Herbert went to church and I stayed home. I didn’t feel well. We played some dominoes.
January 2, 1978
We went to see Dr. Sodi at St. Johnsville. He said I had the “flu” and he gave me a shot of penicillin & told me to go home to bed.
January 3, 1978
I didn’t feel much better.
January 4, 1978
I felt better. We took down the Christmas tree & other decorations. Keith R. went to Syracuse. In P. M. he stopped in for a few minutes.

Herbert worked on a bread box for Keith & Janice. I worked on my quilt. Keith R. plowed out our driveway.
January 21, 1978
Madeliene came to clean the house. I worked a lot on my quilt. I also pasted a lot of pictures & articles in my scrapbook.
January 22, 1978
We attended church at St. J. We stopped at home & got dinner. Then at 1 o’clock we went to the funeral parlor at Swartz’s. Lynn Cronkhite was 87. We went to Berners and played “Aggravation.”

I did the washing in A. M. I did the mending, which needed to be done.

I did the ironing in the A. M. In P. M. I worked on my quilt.

In the P. M., it started raining. It started leaking in the bay window. It was caused by the ice frozen in the gutters. It surely was a mess.

I got up 6 A. M. Herbert was busy emptying pans to catch water which was leaking in the bay window. It kept us both busy.

I went to answer the telephone in A. M. and slipped on the wet floor. Herbert picked me up. I hit my thigh on the end table & got a big black & blue spot.

It was a blustery day. We went to auction at Newmans. The weather was good after we got to Herkimer.

We went to church at Crum Creek. Then we went to call on Ira, Edith and Carol Timmerman. We had a very nice time.

We did the washing in A. M. I worked on recording the articles we had bought at the auction.

I did the ironing in A. M. We went to Berners in the P. M. We played Pinochle & had a good time. Ida was very lame as she had fallen down in their hall.

We went up to Veba’s & Marions after dinner. Alta went with us. We had a very good time.

Esther and Pete came over in the evening. We went to the Morgue at the Oneida Community Plant. We bought some things.

We went to Church Service at the Methodist Church in Vernon. Veba drove his car. After dinner we went home. We had had a very nice time.

We did the washing. Herbert went to F. Plain to buy groceries & go to the bank. It snowed all day. He watched “Little House on the Prairie” in the evening.

I ironed in A. M. We went to Berners late in P. M. She served us a very good chicken dinner.

In P. M. we went to Dolgeville. We stopped at McLaughlins store. I bought quite a few things. Then we called on Margaret and Charles.

We went downstreet. I went to Ben Franklin & bought a pair of pillowcases.

Herbert went to get a tire put on our car. I embroidered on a pillowcase and made 2 quilt blocks.
February 11, 1978
Herbert repaired a mirror for Edith Timmerman. I worked on embroidery and finished one pillowcase, which is crosstitch. Madeliene was here.

We went to church at Crum Creek. We went up to see Margaret & Charles after lunch.

We did the washing. Ira & Edith Timmerman & their daughter came after the mirror which Herbert has fixed. We had

I did the ironing. Herbert is working on fixing a large gold frame.

A very nice day. Herbert went to St. Johnsville to get some thread for me. He finally got it at the Big M in Palatine Bridge. We are watching the Boxing fights.

Herbert went after groceries. I worked on quilt blocks. We started working on puzzle which Wayne & Susan gave us for Christmas.

We worked quite a lot on the puzzle. I received a nice letter from Martha Dunn.

Ida & George Berner and Violetta came up in P. M. They stayed for supper. We played Pinochle.

We went to church at Crum Creek. Then we were invited down to Janice’s & Keith’s. Keith Herbert & his family were there also.

This was my 79th birthday. We did the washing. Alta invited us up there for supper. Then we played Scrabble.

I did the ironing. Herbert took me to DAR at Mrs. Feldsteins. Herbert went up to his brother Harold’s.

We went up to St. J. for our dinner. I was one, whose birthday is in Feb. I was given a pair of homemade bedroom crocheted slippers. Mr Paladori talked.

Herbert took me down to F. Plain to the hairdresser. From there we went to “Stewarts” for dinner. Then we went to Berners. She had a good dinner.

I worked on my embroidery. Herbert talked to Monroe Hamilton on the phone. He talked to Keith Raymond this evening on the telephone.

We went to Newman’s to an auction. We bought quite a few things.

We went to church. Herbert stopped on the way home to buy bread and milk. We watched Laurece Welk in the evening.

