January 1, 1976
Herbert & I stayed home all day. I didn’t feel well. I didn’t eat much. It was a nice sunshiny day. I called Marion Groff on the telephone.
January 2, 1976
We took down the Christmas tree and put away all of the decorations. Herbert went to F. Plain to get my check cashed & to get some groceries.
January 4, 1976
We went to C. Creek to church. It was “Communion.” The wind blew the snow and it was hard to get through the drifts. We were glad to get home.
January 5, 1976
We did the washing. I baked some banana bread. Herbert had trouble with the car in F. Plain. He got it fixed at Prime’s Garage. They brought 4 heifers up here from Keith Raymonds.
January 6, 1976
I did the ironing. I worked on the quilt then until noon. Herbert worked on his picture frames in P. M. We played Pinochle a while & I finished 2 rolls of bandages.
January 7, 1976
I made banana bread. I embroidered a lot. Herbert went to Fort Plain. He worked on his picture frames.
January 8, 1976
I worked on bandages and on my quilt. We listened to the T. V. program in the evening.
January 9, 1976
The Grange meeting was here. After the meeting we had a “bring and buy sale.” Dean auctioned off the articles.
January 10, 1976
We went to Newport to an auction. We bought a lot of things including a large box of tablecloths and doilies. Juanita & Keith went after Tom & Karen.
January 11, 1976
We went to church. Tom, Karen and their children and Keith R. rode up with us. We were glad to get home as the winds were piling up drifts in the roads.
January 12, 1976
I sorted out the things we had bought at the auction. I ironed some of the things which needed ironing. Herbert & I played Pinochle in the evening.
January 13, 1976
I wrote a birthday card to Veba & sent $2.00 for Kim Allen’s little baby girl (Christina Marie). Harold Plank died this forenoon. I started the second quarter of my quilt.
January 14, 1976
Herbert & I went to the dinner of the Elderly Citizens at St. Johnsville. It was a very good roast beef dinner. Janice, Susie, Karen & Dean came up & we wided the linens which we had bought at an auction at Newport.
January 15, 1976
We attended Harold Plank’s funeral at the St. Johnsville Lutheran church. It was a sunshiny cold day.
January 16, 1976
I went to the hairdresser’s in the P. M. Herbert took me & came after me. Herbert’s poinsetta has 2 huge blossoms on it.
January 17, 1976
I attended Study Class meeting at F. Plain. It was held at Mrs. Gray Bartons. She runs a Yarn Shop. She talked and Chris Buhrenecter talked on Stenciling.
January 18, 1976
I didn’t go to church. I thought I had better stay home as I had the grippe. Herbert & I played dominoes in the evening.
January 19, 1976
We did the washing. It was a very cold morning, 18 or more below zero. I worked on my quilt and wrote some letters.
January 20, 1976
It was warmer. I did the ironing and worked a lot on my quilt. Herbert helped at the barn & did some work on making another frame.
January 21,1976
We went to St. Johnsville to eat dinner with Senior Citizens. Then we went to their meeting at the Community House. A man from the bank talked about the St. Johnsville Bank.
January 22, 1976
It was sunshiny but windy and cold. We had meant to go to Little Falls, but we decided to stay at home. I worked on my quilt. Herbert did the barn chores.
January 24, 1976
Madeliene came to clean in P. M. I finished the second section of my bicentennial quilt. Herbert worked more on making frames.
January 25, 1976
We went to Crum Creek to church. Then we went to visit Ira & Edith Timmerman. From there we went to Stewart’s at Fort Plain for supper.
January 26, 1976
We didn’t do the washing. I worked on my quilt and Herbert worked on his framing pictures.
January 27, 1976
I worked on my quilt all forenoon & some in P. M. It snowed a lot. Herbert went to St. J. to buy groceries.
January 28, 1976
It was stormy. I worked on my quilt & Herbert worked on his picture frames. He went to St. Johnsville after some groceries in A. M.
January 29, 1976
We went to F. Plain. Herbert went to the bank and put in money to pay for our trip to Hawaii. I went to the Ben Franklin Store & we also went to Victory Market.
January 30, 1976
Herbert went up to the old place & got some wood from an old bed. We attended Grange meeting at George Gottungs. It was a nice night, but very cold.
January 31, 1976
I worked a lot on my quilt and stitched some bed pads. Herbert went after groceries. We listened to Laurence Welk program.
February 1, 1976
We went to C. Creek to church. It was communion. Then we went to Little Falls & ate supper at the Dandy Donut place,
February 2, 1976
It snowed & the wind blew. The roads were entirely blocked past here. Herbert & did the washing. I wrote up grange news for the newspaper.

I did the ironing. I worked on my bicentennial quilt.

Herbert took Tom to C. Creek & took Juanita’s picture up to her.
February 5, 1976
We attended Laurence Nagel’s funeral at St. Johnsville Lutheran Church. Then we went to Little Falls and ate dinner at the Dandee Donut’s.
February 6, 1976
Herbert went up to old place to get the rest of the lumber to make picture frames. Margaret was operated this P. M. in St. Elizabeth’s Hospital of Utica, N. Y. Her leg was broken below the joint in femur bone.

Herbert & I went to the auction at Newport. We bought quite a lot of antiques. It was a cold, sunshiny day.
February 8, 1976
Herbert went to church. I didn’t go, as I didn’t feel well. Tom Jones preached the sermon at Crum Creek. I felt better in the evening.
February 9, 1976
Monroe & Eva Hamilton came down in the A. M. We played Pinochle in A. M. and in P. M. we stopped at Stewart’s & had ice cream.
February 10, 1976
We had a very good visit with the Hamiltons. They went with us to F. Plain in A. M. Eva bought an afghan to embroider. They left in P. M.

We went to the dinner for the Senior Citizens. Then we went to the meeting at the Community House.

We attended Grange meeting at Keith’s & Juanita’s. The driveways were very icy.
February 15, 1976
We attended Mildred Gillen’s funeral at L. Falls. Then we took bed pads to the Clinton Home. After dinner at 2 P. M. we visited M. Ingersoll in the hospital. We then went to see Veba & Marion Black.

Herbert & I did the washing. He worked on his picture frames. I worked on my quilt. I wrote up the grange news.

I did the ironing. I worked on my quilt.

We went to Meals for the Elderly with the Berners. Then they came home with us and we played Pinochle.

Tom & Karen and Rebeccah and Annette came up for supper. We enjoyed having them here.

It was my 77th birthday. I went to F. Plain to get my hair washed & set. Herbert was hurt under his eye when a silo door hit him. It is good that it missed his eye.

The Berners and Alta Weaver went with us to the auction at Newport. We bought quite a few things again.
February 22, 1976
We attended church at Crum Creek. We came right home & Herbert went to bed for a while. His eye bothered him a lot.

