January 1, 1971
Herbert, Cecil Allen and Tom Jones & a lot of others went to Sidney to move the furniture of Rev. Clark, our new pastor. Mr. Clark had a car accident in Van Hornesville.
January 2, 1971
We put away the Christmas trimmings in the forenoon. In the P. M. Herbert shoveled snow off of the church steps.
January 3, 1971
We took Rev. Clark to C. Creek church. It was his first sermon there. After church we called on Ethel Haig. It was a nice day. 32 temp.
January 4, 1971
An ice rain. The roads were slippery. We did the washing and I did the ironing. The men sprayed the heifers in the Snell barn.
January 5, 1971
It was a nice day. Herbert took me to LCW meeting at Olga Beischers. He went to see Dr. Feldstein & then went to see Margaret & Charles.
January 6, 1971
Herbert went to Fort Plain to the bank. He paid taxes on this farm. I worked some on grange program and wrote some checks and Marta here for supper. We played Racks.
January 7, 1971
It was a nice day. Madeliene came to clean. I made a cake and worked on grange program. Herbert went to a meeting at the F. Plain Lutheran Church in the evening.
January 8, 1971
We had grange meeting here in the evening. There were 18 present & we had a good time. It was a cold night but the roads were good.
January 9, 1971
It was 8 below zero here in the morning. A nice sunshiny day. I had lots of dishes to wash and I wrote up the grange account for the papers.
January 10, 1971
We took Mr. & Mrs. Clark up to church. It was a nice winter day. We drove up to call on Ira & Edith Timmerman, but they were not at home.

I worked on getting pictures sorted out to start scrapbooks on geneology for Keith & Joanne. Janice took Karen & Tome to Utica to a meeting.
January 12, 1971
It was a cold sunshiny day. Pastor Clark called here in the forenoon. I cleaned out drawers in the large desk upstairs.
January 13, 1971
It was -12 degrees here, but sunshiny. We invited Irvin Klock up for supper and we had a good visit. Letter from Iva & Leland Bellinger.
January 14, 1971
It was another cold day. Pomona Grange was called off as many people said they wouldn’t go on account of slippery roads and streets.
January 15, 1971
We went up to Mildred & Will Threshers about 2 o’clock & stayed until 8:30. We had a few good time. After supper we played Pinochle.
January 16, 1971
It was -3 degrees and windy & cold. We went down to see Ann’s bedroom since she had redecorated it.
January 17, 1971
We attended Crum Creek church. Janice, Jack Carter, Ann & Karen sang a song and Jack played the guitar. There were 31 present.
January 18, 1971
-14 degrees. Sunshiny day. We did the washing & I did part of the ironing. Herbert did not feel well at all.
January 19, 1971
-2 degrees here. –28 degrees in Albany. I finished the ironing and worked on wedding invitation books. Herbert went to C. Creek. We played dominos with the double nines.
January 20, 1971
I wrote letters to Alyson and Jeffrey. Lillian Burkdorf is out of the hospital & staying with her sister in Little Falls.
January 21, 1971
Herbert & I went to F. Plain in the forenoon to buy some things & pay telephone bill. Pastor Clark called in the evening. It was cloudy & some warmer.
January 22, 1971
Snowed in forenoon, but was nice the rest of the day. We had covered dish supper and annual congregational meeting of C. Creek church at Keith’s and Juanita’s.
January 23, 1971
I worked on geneology books. I attended a farewell party for Linda Taylor. We had a very pleasant time.
January 24, 1971
We attended C. Creek church. In the evening we went to union church service at the Methodist church. A sunshiny & mild day.
January 25, 1971
Another sunshiny day. We went to hear the “Camerons” a group from Scotland, who sang gospel songs. They stayed all night with Keith & Janice & family.
January 26, 1971
I went to the dentist in the afternoon & had some work done on a couple of teeth. It rained & snowed some. It was colder.
January 27, 1971
Very cold & windy day. The wind broke the wires that led to the water pump across the road. Keith R. and Keith H. fixed them.
January 28, 1971
The Camerons went to Utica. Herbert went to St. J. after groceries. I picked out more butter nut meals. Had a card from Linda Taylor.