We didn’t do the washing. I worked on our record books. The Berners came in the P. M. We played Pinochle.

We took chairs over to Fredericks to have them caned. We stop at Big M & I bought some things to embroider. We went to church at St. J in the evening.

Herbert used the “Shop Smith” to clean up some boards to get them ready for a table top. I embroidered quite a lot. We ate popcorn in the evening.

We went to Berners in P. M. We played Pinochle & then stayed for supper. It was very cold when we came home.

Herbert went to St. Johnsville. Madeliene came to clean. It was a bright sunny day. I finished embroidering a small stand scarf.

We had Keith, Janice, Marta, Dean and Perny here for supper for Herbert’s birthday. We had a nice time.

We did the washing in forenoon. Herbert went to the bank in Fort Plain, to get our checks cashed.

I did the ironing in the forenoon. Herbert took me up to Mary Groffs for L. C. W. meeting. He went to church council meeting in evening.

We went up to the “Meals” at St. Johnsville. After eating dinner, Mrs. Dorothy Snell took charge of the meeting. There were almost 70 present.

We left 2:15 to go to visit Esther & Peter Maiura. Alta went with us. They knew we were coming.

We went to the Vernon Methodist church. Then Veba & Marion went back with us to Pete’s & Esther’s, we left 3:15 for home. We had had a very good time.

We went to church at Crum Creek. We ate dinner at Stewarts in Fort Plain. Keith H & family came down in evening. We enjoyed having them.

We did the washing. Then we started house cleaning the living room. Herbert painted wood work. I cleaned shelves and washed off books. I cleaned the bookcase also.

I did the ironing in the forenoon. In the P. M. I fell down the front stairs, feet first. I didn’t go to D. A. R. meeting as I was pretty shook up.

We went up to Senior Citizens at St. J. about 12:30. We stayed until about 3 0’clock. When we got home we cleaned some more in living room.

We went to Funeral Parlor, where Arthur Lencker was. I had my hair done. We went to Ida & George’s & played Pinochle.

Herbert worked on painting the woodwork hen in the living room. We went to Dolgeville to see Margaret & Charles. We stopped at Valmar Hotel & had supper.

We went to Merritt Cheney’s funeral at Dolgeville. Dottie Crouse was here for supper. Linda brought her & Herbert took her back to F. Plain.

We did the washing. Herbert put a few things on the line outdoors. I started packing things to take to Middleville, where we will rent a booth for the fair.

Herbert took me to the hairdresser’s. Then we ate at MacDonald’s Restaurant in F. Plain. Dean was here in evening to see the Waltons. Janice has just come after him.

We had a good time at Middleville. We sold over $92 worth of merchandise. We were glad to get home. We ate supper at Barne’s Restaurant in Salisb----.

Herbert went to dentist. In P. M. we were on the way to “Meals for Elderly” in Fort Plain. On the way Mr. Hack drove in the side of our car. I went on to get dinner & then I went to Berners.

We went to grange meeting at Crum Creek. Herbert took the part of master as Keith R. was not there. We voted to have a rummage sale on June 10th at grange hall.

We went to church at Crum Creek. The minister, who preached, was from the Clinton Home. Then we came home & ate lunch. We decided to go to Franklin. We called on Flora Hunt & Agnes & husband.

We did the washing and I did part of the ironing. Mrs. Hornbeck came up to see about getting a gift, but she didn’t find what she wanted.

We went early in morning to a place near Hessville, where we bought a few things. Then we went to A. DeVost’s & bought quite a few dishes. We then went to garage sale at Showerman’s.

Herbert went to F. Plain. He left the car there and Herman Prime let him take a car until ours is fixed. Herbert took me to L. C. W. at Crum Creek grange hall.

We went to Berners in the afternoon. We played Pinochle & then Ida served supper in the dining room. It was Violetta’s birthday.

We went to Mayfield Grange. We took sweet apples for lunch. They were eating supper when we got there. Mrs. Vosburgh put on a very good program.

We went to C. Creek to church. Pastor Butterer preached. Then we went to the hospital at L. Falls to see Clyde. Mr & Mrs Butterer came to stay all night.

We got up early (6 o’clock) & did the washing. Then we got breakfast ready. We ate a liesurly breakfast with the Butters. They left for home about 9 A. M.

Alta was here and helped get beans ready to can. We had 2 canners full. It was a nice day.

Herbert & I went to the class reunion (35th) of the Juniors. We had a very nice time.

We went to church at the Palatine Church. Rev. Clark preached the sermon. The Choir of the St. Johnsville church sang. Then Janice & Keith Herbert & I went to the Rollins picnic.