We received the tickets and a Wayfarer traveling bag for each of us. The bags are blue & with grange seal on each.
February 24, 1976
Berners visited us down there for the evening. After dessert, we played Pinochle.
February 25, 1976
We went to Meals for the Elderly at St. Johnsville. Then we went to the meeting at the Community House. Herbert &I bought a few things at second hand store.

Herbert took me to F. Plain. I bought a white hat and a blue parasol at the Charm Corner. Then I went to the dentist & Doris cleaned my teeth.

The Grange meeting was held here in the evening. Ida & George Berner stopped in & played Pinochle for a while. Madeline was here to clean.

George & Ida went with us to a card party at the Masonic Temple in Dolgeville. We had a very enjoyable time.
February 29, 1976
We attended church at Crum Creek. We went to call on Harold & Dorothy, but they had gone to see Margaret. We ate supper at Stewart’s in Fort Plain.
March 1, 1976
We did the washing. The clothes dried good in the house. I wrote up the Grange notes and Herbert mailed them.
March 2, 1976
I did the ironing in A. M. L. C. W. meeting and Council meeting was called off because of the weather.
March 3, 1976
Very slippery. We didn’t try to go to Ash Wed. Service at St. J. I think it was called off. We watched the T. V. show “The Little House on the Prairie.” Keith went to Syracuse.
March 4, 1976
Herbert went to F. Plain in P. M. He chopped the ice off in driveway. I finished a small picture, which Ida gave me.

We went to World Day of Prayer Service at St. Johnsville Congregational Church.

I wrote some letters. We didn’t go anywhere.
March 7, 1976
We attended church at C. Creek. It was Communion. Then we went to see Margaret at L. Falls Hospital. From there we went to Stewart’s for supper.
March 8, 1976
Herbert’s birthday. I started making out our income tax. Keith & Dean brought up birthday presents for Herbert (After Shave Lotion).
March 9, 1976
Herbert took me up to L. C. W. meeting at Mardis Bowers. Pastor Clark led the meeting. Herbert had cards from Dottie Crouse & Lockners.
March 10, 1976
We attended the Lenten Service at St. J. Lutheran Church. George & Ida were here for a while in P. M. We played Pinochle.
March 11, 1976
The Berners gave Herbert a very nice wallet for his birthday. We watched the “Waltons” on T. V. in evening.
March 12, 1976
Herbert took me to Fort Plain for a “permanent.” We tried to get things ready to leave for Hawaii.
March 13, 1976
Keith took us to Albany airport. Something happened to the plane we were supposed to take & so we didn’t reach Chicago until 2:30. We got to San Francisco 8 P. M.
March 14, 1976
We ate breakfast with the leader, Mr. Luther Snyder & his wife. We went on a bus trip. We ate dinner at the Fisherman’s Groto. We got back to hotel 4:30.
March 15, 1976
We had to have our bags packed & out in the hall by 7:00 A. M. Then we went down for breakfast. At 8 o’clock we boarded bus for airport. Reached here 2 P. M. at Royal Havian.
March 16, 1976
We went for bus ride. We saw coconuts, pineapples, avacado trees, and coffee trees. We drove through the rain forest. We went to Honolulu. We saw 2 shows in theater there.
March 17, 1976
We saw a burial in the National Cemetery. Flat grave stones are now used. In P. M. Herbert & I walked to Woolworths. We bought quite a lot. In evening the Baldwin Crosbeys came & played Pinochle.
March 18, 1976
We went with bus to the Waikiki Shell to Kodak Hula Show. We ate duner with 4 other couples. Herbert phoned home & talked with Janice.
March 19, 1976
We went to Rewalo Basin for lunch at Fisherman’s Wharf. Then we went to the cruise ship for cruise to Pearl Harbor.
March 20, 1976
At 6:15 A. M. we went for breakfast at the Sheraton Waikiki Hotel. We went by bus to airport. Our plane took off from Oahu to Hilo Airport. We went for ride to see the volcanoes.
March 21, 1976
We motored to Kona. We visited the famous Parker Ranch. We saw a movie of the history of the Ranch. Then we had dinner there. We then went to Kona Surf.
March 22, 1976
After breakfast we met in the lobby to go to Karlua Pier by boat. We then went for a Kona Cruise for 2 ¾ hr. Several went swimming. Lulu at Kona Surf very nice.
March 23, 1976
We went by bus (after breakfast) to the Kona Airport. We flew to Holeakala Crater, Iao Valley and Lakaina & then had lunch at Kola Lodge. Arrived at Intercontinental Maui Lodge.
March 24, 1976
We relaxed and enjoyed ourselves at the Intercontinental Maui Hotel. We saw the huge Banyan Tree in a town nearby, & bought some nuts and other presents.
March 25, 1976
[Arrival at Lihu Airport where] we went from the Maui Surf [we were transferred] for transport to board airplane for Kauai. From the plane, we were taken to the Mauai Surf. In P. M. Herbert went with the rest of the group for a cruise on the Wailua River followed by visit to Paradise Pacifica. I stayed in hotel.
March 26, 1976
After breakfast we went by bus to visit Vaima Canyon. A beautiful ride. We ate lunch at Moui’s at Plantation Gardens.
March 27, 1976
We went by plane to the Hilton Hotel in San Francisco. We stayed all night there & left early for the airport. We rode in a very large plane, called the N. W. Orient.
March 28, 1976
We left San Francisco in the morning. We went by airplane to Chicago. We had to wait there a long time. Fay & Ruther Snyder & we were there the latest – They went before we did. We flew to Albany in 1 ½ hours. Keith, Marta, Dean met us.

We were so tired we could scarcely move. So we went back to bed & slept a while. I embroidered some in P. M.

We did the washing. Then I worked on my pillowcases. Herbert went to Fort Plain after some groceries. We went up to Juanita’s & Keith H. It was Lukes 5th birthday.

I did the ironing. We had quite a few callers in P. M. Ida & George Berner, Margaret & Charles and Pastor Clark. It was a nice day.
April 1, 1976
I ironed the pillow cases, ready to wrap for a shower for Susan Snell. We watched “Little House on the Prarie.”

I worked on income tax and wrote some letters. We watched the “Waltons” on T. V. in evening. Ida brought us some fancy bread.

I pasted mementoes of our trip in the trip scrapbook. Ida asked us to come down but I thought I better not go. Herbert took Susan Snell’s present up to her house.

We went to C. Creek to church. Then we drove over to see Harold & Dorothy for a while. We went then to eat our supper at Palatine Bridge.