The grange meeting was here with 11 present. Donald Klemme came at my request & led discussion about safety with snowmobiles.
January 30, 1971
Sunshiny day, but snow drifted badly on some roads. I wrote up grange news for the papers. I started working on income tax.
January 31, 1971
We went to church at C. Creek. We had invited Keith & Janice here for supper after church. The big mirror came off the wall & cut Keith in the head. Janice took him over to Dr. Feldstein.
February 1, 1971
20 degrees here, but sunny. Wendy Safford was operated on at Cooperstown. I worked some on income tax. Herbert washed pipeline.
February 2, 1971
Sunny. Wendy Safford came home from hospital. I went to hair dresser. I went to LCW at Marion Groff’s (9 present).
February 3, 1971
13 degrees and sunny. We did the washing. I typed some in the afternoon and mended. We wrote to Philip Wendell who is in hospital with a broken hip.
February 4, 1971
I did the ironing. Herbert went to the bank. We made beef soup form meat sent to us by Emmett Claus. I sent some genealogy records to Solon Groff’s daughter.
February 5, 1971
Sleet and wind from the east. Madelien was here. I made cake and cookies. Wm. Schnitglein died in Little Falls Hospital.
February 6, 1971
It was a mild sunshiny day. I washed parlor curtains. We went to Ft. Plain after groceries. We watched pictures of the astronauts & Ciprello 14.
February 7, 1971
We attended church in P. M. Then we called at Swartz’s funeral parlor. In the evening we went to St. J. church where Pastor Clark was installed as minister of St. J., Cr. Creek & Starkville.
February 8, 1971
We had letters from Irene Stoesser & Nellie Lance. I worked a while on income tax and then Herbert and I moved furniture out of parlor.
February 9, 1971
Letter from Ruth Burritt. We rolled up the rug & got it out of parlor. Herbert went after sprayer to use in removing paper.

We worked in taking off paper in parlor. We had a letter from Grace Drake. I talked with Juanita on the telephone.

We went to F. Plain in P. M. and stopped to see Hazel & Leonard Swanson stopped & brought us some cookies. A sunshiny cold day.

Keith R, Marta & Dean went after Ann & Jack. Bob & Barbara Goldstein came up to Keiths. Herbert took more paper off. Madeliene was here.

A very rainy & cloudy day. I made cookies & banana bread. Herbert took more paper off. Bob Goldstein stopped in for a little while.

We went to C. Creek church. It was a snowy, blustery day. Janice invited us down for supper. We had a very nice time. The men took Ann & Jack back to Morrisville.

I talked with Marion Groff on the telephone. Ira, Edith and Carol Timmerman were here in the P. M.

We did the washing & I did the ironing. Herbert did some plastering Ruth Sheffield called on the phone and she said Gordon Smith died.

Herbert & I both painted in the parlor. I received birthday cards from Aunt Genevieve & Nina Levensaler. It snowed in PM.

Herbert finished painting in the parlor. He went to John Deere Farmer’s Night with Keith at St. J. Theater. Hazel Swanson called on telephone. I called Alta.

Herbert took me over to the library to try to find some things to help Nellie Lance with geneology & received a nice lot of cards.
February 20, 1971
In the evening Keith, Janice, Marta & Dean, Tom Larkin, Karen & Tom Jones came up because of my birthday. Janice made a nice cake & they gave me a pin (grape).

We went to C. Creek to church. Then we went to Alta & Floyd Weavers. They had invited Loyd & Edna Brown & us up for supper.

Herbert and I took paper off the side walls in the parlor. I had a card from Mildred Thresher.

I worked on preparing Grange program. Herbert plastered & did some sizing. He took Karen & Tom up to St. J. Church. I wrote to Nina.
February 24, 1971
The telephone man put us on the line with just Keith R. We attended the Ash Wed. Service at St. J. church. Keith R. went to Syracuse to stay over night for a meeting.
February 25, 1971
Herbert called Joanne last night & she told us she had been ill & in the hospital. We went to F. Plain to the hairdressers. I ironed for Janice in P. M.
February 26, 1971
Janice went after Ann & Jack & they stopped in here. Ann gave us her photograph. We had grange meeting here in the evening. There were 14 present. Edison Handy died on Wed. night, but he was not found until today.
February 27, 1971
Janice & Karen & Marta took me to shower for Susan. Susan & her sister Mary Ann Oldich also rode with us. The shower was at her sister Myrtle’s in S. Arabia.