Herbert used his Shopsmith, after he had gone for lumber at Johnson’s Sawmill. Lumber cost $16 and 14 cents. I worked on my quilt. Alta was here after cucumbers.

We canned 7 qts of tomatoes.

We went to card party at Palatine Union Grange. I won second prizes.

We went to an auction at Bower’s place on the road to Starkville. We bought a few things. We bought a beautiful large pink vase.

Herbert and I went to a small church on a lake, beyond Old Forge. A girl played beautiful music on a harp. The Novaks were there. He used to teach in F. Plain.

We did the washing & I did the ironing also. It was a nice day.

It was a beautiful day. We went after Janice. Herbert & I worked in shop. I handed tacks to him, when he was putting the blue velvet on the shelves.

I went to Ruth Sheffields in PM. She had invited a lot of women. We visited & then she had the people go to buffet table. There was ice cream and cookies.

Berners asked us down, but we thought we couldn’t spare the time. Herbert worked getting shelves put up in the Red Shed.

We went to Service at the Snell Bush Church. Adrian Gray peached the sermon. David Timmerman sang 2 solos. After lunch we went to Harold’s & then to Juanitas.

We did the washing and I did most of the ironing. Ivan Gray & his assistant came to do some wiring. He put up the beautiful chandelier which we had bought at an auction.

We went to C. Creek to church. We went to Amsterdam to the Trinity Lutheran Church. Pastor sat near us. A group put on a good musical program.

In P. M. we went to Lull’s Funeral Parlor. Hilda Green’s and Harriet Foss’ bodies were there. They had been killed in an accident near Logan’s.

George & Ida Berner were here in the evening. We played Pinochle. It was a sunny day, but rather windy.

We went to the grange hall in the evening. As there was not enough for a regualer meeting, we planned for a rummage sale at the grange hall.

We spent the day at Newman’s Auction. We bought a lot of articles. We were very tired and went to bed early.

I went to L. C. W. meeting at the Grange hall. Herbert went up to Ivan Gray’s and over to Harolds.

We went to the F. Plain Methodist church and bought a nice lot of things. The black-top was put in driveway. Harod’s and Margaret were here in eveing.

We went to the card party at Newville Grange Hall. We had a nice time. Herbert won a box of chocolate mints for his prize.

We went to this auction at Newmans. Then we went to the chicken barbeque on the Medodist Church lawn. Dean & Keith stopped in here.

We played Pinochle in A. M. Then in P. M., they took us for a ride. Eva had to see a foot doctor. They took us for a ride & then out to supper.
October 11, 1978
We did the washing in A. M. Hilda & a neighbor came and bought something, which she wanted. Herbert & I went up to Juanitas, but she had to go after groceries.
October 12, 1978
I did the ironing in the A. M. Then we canned 7 qts. of applesauce. I worked some on marking items, which we had bought at auction at grange at Cortland.
October 13, 1978
Herbert & I cleaned out the clothespress upstairs. Two men were here to collect the premium on our insurance.
October 16, 1978
We attended church at Crum Creek. Then we went to L. Falls Hospital to call on the ill (C. Ingersoll, & Ethel Handy. We ate lunch at the hospital. We did the washing. It looked rainy, but the sun came out & dried the clothes.

I did the ironing. Herbert finished taking up the gladiola bulbs. I wrote a lot of business letters.

We went to the auction at Newmans. We bought a lot of nice things.

We went to church. Then we came home, because we thought Frank and Iris Ross might come to call.

We did the washing.

Mr. Bowers came and got rapid saw & 23 chairs. I finished the ironing. We sorted linens, which we had bought at Newmans.

Berners & Violette went with us to the supper at Starkville church. In the P. M., Hilda Mosher and Patricia Smith came. Ida bought a couple of articles.

Berners came up in P. M. Then Mr. & Mrs Wolanski came. We had a good visit. We watched television in evening.

Herbert went after groceries in A. M. I made bandages. Herbert went up to grange hall to help get the hall ready for Smorgasboard tomorrow.

We went to Smorgesburg supper at C. Creek Grange hall in the evening. It was for the benefit of the Lutheran Church. We took Berners.

We went to church at Crum Creek. Then we went to Little Falls. I stayed in the car, and Herbert visited Charles Ingersoll, Ethel Handy and Bill Byers.

We did the washing. Then Alta came & we went to visit Philip & Iva Wendell at Mechanicsville. It was a nice day.