I made an apple sauce cake to enter in Grange contest. Kelly came in to stay with me a while. Herbert & I watched T. V. a while in the evening.
April 6, 1976
Herbert took me up to L. C. W. meeting at Mae Bellinger’s. I accepted the office of treasurer as Alta resigned.
April 8, 1976
Clyde Fitzer, Herbert and I went to Pomona Grange meeting at Sacandaga. There were 5 entries in the apple sauce cake contest. Gene Gottung won 3rd prize.
April 9, 1976
We went to St. Johnsville to get Lulu Robinson to go to grange meeting. After we were in the car, smoke started coming out under the hood. The car burned up. The fire company came.

Prime’s let us take an old Ambassador to drive until we could get another car. We have decided to buy a new Matador station wagon.

We went up to see Margaret & Charles after church. Charles went to “Green Acres” Restaurant & got chicken dinners for us all.

We went down to Kerner’s in the evening and played Pinochle. We had a good time.

Herbert went to about buying a new car. I pressed my quilt, after sewing it together by hand. It was rather cold.

We went to Big M at Palatine Bridge to get lining for my quilt. I quilted for a while in PM.

We attended church at the St. Johnsville Lutheran Church. It was communion.

We attended the service held at the Grace Congregational church at St. J. in P. M.

We took Berners up to Dolgeville. We went to the gift ship & then ate supper at the Valmar, and had a very good meal.
April 18, 1976
Sunday. We attended church at C. Creek. Then we went to Palatine Bridge for dinner.
April 19, 1976
We did the washing. It was a beautiful day & we put the clothes out-of-doors to dry. I rode over to the Owen Fassett Machinery shop to get a couple of things which the men needed.
April 20, 1976
I finished the ironing. Herbert rotavited about ¾ of the garden. Ida & George Berner stopped in and we played Pinochle. Keith H. plowed the large field across from our house.
April 21, 1976
Herbert plowed on the field below the pond. A tire blew out on the big tractor.
April 22, 1976
I went to hairdresser’s in F. Plain. Then we ate dinner at Stewart’s. We then went up to Dolgeville to visit Charles & Margaret. We stayed for supper.

We tooke the Berners to a musical show at the St. Johnsville Elementary School. It was very good and we enjoyed it a lot.
April 24, 1976
We took Ida & George to chicken supper at the Ephratah Reformed Church. We stopped at their house and played Pinochle for a while.

We attended church at Crum Creek. Juanita was ill & didn’t come to church. We went home & didn’t go any where in the evening.

I worked a lot on my quilt. Two men were here and we bought a new insurance policy. Two men were here to tell Herbert they are installing telephone lines under ground.
April 27, 1976
We went to Senior Citizens dinner & then to meeting at Community House. We went after the Berners & went to fritter supper at Starkville.
April 28, 1976
We went up to Little Falls Hospital to see Mae Bellinger and Ada Davy. We ate in the cafeteria there. Then we went to see Eric & Alice. Played Pinochle.
April 30, 1976
We went up to the grange meeting. Lulu went with us & we went after Etta.
May 1, 1976
Madeliene came. She & Herbert washed the windows in my bedroom. The men planted corn in the large field north of the road.
May 2, 1976
I drove our new car up to church. After church was out we went up to visit Margaret & Charles. Ira, Edith and Carol Timmerman came in evening.
May 3, 1976
We did the washing. Even though it rained hard several times, Herbert brought the clothes in the house & we got them dry. I worked on my quilt A. M. & P. M.
May 4, 1976
I did the ironing in the forenoon. I worked on quilt and so for a while. I went to L. C. W. meeting at Olga Beischers.

We went in the evening to Little Falls – to an auction in the old Penny’s Store. It lasted from 7-10. We bought quite a lot of things.

Herbert went to St. J. after groceries. I worked a lot on my quilt.

We left Monday at 9:15 AM and went to Marcellus. In the evening we went to an auction at the Marcellus Grange hall. We bought quite a lot of things.

We went for a nice ride to see a Falls a distance from Watkins Glen. In the evening, Monroe’s sister & her husband came to play Pinochle.

We went to the Presbyterian Church in Marcellus with Eva & Monroe. Then they took us to eat the Mandana Hotel. We then went to their house & came home.

Herbert & I worked on marking picture frames & getting them ready to take to Cortland. We cleared off the folding table so that I could have it to cut out my dress.
May 11, 1976
Primes took our new car back to install air conditioner. I worked on my quilt.
May 12, 1976
I worked on my quilt all day. Herbert went up to Harolds to get him to plane some lumber for picture frames.
May 13, 1976
Herbert & I went to F. Plain. Herbert had his eyes fitted. I went to store to buy more cloth for my bicentennial dress. I got it all cut out. We went to pancake supper at Starkville.

Ann & Jack came up in P. M. I worked on my dress.
May 16, 1976
We went to C. Creek to church. Then we went to Dolgeville and ate dinner at the “Green Acres.”
May 17, 1976
We did a large washing. I went to Discount Store for some more things for my dress.
May 18, 1976
Margaret & Charles came in P. M. and stayed for supper. Keith Herbert and Kelly came in to visit for a little while. I finished ironing in P. M.
May 19, 1976
We attended the concert at the St. Johnsville High School. It was very good. Dean & Marta were in it. It rained almost all day and night.
May 21, 1976
George & Ida Berner, Herbert & I attended the American Legion Auxiliary card party. We had a good time.
May 22, 1976
I worked on my dress. Then we went to St. J. Lutheran Church to attend Norma Shuster’s and Michael Andrew’s wedding. We went to their reception at the Herkimer Hotel.
May 23, 1976
We attended church at Crum Creek. Rev. Dingman preached. Then we went to Janice’s & Keith’s. They had invited all of their children & grandchildren.
May 24, 1976
The men let the cows out. Herbert took me to Fort Plain to have my picture taken in the dress to enter sewing contest. Herbert got his bifocal glasses. Ann brought up pictures from her mother’s house.
May 25, 1976
I forgot it was DAR night. I could just as well have gone. Herbert finished planting the garden.
May 26, 1976
George & Ida Berner stopped in on their way home from dinner at St. J. We played Pinochle and had ice cream & cake. Ida gave us bouquet she got at St. J.

I worked a lot on my quilt. Herbert & I went to an auction at the “Diamond” Building near Middleville. We bought quite a lot of things.
May 28, 1976
A very nice sunny day. I finished my dress & Juanita came down to get it to mail before 5 o’clock. Herbert packed our car with lots of things to take to Fair at Cortland.
May 29, 1976
We started at 4:15 A. M. to go to Cortland as we had an exhibit of articles at the Arts & Crafts Show at N. Y. State Grange Bldg. We went to Hamiltons to stay all night.
May 30, 1976
We went to Cortland in time for sale to start at 10 A. M. A good attendance. Hamiltons came in evening. Auction at 8:00 P. M. We bought an antique bedspread & some other things.
May 31, 1976
We were tired out. We rested some and then I started planning the quilt block for a quilt to be made by the S & H committee to be sold for State Grange debt.
June 1, 1976
A very rainy day. Herbert took me up to L. C. W. at Hilda Mosher’s. In evening Herbert went to Council meeting also at Moshers. I finished the quilt block – Hurrah!