A beautiful sunshiny day. We went to C. Creek to church. Then we went to Ronds Funeral Home in Schenectady as we could not go to the funeral to be held tomorrow.
March 1, 1971
Wm. Thresher was here & papered the parlor. In the P. M. we took Ethel Haig to Cooperstown Hospital for 2 appointments. Then we went to see Grace Drake in Oneonta Hospital.
March 2, 1971
Herbert took Marion, Olga, Mrs. Clark & me to LCW meeting at Mardis Bowers. There were 12 present. It was another nice sunshiny day.
March 3, 1971
It snowed all day. We did not try to go to the Lenten service. We did washing & ironing. We received Wayne’s and Susan’s wedding invitation.
March 4, 1971
It snowed all day and night. Roads were blocked. Thruway was closed in forenoon. Keith R. and Tom could scarcely get from here to their place with tractor with the scoop on it.

It was sunny day. The road past here was not opened until late afternoon. I baked a cake and graham bread.
March 6, 1971
A sunshiny day. The milk tanker got here about 9:30 in the morning and they had to milk then. The tanker hadn’t been able to get here the day before.

There was no church service at Crum Creek or Starkville on account of the roads. We attended St. J. Lutheran Church. Herbert talked with Joanne on the phone in the evening. She felt better.
March 8, 1971
I ironed clothes for Janice. It was Herbert’s birthday (67 yrs. old). Marta & Keith R. came up in the evening with cards and a present for Herbert.
March 9, 1971
The wind blew very hard & drifted the roads. Tom & Karen pulled a couple of cars out with the tractor. Received letter from Iva & Leland Bellinger.
March 10, 1971
We attended the Lenten Service at St. J. Lutheran Church in the evening. Rev. Hotchkiss had died & we called at Smith’s Funeral Parlor.

Herbert took me for a hair appointment. Had letter from Janet Kilpatrick. Pastor Clark called about 5:30 for Herbert to sign a report.
March 12, 1971
Herbert took the car to be washed & he had his hair cut in P. M. In the evening he took Karen, Tom & Dean over to church for practise for wedding.
March 13, 1971
Wayne & Susan Everson were married at 2:00 at St. J. Lutheran Church. We attended the wedding and the reception at the Masonic Lodge. Cloudy, mild day.
March 14, 1971
We attended C. Creek Church. Then we went to see Lena Burkdorf & her sister. It was a sunny afternoon. Wayne & Susan had stayed at Keith’s and Janice’s the previous evening and left in the morning on their honeymoon.

I washed the dishes & put them in the cupboard in the parlor. Vernon Flanders died in his sleep. We had seen him & his wife when we went to see Lena B, the previous afternoon.

The men got the mirror back on the wall. Herbert took me up to DAR meeting. Effiner Duesler died.

We worked upon Wayne’s and Susan’s house with Janice all day. In the evening we attended Lenten Service at Lutheran Church at St. J.

We attended Vernon Flanders funeral at St. J. Then we went to Fort Plain at Gray’s Funeral Parlor where Effiner Duesler was.

We helped paint & plaster in the house where Wayne & Susan expect to live. They got back from Florida today. Had letter from Nina Levensaler.
March 20, 1971
I made a dish of jello for baby shower which Janice gave for Juanita at 7:30. Leonard Swanson visited with Herbert while Hazel & I went to the shower.

We attended C. Creek Church. Then we went up to call on Margaret & Charles. Margaret is to go tomorrow to the hospital for an operation.

Janice came up in the forenoon and helped me with income tax. Toni was here to fix the furnace. The 2 Keiths put an electrical entrance box in the barn.

I sent in our federal income tax. In the afternoon we attended Jack Gillen’s funeral. Margaret Ingersoll was operated on & we stopped at the hospital. Then we took Juanita her birthday present.

Herbert went to see Margaret and she felt some better. We went to Lenten Service at Lutheran Church in St. J. Dean was here for supper.

It was a cold, windy day. Herbert went up to help Janice. I ironed for her and planned the grange program. Letter from Ruth Burritt.

I wrote up grange news for the papers. In the evening Herbert took Mae & me to a shower for Thomasine Davis at the Firemans’ Hall at Oppenheim.

We attended C. Creek church. Laura Thode was baptized & it was Communion. Then we went to see Margaret at the hospital. Mae & Judd Chase came & were here for supper.

We did the washing and I did part of the ironing. Herbert went to a church meeting at the F. Plain church.