I did the ironing. We went to Berners in evening. We took present for the bazaar at Episcopal Church.

Herbert went to F. Plain & bought lumber to fix the outdoor cellar door.

We went to a bazaar at the Episcopal Church in F. Plain in the A. M. Keith Herbert was here for dinner. Perry Streed put a new door on the cellar.

In the evening we went to an auction at Lassellsville. We bought quite a lot of things.

We went to church at Crum Creek. It was communion. Then we went up to see Veba & Marion. Harold Lundgren was there. Esther & Peter came over.

We did the washing after breakfast. It was a beautiful day & the clothes dried nicely. Herbert painted the new door on the outside cellar way.

The Berners were here in P. M. Violette was with them. We played Pinochle. It was a nice day.

We went to Pomona Grange meeting. Keith R. gave a report of the State Grange meeting, held at Albany.

Herbert & I went up to the grange hall in P. M. and got things ready for the sale. We were very tired, when night came.

We went to the C. Creek grange hall. There was a good attendance in A. M., but very few in P. M.

We went to C. Creek to church. We went to Little Falls to see Charles Ingersoll. He has had a stroke & is staying in a hospital up there.

We did the washing & dried the clothes in the house. In the evening Herbert went up to the grange hall. A man was to come after the things left from rummage sale.

We went to church. Then we came home. We slept a while & then played dominoes. In the evening we went to the Episcopal church at F. Plain.

We did the washing. Tom & Karen came up in P. M. and helped Herbert move furniture. They took down the bed in the parlor. Then we arrange the furniture.

Herbert rearrange the things in the shop.

Tom & Karen stopped in & helped take the day-bed & large sofa & rocking chair out into the red shed.

We cleaned the dining room. We took most of the things out in the shed & on the porch.

We cleaned up the house for company. In P. M. Gordon & Joanne came. Madeliene cleaned the house that A. M.

We went up to Harold Handy’s & up to Margaret’s in Dolgeville. We ate dinner at the Valmar. We stopped at Etta Allens so that Gordon & Joanne could see Etta. Then we went to Wayne’s garage to see him. We spent evening at Berners.

We went to church at Crum Creek. We went to Masonic Temple at St. Johnsville to Richard & Barbara Snells 25th wedding anniversary. Then we went to Lull’s Funeral Parlor where Mary Shell’s body was.

We did a very large washing. We didn’t hang anything outdoors. We didn’t go to L. C. W. at St. Johnsville because church because we didn’t want to go out in storm.

Herbert went to St. Johnsville after groceries. Herbert worked on cleaning silverware & I embroidered. The Keiths cut wood over on the old place.

We went down to Fort Plain. Herbert went into the bank & cashed my Christmas Club check of $150. We went to Ben Franklin store.

Herbert and I stayed home. He worked on his lathe. I embroidered and started my lace bedspread.

Herbert went to church with Keith and Janice & family. I had such a severe cold that I didn’t think it advisable for me to go outdoors.

We did the washing. Then Mr Blush came from Fort Plain & bought quite a few items from us.

I did the ironing. Mr. & Mrs. Leon Christman from Ephratah came over to get some geneology. I went up to Altas while Herbert went to council meeting.

Herbert took George & Ida to Medical Center. Then in P. M. we took Ida to L. Falls Hospital to have X-rays. We saw Ethel Handy.

I went to Fort Plain & had my hair washed and set. Then Herbert & I went to eat dinner at “Stewarts”. Then we came home. We watched the “Waltons”.

Herbert went to St. Johnsville to buy bolts to fix a chair. I embroidered and did needlework.

Ida asked us down to their house in the evening. We had a nice time. It snowed hard on the way home. The plow had gone through. Herbert went to auction at East Creek.

We played dominoes in A. M. We went to church at Crum Creek. The snow didn’t bother us.

We went to D. A. R. Christmas Party & dinner at the Keyzer House in St. Johnsville.

We went down & got Ida & George Berner & took them up to Little Falls to see a doctor. It was a stormy day. We went home with them & had lunch. Then we played Pinochle.

Herbert worked on repairing a chair.

We went to an auction at Newmans in Newport. In the evening we went to a smorgasboard supper at the Grange Hall.

It was a very stormy day. There was not church service at Crum Creek. Herbert & I played a few games of dominoes.

We did the washing. Keith brought up a chair to be fixed & a couple of slates made for in a window. We watched T. V. in the evening.

We went down to Janice’s & Keith’s for dinner. There were 25 present. We had a very good time. They had the tree put up in the parlor. It was very nice.