Herbert & I attended the Retired Teacher’s Luncheon at the Canajoharie Country Club at 12:30.
June 10, 1976
I had an appointment at the hairdresser’s at 10:30. I drove the car alone down to Ft. Plain & back.

We attended Grange meeting at C. Creek. We sent a present for Susan Klemme’s shower at the Lutheran Church in St. J. Margaret & Charles were here.
June 12, 1976
Oneida Co Pomona Grange brought the program to Fulton Co. at Mayfield Grange. In all there were about 75 present. They gave 2 hour program.
June 13, 1976
We went to C. Creek to church. Then we went to L. Falls Hospital to visit Nina Levensaler. We ate supper at Stewart’s Restaurant in Ft. Plain. Then we called on Ethel Haig.
June 15, 1976
I went with Catherine Feldstein, Bertha Flanders and Mable Newman to the Tri-Chapter DAR meeting. Dr Drake talked on the ex president, Grover Cleveland.
June 16, 1976
Herbert painted up a lot of things, ready to take to an auction. We went down to the Berners in evening. Ida, Herbert & I played Pinochle.

It was a nice day. I worked on my quilt a lot. In P. M. I rode up to Juanita’s, while Herbert & Tom went to the old place to get an old dining room table from there.

We attended a card party at Newville Grange Hall. We took Ida Berner & -------- with us.

We attended the wedding of Susan Klemme & Wm. Kirkpatrick. We also went to the reception at the DeCarlo Staff Post at L. Falls.

We went to C. Creek to Church at 11 o’clock. Then we went up to Hazel & Bob’s Brown to a surprise birthday party for Alta.

We didn’t wash as Herbert has a large table in the laundry. It didn’t look right, so he has to stain it over again.
June 22, 1976
Herbert weeded his garden. I worked all day on my quilt. Ida called up a little while ago & wanted us to come down. So we are going.

Herbert went to dentist. We went to L. Falls & bought a few items at the place, formerly Penney’s store.

We went to grange meeting. Lulu went with us.
June 27, 1976
We attended church at C. Creek at 11 o’clock. Then Herbert & I went to Fonda & ate dinner at the Diner there. Then we went to see Iva and Philip Wendell.
June 28, 1976
We did the washing, and I did the ironing. We went down to Berners in the evening and played Pinochle.
June 29, 1976
I washed the living room curtains & ironed them. Herbert washed the living room windows, inside & out. Then we put the curtains back up.
June 30, 1976
Karen came up to finish papering ceiling. Then Herbert washed the bay windows inside & outside. Juanita stopped in here in P. M. She & Karen sorted out clothes which they could use.
July 1, 1976
Herbert & I cleaned up the house. Then I made bed pads. After dinner Herbert went to collect grange dues. He took in over $200. It was a nice day.

I rode with Herbert when he went to Randall after some things for the boys. In evening we went to card party at Newville Grange Hall.
July 3, 1976
Herbert mowed the lawns at the Grange Hall and church. He stopped to visit with Mae Bellinger. We attended auction at Betty’s. We had taken many things of ours.
July 4, 1976
We went to C. Creek to church. It was Communion. We went home for lunch and then we attended Service at the Indian Castle church. I wore my bicentennial dress.

Herbert worked in the garden & on the lawn almost all day. In the evening I listened to Billy Graham preach from Williamsburg.

We went up to Herkimer.

We went to the elderly citizens dinner at Klock Park. There was a big crowd. We went up to Juanita’s for Kelly’s 4th birthday.
July 8, 1976
Marjorie came to see us. We persuaded her to stay all night. She went with us to Pomona Grange meeting at our hall. The judges judged the needlework.
July 9, 1976
Marjorie went home. Herbert & I did the washing & I also did the ironing. We went to card party at Palatine Grange Hall.
July 10, 1976
We left at 10 A. M. to go to Mason Inn. I drove almost to Oneonta. There were 12 of us there for a reunion of our groupshe, who had gone on Alaska trip.

We attended church at Crum Creek. Then we came home. Herbert didn’t feel well. Late in P. M. we went to call on Lynn Cronkhite as he had to help in the barn we went to see Alma Miller.

Eva & Monroe Hamilton came down & got here about 10 AM. We played Pinochle. In the evening we called on Juanita & the children.

We went up to Avery’s Inn to get dinner, but as they don’t serve until late in P. M., we went down to Jack Frost & ate dinner there. Then we called on the Berners.

In the evening we went to get Ida & George. Then the 6 of us went to the Reformed Church in St. Johnsville to attend a very good program.

Eva & Monroe went home in A. M. We washed the green bedspread from my room. It washed beautifully. We took Karen, Dean, Karen & babies to C. Creek.

We attended a card party at Newville Grange Hall. It was a rainy night.

We went to an auction at Schoharie. I bought a nice mahogany chair. In evening we went to auction at Betty’s.

We attended C. Creek Church. In P. M. we attended a Bicentennial Service at the Snells Bush Church. The church was full and it was a wonderful service.

We did the washing. Then we canned 14 qts of beans & froze some besides.

I finished the ironing. We canned 7 more qts. of beans. We went to Berners to play cards in evening.

It rained in forenoon. We got together a lot of things for our booth at Fonda Fair. We went to F. Plain and did some shopping.

Marta, Herbert & I went to Fonda and arranged our booth for the centennial. We put a lot of our antiques in the booth & it looked nice.

We attended grange meeting. There weren’t very many there. We decided to wait until Sept. to elect officers.

We attended auction at Newmans in A. M. and part of P. M. Then in evening we went to auction at Betty’s. Some of our things were sold.

We attended church at Palatine Church. Then we went down & ate at Fonda. From there we attended the Barge Centennial Celebration. We stayed for evening program.

We went to Fonda & took down the things in our booth & brought them back. We went to our Bible lesson at C. Creek Church.

We put away all of the things which we had exhibited at Fonda. We were glad to get them back where they belonged.

We went to Ft. Plain & bought cookies for serving at the park. I washed several dresses & ironed them. We went up to church in the evening.

Thursday. Ida & George Berner came up in PM and we played Pinochle. She took my cupcakes when she went home. As it rained very hard the band concert was called off.

I went to the hairdresser’s at 3 o’clock. Herbert went to the bank & several other places. We went up to C. Creek church again in evening.