Keith Herbert’s and Juanita’s baby boy (Luke Anthony) was born today late in the P. M. at L. Falls Hospital.

In the forenoon we took 3 chairs (which had belonged to my grandmother (Burkdorf-Handy) up to St. J. to be refinished. In the P. M. we went to the hospital to see Juanita & Luke and Margaret.

I worked on 2 geneology books. I wrote to Ethel Haig. It was a nice sunshiny day. I called Mrs. Haig, Ada Gray, and Martha Hillegas on the telephone.

Herbert & I went to Morrisville after Ann. She has 2 weeks vacation. We stopped at L. Falls Hospital to see Juanita, Luke, and Margaret Ingersoll.

I made 2 elderberry pies. After lunch we went to Cooperstown Hospital to see Ethel Haig. Keith H. brought Juanita & Luke home from the hospital.

Keith R. went to Miami to the American Dairy Association Convention. Janice, Ann, Marta & Dean took him to the Albany Airport. They got back in time to go to church.

It was a nice sunshiny day. I baked molasses cookies. Alma called on the telephone. Herbert talked with Charles on the telephone. Margaret was not so well.

Herbert took me to have my hair washed & set. Then after lunch he took Olga, Marion Groff & me to L. C. W. meeting at Laura Claus’.

Herbert took me to D. A. R. Round Table dinner & meeting at St. J. He went up to see Margaret at the hospital. She was some better.

Keith R. came back from Miami. Herbert & I went to the church service at St. J. Lutheran church in the evening. We had a card from Dottie Crouse.

We attended Good Friday Service at Reformed Church in St. J. Then we came home & rested a while. We then went to C. Creek and Herbert sprayed flies in the church.

We went up to clean C. Creek church in forenoon. It snowed so hard that we stopped and stayed at Keith’s and Juanita’s until 3 o’clock. We had trouble getting home as the roads were very bad and Herbert had put on summer tires.

We attended C. Creek church. It was Easter Sunday. Luke Anthony Handy was baptized. Ann, Herbert & I went to Libbie & John Call’s 50 wedding anniversary.

It was a sunshiny day. We did the washing. It was Tom’s day off and he came in and played Racko with us. We had cards from Madeliene & Alma.

It was a nice sunshiny day. Herbert took Juanita & Luke home from St. J., where they had left car to have tires changed.

Herbert & I went to F. Plain in the forenoon to buy birthday present for Ann, and also groceries. Herbert talked with Ethel Handy & she said Charles Ingersoll wrecked his car Sunday night.

It was a sunshiny, but cold day. Ann took Karen to Port Crane for a retreat for deaf camp. I did a few odd jobs of sewing.

I attended Community Club meeting at St. Johnsville. Mr. & Mrs. George Moyer brought me home. Herbert went to see Margaret at the hospital, then he went to see Charles and Mildred & Will.

It was a nice sunshiny day. Leonard & Hazel & Herbert & I went to the fritter supper at St. Johnsville. They stopped in to visit for a while. Ann came in to say goodbye.

A sunshiny day. We took Janice with us to C. Creek Church. The others of her family went to St. J. to church. Then Keith R. & Marta took Ann back to Morrisville and got Karen who had been at Path of Life Retreat.

A nice sunshiny day. I worked on my quilt in forenoon. Herbert & I walked up to the road a little way. Herbert attended church council meeting at L. Moshers.

Dean went back to school after having the mumps. Beulah Sanders & I went to DAR meeting at the high school. Margaret Ingersoll went home from hospital.

I made a cake and a pie. I sewed some on the quilt. I had a card from Ruth Burritt from Washington, D. C.

It was cloudy windy day. Herbert took Tom Jones to see a doctor at Utica. We had a letter from Ann. Grace Johnson called on the telephone. I called Marion Groff.

A sunshiny day with a strong wind. Herbert took me up to visit with Grace Johnson. I finished the ironing and did some mending.
April 24, 1971
The Kum Dubble Club had an auction at the grange hall. Herbert was up there quite a while. In the evening we were invited down to Keith & Janice’s. Tom Larkin showed his slides of Scotland, England.

We attended C. Creek church. Marta came down with the mumps. It was rainy part of the day. Herbert called Margaret & Charles on the telephone.

We went to C. Creek grange meeting. Lulu & Hazel Richards went with us. The first truck came to deliver new Harvest Store silo at Keith H.

