmas cards. We watched T. V. in the evening. We played some Pinochle.

December 4, 1977

We went to church at Crum Creek. It was Communion. Then we went to get Alta & went to Marion & Veba’s. Esther & family came there fore supper. Alta went home with them.

December 5, 1977

We played “Aggravation” in A. M. We bought a board from Veba, which he had made. We stayed all night.

December 6, 1977

We started home from Veba’s after dinner. It snowed hard all the way home. Herbert had to stop several times to take snow from windshield.

December 7, 1977

We went to the bank. Then we went to Berners & played Pinochle. We went to bed early.

December 8, 1977

Mr. Harrison brought our new television. Keith & Juanita & the children stopped in for a little while. We did not go anywhere.

December 9, 1977

We didn’t have grange meeting as the snow was piled in front of the door, so the men would have had to do a lot of shoveling.

December 10, 1977

We went to the auction at Newport & we bought a lot of things. We unpacked some of the things, which we had bought.

December 11, 1977

Wayne & Herbert went to Newport to get things, which we had bought at the auction. In P. M. we went to church & then came home.

December 12, 1977

We did the washing. We had a big wash, as we put in a lot of towels, etc from the auction.

December 13, 1977

I did part of the ironing. Then I worked on the books. I got quite a lot accomplished.

December 14, 1977

We went after Berners & took them to the Benefit Club for dinner & a Christmas party. It rained hard all day.

December 15, 1977

I worked on our books to get the report sent for the sales tax at Albany. I was glad to get it finished.

December 16, 1977

We went down to Varnum Casler’s & bought some furniture.

December 17, 1977

We went in the evening to a play at the Reformed Church in St. Johnsville. It was put on by a group of young people from Herkimer.

December 18, 1977

It was a cold stormy day. We played some dominoes. We went to church. We were glad when we got back home safely.

December 19, 1977

We went to Fort Plain to buy Christmas presents. Herbert took Ethel Haig’s present up to her. We went up to Alma’s, but she was not home.

December 20, 1977

We went to F. Plain. We bought more Christmas presents. I wrapped part of them in P. M.

December 21, 1977

We didn’t go anywhere. Keith Herbert stopped in for a few minutes. I wrapped more Christmas presents. Herbert popped corn in the evening.