We got up 4:00 AM. We ate breakfast, washed dishes & prepared lunch to take with us. Then at a quater to 6 we started for Marcellus to get Monroe & Eva H.
(From Travel Journal - Saturday) Herbert and I got up 4 o’clock in the morning. We got our breakfast and fixed food to take on our trip. Then I washed the dishes. Herbert put the things in the car. We thought we would be ready to start at 5 o’clock, but it took longer than we expected. We left home a quarter of 6 and arrived at the home of Monroe & Eva Hamilton at a quarter of 8. The men put the rest of the things in the car and then we were ready to start. Monroe drove until about a quarter of 11. Then Herbert drove. We followed route 81 all the way from Lafayette to Strausberg. We stopped there to get gas and we asked the proprietor if he could recommend a good motel. So we came to the Valley View Motel. We have 2 separate rooms. At 11:30AM we had stopped at a place near the road, & ate our lunch, which we had brought with us. Then we continued on our way until we arrived here about 6:00 o’clock. We ate supper here in this room. Monroe & Eva have gone over to their motel to rest for ½ hr. We expect them soon and then we place to play Pinochle.

It was a hot day. We have 2 different units in the Valley View Motel. We ate our supper here. We went to church at Roanoke, Virginia. We now have a room at Day’s Inn, Knoxville, Tenn.
(From Travel Journal - Sunday) We ate breakfast in our cabin. We had plenty to eat. Then we started after about a quarter of 8. We were right on route 81 and so we didn’t even have to turn around. It was a sunshiny day. A couple of times it sprinkled just a little. We hunted up a church in Roanoke, Virginia. We were able to park in the parking lot of the Episcopal Church. It is a very large church and there was a large attendance. From there we drove a little ways, when we found a good restaurant. It was right on the street where we were to continue of route 81. We found 2 adjoining rooms at Day’s Inn, Knoxville, Tenn. We ate lunch in their dining room, before we came to our rooms on the second floor of the motel across the street. I plan to write some cards and paste some things in my new scrap-book. Then the Hamiltons are coming over & we plan to eat popcorn.

We visited the Hermitage, the home of Andrew Jackson. It is a beautiful place. We are staying tonight at the Travelers Motel in Jackson.
(From Travel Journal - Monday) We ate breakfast in our cabin. Herbert & I had gotten up early and we played 4 games of Pinochle. Then Eva & Monroe came over and we got breakfast. They had a toaster with them. After we had packed we continued on our journey. It was a beautiful sunshiny day. After a while we started to go to the Hermitage near Nashville, Tenn. After we had parked our car & bought our tickets, we went through the gate. There were tables there, where we ate our lunch, which we had bought earlier in the day at a Country Store. I was able to get a ruler, a centennial sunbonnet and some cards. The trip through the Hermitage and grounds was very interesting. We didn’t go through every building, as we were getting very tired. Then we drove to Jackson, Tenn. where we stayed at the Travelers Motel. We played Pinochle with Eva & Monroe after supper. We ate at a Bonanza Restaurant just across the road from our motel.

We drove 70 miles before we ate lunch at Friendship, Tenn. We are in Texas and are staying at the Paradise Restaurant. It was a very hot day.

We are in Texas and are staying at the Paradise Restaurant. We have very nice rooms. Eva & Monroe came over to play pinochle. Then we ate apples, which we had bought. I washed out quite a few pieces of clothing, when we got here. I wrote a letter to Ethel Haig, Marion Groff, Wayne and -----.

This has been a nice day. Herbert & Monroe changed around driving. We are lunch at a Stackey Restaurant & we are staying all night at Paradise Inn.
(From Travel Journal - Wednesday) This has been a nice sunshiny day. Monroe drove in forenoon. Then at 11 o’clock Herbert took and drove until lunchtime. We ate in a Stuckey Restaurant at Friendship. I bought a Texas Plate, and a few other souvenirs. Herbert took turns driving. In A. M. Herbert called Ronald Timmerman, who lives in Dallas, Texas, on the telephone. He was surprised to learn it was Herbert from Fort Plain. This evening we are staying at Desert Inn, Midland, Texas. We have nice rooms. We ate at the Restaurant here. Then after we got back to our room, I washed out some of my clothes.

We ate lunch at Desert Inn. We ate lunch at Rodeway Inn in El Paso. We went over to Juarez in Mexico. We are not at Trail Motel, Lordsburg.
(From Travel Journal - Thursday) We ate breakfast at the Desert Inn in Midland. We ate lunch at Rodway Inn in El Paso. We went over to Juarez in Mexico. We asked a boy to tell us where to find a curio shop. He was on a bicycle and he motioned for us to follow him. We thought it would only be a little ways, but he rode & rode. Finally he stopped at a Curio Shop. He went in with us and waited while we looked around. I bought a small plate and a ragged doll. When Herbert asked him what we owed him, he said $5.00. Herbert said he didn’t have that much as he had to get a traveler’s check cashed. Then he wanted money for washing the car. Herbert hadn’t asked him to wash it anyway. So we gave him $6.00, as that was all we had. We turned back our watches an hour. We crossed the Continental Divide. We are now at the Trail Motel, in Lordsburgh, New Mexico. We ate supper in the restaurant, connected with the Motel. Then we went to our rooms & played Pinochle. We ate breakfast at the Motel also.

We drove to Tucson & Herbert tried to call Karl Mosher on the phone, but they did not answer. So we came to Phoenix & went to call on a niece of Eve’s.
(From Travel Journal - Friday) It was a hot, sunshiny day, with a temperature of 108°. We stopped at Tuscon and Herbert tried to get Karl Mosher & his wife on the phone, but no-one answered. So we went on to Phoenix. We ate dinner in a motel there. Then we hunted up Eva’s niece. We had a nice visit with her. Then she recommended Hotel Six, and gave us directions to get here. We have 2 nice rooms. We told Eva & Monroe to take our car & go to have supper with her niece. I washed out our clothes. Then we went to the cafeteria to eat and found it had closed at 4 P. M. So we came back to our room. Herbert has just gone to a lunch place a few blocks from here to see if he can get something to eat to bring back to our hotel room. I hope he can, as I am getting hungry.

We ate dinner at Flagstaff. We are entering Kanab National Forest at 4:00 P. M. We got on the wrong road so we didn’t get here at “Sun & Sand” Motel until 6 P. M.
(From Travel Journal - Saturday) We ate dinner at Flagstaff at a nice restaurant. I bought some cards there. We entered Kanob National Forest at 4 P. M. We got on the wrong road and drove for miles in the opposite direction from which we should. So we didn’t reach the Sun-N-Sand Motel at Kanob, Utah until 6 P. M. We then drove to the Parry Lodge at Kanob. Herbert’s stomach was off and he didn’t eat much. I wrote up my books, before I went to bed. I got up at 5 o’clock.