The second truck came with rest of the silo & they were unloaded. I went to hairdresser’s. Herbert, Lester & Ralph put posts under church floor.

Rainy day. I went with Hazel & Bessie to Thelma Johnsons to a Stanley party. Herbert, Ethel Haig & I went to fritter supper at Starkville.

It was a dark, rainy day. I talked with Marion Groff & Ethel Haig on the telephone. I wrote letter to Ruth Burritt.

We attended Neighbor Night meeting at C. Creek grange. We had a real good meeting. Herbert went to Utica in forenoon to take up a tractor part to be repaired.
May 1, 1971
We attended the wedding of Thomasine Davis and David Keller at the C. Creek Church at 1:00. Then we went to the reception at the Benefit Club.
May 2, 1971
We attended C. Creek Church. Then we were invited to Keith’s and Juanita’s. E. Herb came & took pictures of Luke, his parents, grandparents and greatgrandparents.
May 3, 1971
Another rainy day. I made a molded salad and nut bread and did other things to get ready for L. C. W. I talked with Marcia Mumma on telephone.

There were 10 of us for L. C. W. meeting here. In the evening Herbert & I went to L. Falls Hospital to see Lena Burkdorf & then to see Margaret & Charles at Dolgeville.

A nice sunshiny day. Herbert & Keith R. went to Albany to get some machinery fixed. Then Herbert & I went to Fultonville to get a piece of machinery. Letters from Alma, Grace & Alice Carlson.
May 6, 1971
We went to Pomona Grange meeting at Sacandaga. Etta went with Herbert and me. A nice day. Herbert mowed the lawn.
May 7, 1971
A very nice day. Herbert plowed the field back of Keith’s house. Madeliene was here. I had a letter from Gertrude Lance.
May 8, 1971
A rainy day again. We went to F. Plain in P. M. and I bought a hat and stole. Then we went to beef supper at the St. J. Methodist Church. We saw a lot of people we knew.
May 9, 1971
It was a rainy day. Keith R. came in to visit for a while. Karen went up on the hill and picked some wild flowers for Janice & me. The trilliums were not out as usual. We went to church & then to see Lena Burkdorf. Keith & Janice gave me -- boxes of petunias for Mother’s Day.

We did the washing. I also did the ironing and Herbert mowed lawn. It was a very nice warm day. Kermit Weaver called to write insurance on the old place.

A very nice warm day. I ironed for Janice. Herbert plowed all day at Crum Creek. We had a letter from Rhoda Hollenbeck.
May 12, 1971
Herbert plowed at C. Creek in the P. M. He had the car washed & serviced. The Harvestore men were at C. Creek & started work on the silo foundation. Cloudy.
May 13, 1971
We went to Watertown to attend the middle Atlantic Lecturer’s conference at the Woodruff Hotel. We had to stay at the Holiday Inn.
May 14, 1971
We attend the meetings until 3:00. Then we went up to the Holiday Inn to dress for the banquet. The banquet was good and the evening program was excellent.
May 15, 1971
We started after breakfast to go to see Nellie Lance in Three Mile Bay. We started home at 2:00 and arrived home about 5:00. Karen & Tom went to Jr. Sr. Prom. The men planted corn on piece across Thruway.

A nice day. We went to church at C. Creek. Ethel Haig called up on the telephone.

Herbert & I attended Neighbors Night Grange meeting at Sacandaga Grange. It was a nice night to go and there were 50 present.
May 18, 1971
Herbert plowed on the Snell farm. He took me to the dentist to have my teeth cleaned and then to DAR meeting in the evening.
May 19, 1971
I went for appointment at the hairdressers. Herbert plowed on the flat by the road on north side. The men planted corn on some other pieces.
May 20, 1971
A thunderstorm in evening. Herbert plowed all day. I made cookied in the forenoon. I mended and tried to get the things in order for my next lecturer’s program.
May 21, 1971
A rainy day. Herbert went to Utica to get parts to fix tractor. I baked cookies. Madeliene & Herbert washed the windows in the west bedroom.

In the afternoon we attended Nancy Chase’s and Rodney Carlson’s wedding at Ilion Episcopal Church. We went to the reception at Gen. Herkimer Hotel.

Ann graduated from Morrisville College. Janice & Keith went to the graduation. Karen, Tom, Tom Larkin & Arlene Kane here for breakfast. We attended Open House for Ann in the evening.