After breakfast we went on a long trip through Zion Canyon. In the P. M. we went to Bryce Canyon in Utah. The scenery was beautiful.
(From Travel Journal - Sunday) We ate breakfast at ‘Peaches Trail Inn’ in Knabe. Then we started for a trip through Zion Canyon. This is where Herbert & I went with Floyd and Marion. We have just gone through a mile tunnel, completed in 1930. We drove and drove. It was beautiful scenery. We saw the Court of the Patriarcs. They are formed by nature and they have been named Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. We got back out of Zion by 10:30. We then arrived at the “Pink Cliffs Restaurant” at about noon. At 1:08 we started for Bryce Canyon in Utah. In the P. M. Monroe drove for a while & then Herbert drove some more. It was wonderful trip through Bryce Canyon. Monroe took a picture of Herbert & me with our backs towards the canyon. It started to rain harder & harder, so we thought we might as well continue going through the Dirae National Park. I only got out once to look at the view, which was magnificent. It was even better than the view, which we had seen from the first stopping point. As it kept raining we started on our trip through Utah. Monroe drove. We have 2 rooms at the Safari Motel. The others have gone for supper. I didn’t go, but I asked Herbert to bring me some ginger ale.

We had a good lunch at a restaurant in Ogden, Utah. Herbert drove in the forenon through the Caske Mts. Monroe took a picture of Bear Lake. It is large & a gorgeous cobalt blue.
(From Travel Journal - Monday) In the forenoon after breakfast, Monroe drove. They made a phone call to Charles Clockle, to get directions to his hom. We drove blocks and blocks, but finally arrived at his home. He is a brother of the man, who married one of Eva’s and Monroe’s daughters. His name is Charles Clocklee and we liked him and his wife very much. They own a beautiful house. They hire a gardner, who takes care of their lawn. They said next summer they plan to go to Rhode Island, and would stop to see us. I hope they do. We had our lunch at a good restaurant in Ogden, Utah. Herbert drove in the afternoon in the Cache Mts. We were on route 89.
We stopped and Monroe took a picture of Bear Lake. It was very large and the color was cobalt blue. I have never seen a more beautiful Lake any place. The lake is ½ in Idaho and ½ in Utah. We entered Idaho at 3:30P.M. We entered the Bridger National Forest at 4:45 in Wyoming. We drove a while and then we said we were hungry and didn’t want to go any further tonight. We got a motel reservation at ---. Herbert & I went & ate lunch, but Monroe & Eva went without any lunch.

We entered Targhee Nat. Park at 7:40 A. M. We ate at Copper Inn Lodge, at Jackson Wyoming. It is 9:41 and we went to Yellow Stone Nat. Park. We spent the day there. Tonight we are staying at a hotel in Cody, Wyoming.
(From Travel Journal - Tuesday) We entered Targhee National Park at 7:40 A.M. We ate breakfast at Copper Inn Lodge, Jackson, Wyoming. It is 9:41 A.M. and we started for Yellow Stone Park. We passed the Continental Divide, 7988 miles high, at 11:10A.M. We entered the Park about 11 o’clock. It was noon when we got in sight of Old Faithful. We waited quite a while to see the eruption. Then Monroe & Eva went to a cafeteria & ate lunch. They brought back some sandwiches, potato chips, and root beer. Herbert had driven in the A.M. So Monroe drove in P.M. He was very good getting around the Park. We saw some beautiful scenery and Monroe & Eva took a lot of pictures. It rained a little 2 or 3 times, but did not bother us. When we got out of Yellowstone Park, it was 7 P.M. We immediately started for Cody, Wyoming. We drove for 2 hrs & still had found no place to stay. Finally we tried a hotel on the Main St. The lady who owns it, was not there for a while. When she came, the men got rooms for $7.50 each. The cheapest place we had cited to us was $35 a couple. We could not stand that. I hope we can sleep well tonight. I am going to retire soon.

Ate breakfast in Cody, Wyoming. We left Thermopolis at 9:25. Got gas and had oil changed. Went to Penney store & variety store. Went through a bad thunder storm.

M. we drove a long way, and went through severe thunder storms. We ahd a hard time to find a motel. A man said we might better drive to the village of Greeley. He said even if we would have to drive quite a long way, he was almost sure it would be the only place where we could find a motel. We are staying at motel at Greeley, Colorado. We ate in a restaurant near here and had a good meal. It is now 8:30 P.M. and Eva & Monroe are coming over to play Pinochle.

(From Travel Journal - Thursday) At breakfast, a truck suddenly ran into the restaurant. They told us they were sorry but we would have to go to another restaurant. We wondered if we would find a place. We ate at the Pancake House & enjoyed our supper. Eva & Monroe came over to play Pinochle.

We drove a long way. I didn’t feel well and I was glad when we arrived at Jack’s & Ann’s. Jack took us to a motel. Then we went back to Jacks for supper. Played Yatzhe.
(From Travel Journal - Friday) We got started 6:45 in the morning. I don’t remember where we ate breakfast. In the forenoon I had an accident. I got such severe diarrhea, and I had to change my underclothes in the car. Then at the first place we could get off of the Thruway, we found a Stuckey Restaurant. There I got cleaned up. We went on and stopped to get some medicine for me. I took the medicine & drank Coco-Cola. I gradually felt a little better. We got maps of Oklahoma. We finally arrived at Stillwater. Herbert went into a store and got Ann on the telephone. She said Jack would soon be there. We were glad to see him. He drove our car and took us to their apartment. Jack’s father & mother had also just come. In a little while Ann asked if we were planning to stay at a motel and how much we would want to pay. So Jack took us to the El-Sol motel, where we reserved rooms for tonight and tomorrow night. Then we went back to Jack’s and Ann’s and stayed for supper. Then we played Yatzhe.

We stayed at the Hotel El-So in Oklahoma again tonight. It has been a beautiful day. I wrote a letter to Keith & Juanita, congratulating them on arrival of twins.
(From Travel Journal - Saturday) In the morning we ate at the hotel where we did the previous evening. Ann came down early and got our clothes to wash. She said when we got around, we should come on up then. We went about 10 o’clock. We paid Pinochle for a while. Then we had dinner. In the afternoon we went for a ride around the University of Oklahoma campus. Jack drove. Mr. & Mrs. Carter didn’t want to go. The Campus is huge and Jack took us all around. He is on vacation now, but college work will soon begin. Ann does not attend college. They can’t afford it. She works regularly at a dress shop, 5 days a week. She says she enjoys the work and is happy there. Of course it is a chance to use her knowledge of sewing, which she learned while she was in college.
Then we went home. Jack and Ann’s refrigerator wouldn’t work, so a man brought another one for them to use, while the other one is being repaired. It took her and her mother-in-law a long time to clean up the refrigerator. The rest of us played Pinochle until 10:30 P.M. and then went back to our hotel.