We did the washing & I did part of the ironing. I had ambition & felt well enough to do a lot of work. Ann started work at Palatine Dye.

Keith Herbert’s birthday. Janice & Keith went to Ithaca to be there in the evening when Keith & Caroline Kark were to be on FM Radio for Path of Life. Letter from R. Bellingers.

A rainy day! They put in road to the Groff cemetery. The Harvestore silo is up full height today. We attended “To Tell it as it is” presented by young people of the churches in St. J. at Elem. School.

A cold cloudy day. Herbert plowed all day on the Snell farm. One of the best cows died. The silo was finished today.

We attended Grange meeting. There were 20 present. Mr & Mrs Rowland and son were present. Glen Creios came up to Keiths for weekend. He called here and Alma Miller also came a while.

It was a beautiful sunshiny day. Herbert plowed on the Snell farm. In the early evening we put flowers on the Handy lot at St. J. and on the Groff cemetery. We went down the gravel road. We stopped to see Juanita.

A beautiful day. We attended C. Creek church. Then we went to L. Falls Hospital to see Lena Burkdorf, Madge Duesler & Alfred Reese. Alice & Eric invited us up to their house for supper. We had a good time.

A very beautiful day. I scrubbed front porch & mopped the floor. Herbert mowed the lawn and put plants out on the plant stand.
June 1, 1971
Another beautiful day. Herbert bought a rototiller & got the garden ready to plant. We went to F. Plain after seeds. We went to see Margaret & Charles in the evening.

Herbert worked on the land all day at Crum Creek. It rained in the late afternoon. I talked with Hazel Swanson. She & Leonard had been to Ind. to see his sisters.

Cloudy in forenoon. Herbert worked at C. Creek in P. M. We went to St. J. Church in the evening to see Fred & Lena Thode show pictures of Phebe Hospital in Monrovia, Liberia. Letter from R. Burritt.

4:00 A. M. Herbert had a severe nosebleed. Ann took him & me up to the L. Falls Hospital. Dr. Muller packed his nose. It was a hard day.

It was a very windy day. We had the furnace turned on to keep warm. I wrote up the Grange news. The men drew 3 loads of haylage. They had the big truck to use which had needed fixing.

Herkimer Co. put on the program at Crum Creek Grange. There were 60 present. For ecology week they presented a tree (a Carolina spruce) to one of Fulton Co. Granges. Vote was made to give it to C. Creek grange.

Church started at 11 0’clock. After the service, Herbert and Keith H. planted the tree in south side of grange lawn. In the afternoon we attend S. Z. T. Reunion officers meeting. It rained hard in evening.

We expected Fred & Lina Thode to come for supper & stay all night. But Lina was ill the previous night & they didn’t come. Herbert & I went up to Little Falls Hospital to see Lena B. & Clifford Mosher.

Fred & Lina came for dinner & stayed until 3 o’clock. Herbert cultivated the tomatoes & beans with the Roto Tiller. Marta was here for supper. We went to C. Creek as the cows got out. Juanita & Luke sat in the car with Marta and me.

A very nice day. Herbert worked at Snell farm all day. Ernest Haig died yesterday. Ethel Haig called on the phone to tell me. Had thank you notes from Nancy Chase Carlson and Kathy Hayes.

A nice day. Herbert disced on the Snell farm. I cleaned books & shelves. Madeliene helped do the top shelves. Gordon Fasani, wife & baby stayed all night at Janice’s & Keith’s.

We went up to St. J. in the A. M. The men hired trucks to move milk cows all up to other farm I bought an aluminum angel food cake pan. In the evening we attended grange at Middleville. Fulton Co. put on program for Herkimer Co. grange.

Hilda & Emmett Mosher went with us to attend Grace Drake’s funeral at Franklin. She was 87 yrs. old. I was quite a few I knew. We called on Everett & Ruth Goldsmith.

A beautiful day. Temperature was 78 degrees. The men put 13 loads of haylage in the Harvestore silo. I did the ironing and made chocolate cookies.

Janice & Keith got back from State Grange. Keith was elected overseer. We went to grange meeting at Crum Creek. It was beautiful day.
October 30, 1971
Herbert worked at C. Creek. I wrote up the grange notices for the newspapers. Another beautiful warm sunshiny day.
October 31, 1971
A cloudy day. We went to C. Creek to church service. Then we went to call on Harold & Dorothy Handy. We ate supper at Jack & Jill’s Restaurant.
November 1, 1971
A very pleasant day. The men drew corn for in the Harvestore. Ralph Handy stopped in the evening & told us Carrie Handy is in Johnstown Hospital.
November 2, 1971
We went to F. Plain to vote & to buy groceries. In the afternoon I went to LCW meeting at Janice’s & I was the leader. Herbert plowed in P. M.

I went to the hairdresser. I bought shoes, dress and a cover for the davenport. The men put corn in the silo. I wrote a letter & wedding anniversary card to Joanne & Gordon. Wayne came in to visit.

Marion Groff came to see me in the afternoon. In the evening Herbert & I went to the Agway dinner and meeting at the Masonic Temple in F. Plain.

Herbert helped refill one of the silos at Keith Herberts. It was a nice sunshiny day. I had a letter from Alma. I typed quite a little.
November 6, 1971
Herbert plowed on the big lot below the old place in C. Creek. Margaret & Charles went with us to turkey supper at St. J. Methodist Church. Herbert & I then went to Campus Crusade for Christ meeting at Lutheran Church.
November 7, 1971
We attended C. Creek Church service. The 9 young Crusaders for Christ from Cornell took part in the service. After dinner we drove down to East Creek Dam & then came home.

It was a cold day. Herbert put storm windows on back porch, dug carrots & beets. I washed dishes from half of china closet.
November 9, 1971
Very cold! 12 degrees above zero. Water froze in the barn here. The men had to do some repair work to get things fixed. I wrote letters & made a large kettle of soup.
November 10, 1971
It had snowed some in the night. Herbert had winter tires put on the car. I cleaned the bookcase and sorted out magazines.
November 11, 1971
Herbert plowed all day on the piece near East Creek Dam. We attended Pomona Grange at Mayfield. Clyde went with us. We got home 1 o’clock.

Herbert plowed at Keith Herberts. In evening we attended grange meeting at C. Creek. We had 2 good movies. Lula and Hazel went with us.

I wrote up the grange news. In P. M. Herbert took me up to Study Class meeting at Ann Cronkhites. Vivian Bowerman showed slides which they took while in Africa.

We attended C. Creek Church. We stopped to visit with Bessie Gottung. Everett Flanders and Emerson Leek died.

Herbert & I went to Johnstown to redeem S&H stamps & the store was closed on Monday. We did the washing before we went.

We went to Johnstown in the morning & got the dishes for Karen’s shower present. Herbert then went to C. Creek. I attended DAR meeting in the evening.

A very beautiful Indian Summer day. Herbert plowed the piece down next to Ed Christman’s. I ironed for Janice.

I baked for Grange bake sale. Mrs. Briele brought the walker back. Herbert washed the bay windows on the outside. A beautiful sunshiny day.

I baked apple pies. Herbert took things up for the bake sale for the Grange. Madeliene was here. It rained some in the P. M.

I had a long letter from Gertrude Lance (24 pages). Herbert & I went to F. Plain. I bought a pr. of overshoes. Herbert went up to grange hall to get it ready as it was rented.

We attended Crum Creek Church. There were 45 present. Alta & Floyd had invited us up there for supper. We had a very good time. We stopped at Lull’s Funeral Parlor. We talked with Minnie Snell.

I made escalloped potatoes for the Dairy Lee dinner at C. Creek Grange hall. In the evening we attended joint meeting of the LCW of C. Creek & St. J., where the movie “To Russia With Love” was shown.

We made cranberry relish. I used the last of the bushel of sweet apples. It was a sunshiny, but cold day. I cleaned some in the kitchen.
November 24, 1971
We cleaned the house. In the afternoon Richard King came up to see us. He stayed for supper and went to Union Service at Reformed Church in St. J. with us. Ann came in to say hello!
November 25, 1971
Thanksgiving Day! Lots of snow fell in the night & today; 24 inches in Albany. Joanne, Gordon, Alyson & Jeffrey got only as far as Albany. We went for dinner at Stone Lodge.

Joannes came about 11:15. In the evening we attended a shower for Karen at the Grange Hall. It was a very nice affair. Roads were not bad.

Joanne & family left for home a little before 10:00 A. M. Herbert & I went to C. Creek Church. Then we went down to R. Stowells for Ethel & Alfred Reese’s 60th wedding anniversary.