We ate breakfast at our hotel. Then we went up to Ann’s & Jack’s & stayed until lunch time. Then we went in 2 cars to the Baptist Church. Jack sang a solo. We took all to a restaurant.
(From Travel Journal - Sunday) We didn’t get up very early. Then we went to eat breakfast in our hotel, after we had finished packing our clothes & putting them in the car. Then we drove up to Jack’s & Ann’s. We stayed until 10:00 A.M. and then we went in 2 cars to the Baptist Church which Ann & Jack attend regularly. Jack sang a solo in church and he surely is a fine singer. Ann also sings in the choir.
After church Herbert & I had invited all eight of us to eat dinner at a restaurant, not far from Ann’s & Jack’s. We went in 2 cars. After dinner we went back to Ann’s & Jack’s for a little while, but then started start. We wanted to get part way to the place, where Henry Dunn and his wife live. Herbert tried to get them on the telephone, but no-one answered. He is going to try later.

We drove to a motel in McPherson and we ate breakfast there. Then we drove to Idana & stayed with Henry & Martha Dunn until about 2 o’clock. Then we drove to Sun Flower Hotel at Hiawatha, Kan.
(From Travel Journal - Monday) We drove to a motel in McPherson and we ate breakfast there. Herbert drove the car in A.M. We reached Ilana a little before 10 A.M. Herbert had called the Dunns on the phone that morning. We had a wonderful visit with them. Henry took the men over to the places where they have crops and cattle. When they got back we enjoyed a delicious chicken dinner. Then Martha took our pictures. Soon after that we started out again. Monroe drove in the P.M. We came to the Sun Flower Motel at Hiawatha, Kansas. It is a very nice motel, with beautiful flowers. We walked to a restaurant, quite nearby, for our supper. Then we came back & played Pinochle for a while. It has been a beautiful day. It was hot, but with the air conditioner, it was not bad.

We drove down to the place, where we ate yesterday. Then we drove thru Kansas, Mo. And Ill. Now we are staying tonight at the Intown Motel, Decatur, Ill.

We went way home on the 19th. We ate supper at Stewart’s in F. Plain.
(From Travel Journal - Thursday) We left Mansfield, Ohio, early in the morning. It was our 51st wedding anniversary. Monroe & Eva bought us a nice dinner. We were glad when we got as far as Marcellus. We only stopped long enough to go to the bathroom & get a glass of water. We went then to the place where we bought apples before. We got ½ bushel. When we got to Fort Plain, we went to Stewarts & had our supper and a banana split for dessert. Then we went home & read part of our mail. Herbert talked with Janice & Keith on the phone.

We attended St. J. Methodist Church. We came home to lunch & then went up to Black’s and Maiuras. We had a good visit.

We attended the Service at the Snell’s Bush Church. Rev. Gram preached the sermon. Then the people went outdoors and the Memorial Plaque was unveiled. Then we went to chicken barbecue at Cold Brook.

It was a dark day with showers. I rode along with Herbert when he went up to get a chair, which Mrs Rowe had canned & Herbert took her a chair, which he wented.

We went to a large auction at Newmans at Newport & bought a lot of nice things.

We attended church at St. Johnsville. Then we went up to Laura & Ennett Clause’s 40th wedding anniversary. It was a very rainy day.

Herbert worked on Marta’s chest. I worked on bed pads. Ms. Looman from Dolgeville came down & bought antiques.

We went up to Newman’s after 3 boxes of junk, which we had left there. Then we stopped at St. Johnsville & ate supper at the diner.

We went up to Ralph Groff’s & then over to Betty’s. We bought a cedar chest from her.

A woman & her daughter from Syracuse were here to find out about our “family tree.” The Berners were here also in P. M. We froze squash in A. M.
October 1, 1976
We were invited down to Berners for a chicken dinner. In the evening they went with us to a card party at Middleville.

We sent a lot of things to Betty’s. We went there to the auction in the evening. They had so many things that not many of ours was auctioned off.
October 3, 1976
We attended the St. J. Lutheran church. Crum Creek Evangelic, Starkville & St. J. went together. It was Communion. Pastor sat on a stool to give communion.
October 4, 1976
We did the washing. It was a beautiful day. Herbert mowed the lawns. I ironed quite a lot. The boys cleaned the barn tonight.

I finished the ironing. I went to L. C. W. meeting at Pastor Clarks in P. M. Herbert went there to Council meeting in the evening.

We didn’t go anywhere. We stayed home & worked. I made some bandages.

Herbert & I worked on lawn in A. M. In P. M. Herber had an appointment with Dr. Berg. I went to rummage sale at Universalist Church. Then we went to Berner’s.

We decided to not have grange meeting until after State Grange Session at Binghamton.

We went to auction at Newmans in the day and to the auction in the evening. It was a rainy day.

We did a large washing in A. M. I ironed some in P. M.

I finished the ironing and embroidered a lot of the picture I am making.

Catherine & Mabel Newman came after me & took me to a meeting of DAR Round Table at the Manor. It was a rainy day, but cleared up in P. M.

I went with C. Feldstein, Mabel Newman and Mrs. Miles to DAR meeting at Dibbles in Vernon. Herbert went with Berners to St. J. for dinner.

Herbert & I went to Middleburgh, where we thought the Spring Assembly of LCW would meet. The minister’s wife came out & said it was the previous day. We called on Boslets.

We took antiques down to Caters near Altamont. Then we went to Rensalear & found Karen’s place. We went to Carrols to eat dinner. Berners were with us.

We attended church at C. Creek. Then we went to Little Falls Hospital to see Charles Ingersoll. He had come to the hospital yesterday.

We attended the Service at Crum Creek church. Keith R. took care of the service, except Pastor Clark preached the sermon, sitting down. We ate at the Jack Frost.

We did a large washing. As it was very cold outdoors, we dried the clothes in the house. The Berners came up in P. M. to play Pinochle.

I attended DAR meeting at St. Johnsville. Mabel Newman gave a very good account of the D. A. R. Library in Wash., D. C. I ironed in A. M.

I had a hair appointment at 11. Then Herbert & I ate lunch at Stewart’s. We went then to Lull’s Funeral Parlor. Lulu Robinson had died on Tuesday.

We left for Binghamton about 2:30. We stopped at F. Plain & I bought a pr. of black kid gloves and stockings.

In the evening we had the annual banquet in the Ballroom, at Treadway Inn. The address was “1776 – British View.” After closing, the Comm. Chairman met for instrution.

We went to the High School, where we had a church service. Bert Morse took the part of pastor. It was a very inspiring service.

The Official Opening of 104th Session of N. Y. State Grange in Sixth degree at 9:00 am. N. Y. State Grange Master, Wendell Chamberlain gave the annual address.

We attended the Education Committee meeting in room 101. We went over lots of proposed legislation & decided what changes we should make in proposed education bills.