It was a dark day and rained & snowed. Herbert & I didn’t feel well. I wrote some Christmas cards. We got a present ready to sent to Alma Miller.

Gordon Fasani and family moved up stairs in Keith’s & Janice’s house. Herbert went up to L. Falls Hospital & called on Vernon Casler, Beth Safford, Mrs. Fowler, Clifford Mosher.

Herbert went to F. Plain after groceries. I wrote Christmas letters. We went in the evening to an instructional meeting at Mayfield Grange Hall.

Bill Ecke & his wife called at noon. Herbert & I attended service at C. Creek & in the evening Advent Service at St. J.

A freezing rain. Schools were closed all day. I wrote cards & letters. I talked with Etta and Ethel Haig on the telephone.

I worked some on grange program. I wrote more cards & letters. Keith R. left about 6:30 P. M. to attend Grange Exec. Comm. Meeting.

Herbert went to F. Plain to the bank. He heard that Doris Gibney had died very suddenly. Mr. McKenney called in the P. M. I wrote more cards.
December 9, 1971
Keith R. picked a little corn & then it rained. Keith H. was sick with a cold. We had several Christmas letters. I wrote more cards & letters.

We went to grange meeting at C. Creek. Lulu & Hazel Richard went with us. Hazel gave me a white hat which she had crocheted.

I wrote up grange news for the papers. Gordon Fasani and his wife, Laura, called in the evening. We had a nice time.

We attended C. Creek Church. Then we went to see Carrie Handy, Ralph & Lois Handy. We ate supper at Jack & Jill’s Restaurant. We watched on the T. V. “The Littlest Angel” put on by Hallmark. It was very good.

I attended a combined meeting of the Kings Daughters & Community Club at the Community House in St. J. We had letter from Mr. Ullrich saying Anna died Oct 30, 1971.

I ironed for Janice. Herbert went up to Roorda’s to help butcher a cow in the P. M. In the evening we watched “The Little Drummer Boy”, the Bing Crosby show & part of Andy Williams.

Herbert took me to F. Plain to do some chopping. I bought a dress with jacket & a little feather hat to wear to the wedding. A rainy day.

A nice sunshiny day warm day. Herbert set up the Christmas tree. I wrapped packages. Herbert went to the auction near L. Falls. We received Karen’s invitation.

Madeliene was here in P. M. We trimmed the Christmas tree & put up some other decorations. I made pineapple cookies. Herbert went to Fort Plain. Shower for Karen at the Jones’.

It was a cold day. I wrote some letters & cards. We heard that Vernon Casler died last evening. We had a letter from Fred & Lina from Monrovia, Africa.

There was a little snow on the ground. We attended C. Creek Church. Then we called at Lull’s Funeral Parlor to see Vernon Casler’s children. Herbert phoned Harold.
December 20, 1971
Herbert attended Vernon Casler’s funeral. Then he went up to the Casler home & stayed for supper. I made cookies. Presents came from Joanne & family & J. Thomas.

The men picked 7 loads of corn. Herbert & Lester Mosher collected money for the minister’s Christmas present. I ironed for Janice.
December 22, 1971
It was sunshiny day. The men picked 9 loads of corn (finished the piece by the airport). Ann came home. Charles & Margaret were here for lunch.

We went to F. Plain after some more presents & groceries. Madeliene came to clean & brought cookies & candy. We went to call on Clarence & Ada Gray. Adrian and 2 of his boys were there.

I made 2 apple pies for Christmas. It was a rainy day. Warren & Varnum Casler & families gave us a beautiful basket of fruit.

We went down to Janice’s & Keiths about 11 o’clock. There were 15 present for dinner. It was a nice day & we had a pleasant time. Juanita, Keith & Luke stopped in a while in the evening.

We attended Crum Creek Church. It was Communion. The S. School children sang 2 songs. 41 persons were present. Herbert talked on the telephone to Seymour & Katy Handy.

We polished silver in the forenoon and I wrote some thank you notes. It rained & froze in the P. M. & made roads very slippery.

Grace Johnson had to go back to the hospital yesterday. She has pneumonia. Herbert went up to St. J. to get a hair-cut. We played “Perquackey”.

It was a nice sunshiny day. I made cookies for the wedding reception. I did some mending. I talked on the telephone with Ethel Haig, Ada Gray and Mae Bellinger.