We went to C. Creek to church service. Then we drove up & called on Margaret & Charles. Libble Call died today.

I worked on making bed pads. Herbert went to Council meeting in evening & I went to call on Floyd & Alta Weaver.

We went to Manlins to attend Libbie Call’s Funeral. After going to the cemetery, we went to Fox’s for dinner. We went to Berner’s to play Pinochle in the evening.

The L. C. W. met here. Pastor led the lesson. Karen was very ill & was taken to the Hospital that evening.

It was a very snowy day. We did the washing & dried clothes in the house. I also did the ironing. Pat & Bill Eick called. Marta went down to Karen’s.

We went to Newman’s Auction. Then after we had come home & unloaded the furniture, we went to Methodist Church supper at St. J. It was very good.

We went to Evangelic Church & took communion. Then we stopped & got Alta & went over to see Philip & Iva Wendell. Phil seems much better than when we last saw him.

Herbert took a load of furniture over to Betty Dygerts on route 5. I worked on my needlepoint quite a lot. The Berners came up in PM and played Pinochle. Herbert popped corn in evening.

I went with Catherine Feldstein to Trinkhaus Manor for DAR meeting. It snowed a little at times but we had no trouble getting home.

It was Pomona Grange at Mayfield. We had dinner at 7:00 & then held the Pomona installation afterwards. Etta & Keith & Dean went with us.

In the P. M. we went to the “Spinning Wheel” and I bought some needlework pieces. We read in the paper that Dewitt Brown was dead. We planned to attend his funeral on Sunday.

We went to auction at Starkville. In the evening we went to a harvest supper at the V. F. W. rooms. Ida & George had invited us. From there we went to the Berners & played Pinochle.

We went to C. Creek to church. Then we drove over to Harold’s, but they were not home. Then we went down to Stewarts’ at F. Plain & had our supper.

We washed early in the morning. Then we cleaned up the house & got things ready for company the next day.

Monroe & Eva Hamilton came early in the P. M. We also invited the Berners up. We played 6-handed Pinochle. They all stayed for supper.

Herbert took some furniture up to Newmans for the auction on this Sat. I worked a lot on my needlepoint pillow.

I put covers on bedpads. Herbert went over to Betty’s to get his check. I tried to bring my ledger up to date. In the evening we went to Berner’s. They invited us for supper.

Madeliene came to clean. I worked quite a lot on my needlepoint chair cover.

We went to the auction at Newmans. We bought quite a few items & the things we had taken up there brought a good price.

We attended Evangelic Church at Crum Creek. We drove over to Harold’s to get a piece of wood, which Harold had cut out for Herbert.

Herbert put Janice’s chair back together. It looks very nice. She was glad to get it back home.

Joanne, Gordon & family arrived about 12 midnight. The traffic was very heavy. They said traffic on L. Island Parkway was the worst.

We watched the Thanksgiving Parade on T. V. Then we went down to Janice’s & Keith’s, where we had been invited. The dinner was wonderful.

In P. M. the Schaetzels went to C. Creek. In the evening we went to grange meeting. Gordon & Keith H. took care of the children. We draped charter in memory of Lulu Robinson.

We went down to Berners. Alyson & Jeffrey didn’t go. Joanne & Gordon enjoyed seeing the antiques. In the evening we went to Betty’s auction.

The Schaetzels started home about 9 A. M. Herbert & I attended church. Then we came home. He went to St. J. Church in the evening.

We attend grange meeting at Crum Creek. Joanne went with us & Gordon stayed with Keith Herbert & helped get the children ready for bed.

Herbert went down to F. Plain to buy groceries. In the evening we went to Open House at Vernum & Evelyn Caslers. It was their 35 wedding anniversary.

We attended church at Crum Creek. Then we went up to see Margaret & Charles. From there we went to Stewarts at Fort Plain for our supper.

We decided not to do the washing today. I wrote up the notices about grange meeting to be held this week at the hall. I worked on grange reports & writing cards.

Herbert and I did the washing and I did part of the ironing. I finished my petit point picture in red and white and blocked it. It was a rainy day.

I finished the ironing. Herbert worked on doing over our dining room chairs.

We went to St. Johnsville for dinner. Then we went to monthly meeting of the Senior Citizens at the Community House.

Grange meeting was called off. We went to Capece’s Funeral Parlor. Floyd Weaver looked very natural. Madeliene came to clean.

Herbert and I went to an auction at Newmans. We ate at a small restaurant near Herkimer.

We went to C. Creek to church. Then we went to Floyd Weaver’s funeral at the Capece Funeral Home. Then we went to Alta’s for lunch.

It was a very windy day and cold. Herbert went up to get what furniture we had left up at Newmans of Newport. I embroidered a lot.

We did the washing & I did part of the ironing. Herbert & I took Catherine Feldstein and Freida Crouse to Chickering’s Lounge in L. Falls for DAR party.

I finished the ironing. Then we went to Benefit Club for the Christmas dinner for Senior Citizens. Mr. Ferris led the chorus in several Christmas selections.

We started about 8 A. M. to go to Marcellus to visit the Hamiltons. We stayed all night. Monroe’s sister & husband came in evening & we played Pinochle.

We started home about 11:30 A. M. Eva was going to hairdressers after we left. The snow was quite heavy until we got ½ the way home. Then it didn’t snow.

Herbert and I went to the auction at Betty’s. We bought quite a lot of things.

We went to church. From there we went to Juanita’s; she had invited us & Keith Raymonds for dinner. In the evening we attended the Christmas entertainment at Crum Creek church.

We stayed home. I wrapped some of the Christmas presents. Herbert popped corn in the evening and we watched television.

We did the washing & I did part of the ironing. Herbert worked out in his workshop.

I finished the ironing. I embroidered on a pair of pillow cases. The men from Elmendorfs came after the blue chair to be upholstered.

We went to Fort Plain & finished our Christmas shopping. Then we took Ethel Haigs present up to her. Alma had gone to her sisters for over Christmas.

We went up to the St. Johnsville Lutheran Church to the service from 11-12 o’clock P. M. The Candle Light service was very beautiful & the church was full.
December 25, 1976
Christmas Day. We were invited down to Keith’s & Janice’s. There were 25 present there for dinner. We had a very enjoyable time.

We went to church at Crum Creek. Then we went to see Margaret & Charles, but we didn’t think they were home. So we called on Ira & Edith & Carol Timmerman.

We washed in the AM. In P. M. we went to F. Plain. I bought things to use in starting to quilt. I ironed quite a lot in P. M.

It was a cold day & we were glad to stay home. I finished the ironing. Herbert & I worked on a puzzle, which Dean gave us for Christmas.

I finished the ironing. In the P. M. Herbert & I put up a quilt. I quilted quite a lot on it. Herbert & I worked some on the puzzle Dean gave us.
